Chapter 19
"I-I don't understand. It can't be Laito-kun. He wouldn't do something like that." Yui lied, her voice in false hysteria, feeling herself slip away the more she hid behind lies. Her old self may have reacted like this, but now she knew better. She knew Laito-kun better than that naive girl she used to be, and maybe even loved him more because of it. Acting this way had almost become a second nature to her, a good face to fool Veye. It wasn't that Yui had become evil or anything like that, she'd just came to terms that some things you had to do for love- including disposing of bodies and covering up murders in her case. And yes, she realized how ridiculous that sounded.
Veye looked to the blonde with sympathy, her eyebrows furrowing in pain. "Well, maybe it's not him, I mean... I just have to check. It looks like him though."
She could tell Veye was a kind person, going this far, putting herself on the line to find the truth, she had to be good. But, Yui was also good. Her love for Laito was pure and wonderful and in the name of love she had to protect him... right? "Can I see it again?" Her pink eyes had gotten hazy and dull, her emotions slipping away as she prepared herself for what may have to happen.
Hesitating briefly, the dark haired girl showed the cellphone again, the picture of Laito, surprised when the blonde had grabbed it out of her hands. Yui immediately smashed the phone against the sink, parts flying on the tile floor in different directions. It felt strange to act this way, but it had to be done. Surely she couldn't go on without Laito. She had to do -anything- to prevent that from happening and how far she was willing to go... It kind of scared her.
Tears welled up in her eyes, and Yui started to beg, honestly not wishing for Veye to get hurt. "Please, just stay out of this! It has nothing to do with you and only more pain will result. Go away and don't mention anything about that night. Laito didn't do anything wrong." Veye had to go away, not delve into this murder any further unless... she may have to... that thought... she couldn't quite complete it.
"I'm sorry but I can't do that." The other said with defiance, causing Yui's eyes to widen in fear- but not for her own safety. "I understand you love your boyfriend but the girl who got kidnapped and murdered was also a friend of mine. Look, all the police can do is check and if there's nothing to be found then... my bad. Do you really want to be with a guy who might have killed someone? I'm going to the cops about this... I'm sorry." Veye scanned her chance to escape, looking around Yui to the exit.
Except there -was- stuff to find, not only the murder but plenty of things, Kanato's bride collection, Reiji's potions, god knows what else. That couldn't happen! The shorter girl felt her breathing pick up in a panic, nothing but sheer impulse driving her now. She couldn't let her get away. She couldn't let this information get out. "Y-you don't know what you're talking about. I-I love Laito-kun unconditionally. I love him more than anyone and as long as he's mine, I don't care about such things!" She shouted, losing herself, her sense of right and wrong.
Before Veye could respond, obviously shocked by her confession, Yui grabbed her by her long dark hair, smashing the other's head hard against the sink, her limp body falling to the floor afterwards. The blonde's hands went over her mouth at the sight of what she'd just done, feeling herself return as she held back a scream. She backed away from the body, shaking with fear. That girl... she wasn't dead, was she? She hadn't killed someone! What was she supposed to do now? It wasn't like she had a choice!
Putting the girl in one of the stalls and locking it, the terrified blonde crawled out from underneath, her small body able to fit under the space. Looking at herself in the mirror now, she looked horrible, shaking and tear stained. She had to get a hold of herself unless someone would notice. It wasn't like she could just leave the body here though. What would Laito-kun do at a time like this? What had he done the first time he'd killed someone? "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." Yui repeated over and over.
"Nfu, wow I thought you were just a pathetic human but now you've even caught my interest."
Cordelia? Oddly the voice felt comforting to hear now, just another person's presence helping Yui from not going -completely- insane. And then-
"Bitch-chan, are you in here? I was waiting for you, you know." -His- voice called from the doorway, sing-song and cheerful. Of course lacking any morals, Laito had just walked into the girls bathroom. He was really here? His voice, his stunning looks, and the fact that she loved him had cheered the young girl up immensely.
Yui flung herself at the vampire, her hands gripping his blazer desperately. "Laito-kun! She was going to show the cops a picture of you carrying that dead girl. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to!" She panicked, the boy backing away from her as something caught his interest- the smell of another human girl.
"Bitch-chan, did you... kill someone? For me? Nfufu, you shouldn't have.~" Laito grinned happily, his sharp fangs sticking out from his lips. It was as if he'd just received a gift or something. But murder was something horrible! Yui still felt that way even after...
"I-I don't know what to do... I mean... What do we do with the body?" The school girl asked, putting her hand up to her chest in fear. At least he hadn't been judgmental of her... How could he be after what him and Ayato had done?
"Hmmm..." The red head leaned his ear up against the stall. "She's not quite dead, Bitch-chan." He examined, hearing the other's heart beat, pumping blood throughout her body. She was probably just knocked out.
"W-what?" It shocked her to hear that but also made her feel very happy. She hadn't killed anyone after all but... that still left them with a problem. It wasn't like they could just let the other girl go especially after what she knew.
"Unlock the door for me." Laito ordered, giving her a serious look. Of course Yui obliged, crawling under the door and unlocking it for him, Veye still unconscious inside. The vampire examined the raven haired girl, checking her pulse and then putting his hand up to his chin as he thought the situation over.
"What do we do, Laito-kun? Do you think if she wakes up you can convince her not to go to the police?"
"Hmm, let's take her out of here." He decided, Yui not questioning his judgement. It was calming her down having him here. Of course he knew what do in these situations and that very fact had a strange charm to it.
Somehow she ended up following him through the dark woods outside the school, Laito carrying Veye on his back. Yui was a bit jealous but she supposed it was the only way, it wasn't like she could lift the other girl. She didn't really understand what the vampire had planned and knowing him, it was probably something she didn't want to know. "Laito-kun, wait up!" The blonde shouted, his back getting further out of her sight as she started walking faster. These shoes really weren't meant for walking out here, now soaked by the wet moss she'd just walked over.
"Nfu, I wouldn't leave you behind, Bitch-chan." The boy turned back to grin at her, his kind expression causing her to smile back. She believed him though, not seeing much of a benefit of him stranding her out here- he wouldn't get any blood or sex anymore. Even though she hoped their relationship was more than those two things, the fact of gave comfort now.
Deciding on a spot, Laito laid the still unconscious Veye up against a tree, grinning at Yui as he began walking towards her. He looked rather handsome in the blue moonlight, highlighting his features. "Does it scare you to be out here, hm?" The vampire spread his arms, inviting her to come to him if she pleased. If Bitch-chan was scared, he wanted to comfort her the best he could.
It was a bit frightening here, and not only because they were in the middle of nowhere. Speaking of, she sure hoped Laito remembered the way they came, because she sure didn't. "A little." Yui accepted his gesture, walking into his embrace as she peered over at the other girl. "W-what do you plan to do with her?"
"Well we kill her of course, can't let word about me being a murderer get out. It's all thanks to you that I've found this amazing opportunity, Bitch-chan.~" Laito giggled, his hands meeting her waist. "You must love me oh so much?"
"Of course I do." Yui wrapped her arms around him, pressing her face up against his chest. She was really hoping they could get out of this without having to kill Veye but... maybe such a thing wasn't possible. Just as long as Laito did the killing, it was okay. The girl was unsure if she'd go insane or not if it came down to her having to do it. "I love you so much, Laito-kun."
Laito smiled upon hearing that. "I love you too, Bitch-chan." He reassured. "Nfu, I can't believe that girl thought you would take -her- side over me. She must be more naive than you."
"Yeah, she thought I didn't know anything about it." The blonde said quietly, wondering where to stand in all this. Killing people was wrong, it was a sin, she'd thought so all of her life but now why was she trying to convince herself that it was okay? Of course it was so she could keep loving him. It was either alter herself or alter Laito, and the second one was probably next to impossible. He had no morals, no regard for human life- except maybe and only maybe Yui's at this point.
Veye stirred as she regained consciousness, Laito peering away from his girlfriend as he heard the rustling leaves. "W-where am I?" The dark haired girl asked, still in a daze as she looked around the dark scenery of the forest, feeling over the large bruise on her forehead.
"Oh, so she's still alive after all, nfu." The vampire said with amusement, kneeling down beside her as the blonde kept her distance.
The raven haired girl's eyes widened in fear as she realized what was going on, looking to Yui quickly before back at the boy from the picture. She backed up, not making it far as her back met the tree trunk. "Y-you were in on it all along, Yui?"
Yui gulped upon being addressed, putting her hand up to her chest defensively. "I wasn't in on anything really... I just love Laito too much to intervene. I'm so sorry. I wish there was another way. I wish you would have listened to me before."
"Hmm, you heard Bitch-chan." The red head leaned closer towards Veye, smelling her neck as he smirked. "You should have minded your own damn business, nfu."
"How could I mind my business? How could I when you've killed one of my friends!?" She shouted with disgust.
At least she was spunky, he liked that in a victim. "You love your friend, huh?" Laito teased, his hand meeting her lower thigh, much to Veye's dismay. "Would you kill me to avenge her? You human's are so hypocritical. You'd get your hands dirty for your own justice but will judge someone as soon as they do the same thing. Bitch-chan loves me and she'd kill you in an instant if I told her to, nfu."
Yui clutched her hand tighter against her chest. In an instant? Laito-kun was surely wrong about that. She didn't want to kill anyone. Hopefully... he wasn't going to make her?
"Well she's sick in the head for ever loving someone like you." Veye frowned at the other girl, her look judgmental.
"Someone like me? She's hurting my feelings, Bitch-chan." The boy made a disappointed face, peering back to Yui briefly. Of course she hadn't actually hurt his feelings, as if he'd let something like that get to him. Perhaps he just wanted to set Bitch-chan off, to see if she were capable of killing this girl- and all for him.
"You don't deserve love." The other girl spat, spitting in his face.
"L-Laito-kun!" Yui shouted with worry, his back turned and his expression out of her sight. Did Veye have a death wish or something? Of course she didn't know Laito was a vampire but surely she should have known that wasn't a 'smart' thing to do.
To both of their surprise, he started laughing, wiping off his face with his sleeve. "Wow, I don't deserve love? Tell me more!" Laito said excitedly, his bright green eyes almost sparkling now.
Veye looked to Yui unsurely who looked just as shocked, then back to the boy. What... was he even saying? "Bastard! Son of bitch! Go die!" She shouted, getting up to make a run for it before he grabbed her leg, causing her to fall on her face hard against the ground.
"I'm not a bastard, my parents were married if you must know. Also my mother isn't a bitch... she's a prostitute, nfufu. Why do you keep looking to Bitch-chan? Do you think she's going to help you?" Laito teased, crawling over her body, lifting up her school skirt as he went to spoon her. "Wow, a thong? You have a dark side after all! What were you hoping for this skirt would blow up and then maybe..." His hand felt over her upper thighs and over her butt, Veye struggling to get free but it was futile. "Tonight is your lucky night.~"
"Laito, stop!" Yui begged as tears welled up in her eyes. "You said you were going to kill her but you never said any of this. You promised me you wouldn't do this again!"
"Hmm?" The red head raised an eyebrow. "I said I wouldn't have sex with other girls and I don't plan to. There's no penetration going on here, right?~" Laito grinned, leaning down against Veye's cheek, as if she were enjoying this too.
"Please... Yui... Don't stand for this..." The girl on the ground begged weakly, extending out her hand, her only hope being if Yui would help her. "I can see it in your eyes that you're good, you're just lonely and scared. Please, help me and I can help you too. I can be your friend, we can lock him up for good and you can continue on with your life. You can meet a nice boy that treats you right, what you deserve. Yui, listen to me."
Both sets of eyes peered at the blonde then. What Veye had said... now Yui almost felt bad for herself. She knew it was true, she didn't like what was going on here but... After she had tried to kill Veye earlier, did such a person really deserve a chance to go back to the good side? To be her friend? The hot tears started streaming down her face, unsure what else to do but cry for someone's help, wanting Laito to do what he'd never do- hold her and protect her.
Instead, her boyfriend threw her a knife from his pocket, the object landing by her feet. "Use it however you see fit. If you feel the way this girl says then... kill me, Bitch-chan." He challenged.
Pink eyes widened at such a command, her heart sinking in her chest. It hurt even more that she'd considered doing it too, wondering if she would be better off if he were dead. But she couldn't, there was still something stopping her, be that stubbornness or love itself. "I-I could never do that. If I killed you, that means I've given up on you. I don't know what I can say to get through to you. I don't know what I can say to stop you from doing horrible things but... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I can't be strong enough to protect you." The blonde sobbed, more tears running down her face as she bent down to pick up the knife, her small hands shaking as she gripped onto it. "I-I lost sight of what I should have done. I thought if only I became more like you then we could be happy but I can't be happy like that."
"Bitch-chan?" Laito asked, his eyes widening in shock and maybe even touched by her words, him and Veye both staring at her. Both wondered where the girl was going with this, what sort of conclusion she'd come to- who she was going to kill.
Yui continued then, her voice shaken and emotion filled. "Thinking that way was weak and I know I'm a weak person but... I'm also stubborn. I want to help you and I wont stop no matter how many others get hurt. I love you. I love you so much it hurts every second, worrying about you, wondering what else you'll do to hurt me and I'm sure it will happen again. But even so... seeing that person you used to be, seeing you love someone so much and then getting hurt- such a person has to be good. Please, don't dirty your hands anymore, let me kill her for you and then end this horrible mess." She gripped the knife tighter, trying to prepare herself for what she was about to do.
As Veye tried to wriggle free, Laito held her as still as possible. "I'm so sorry." The blonde said quietly, the knife ever so close to her throat. Now that it came down to it, seeing the other's face in fear, her eyes begging her not to do it, Yui wasn't sure she could do it after all. But... she said to Laito... She said.
"Bitch-chan, let me do it, okay?" Laito offered, seeing her current predicament, his eyes almost sympathetic towards her. It would be a lot easier for him to add to his never ending kill list, while Yui's was still a clear slate. And so she gave him the knife, the boy slitting the restrained girl's throat with no mercy. The blonde had to look away, too horrified to watch, however she could still hear her choking on her own blood, the sounds eventually dying down as her life ended.
Once the knife returned to his pocket, Yui flung herself at the vampire, wrapping her arms around him tightly. As she began to cry from guilt, her selfish side was glad this was over, that he could hold her again and wasn't being taken away. "Laito-kun!"
Perhaps he didn't know the words to say at this moment, but his lips said everything as he leaned down to kiss her passionately, Yui shocked at first before returning it. Laito's weight got heavier against her as he pushed the girl on the ground, her back meeting a mess of leaves. She clutched onto him as they rolled over a couple of times, their lips still pressed together all the way. Yui looked up at him from below as the kiss broke, her tears now falling down the side of her face. "I-I don't want to be a murderer, Laito-kun. I-I feel so horrible. How do you do it?"
His emerald eyes widened in shock, Laito then tilting his head as he responded. "Who says murder is wrong, huh? Is it your god? I don't see the point in hiding your desires for a being that doesn't even exist. Death is always happening. If you want to kill someone then... whose to say that's bad?"
"But I never wanted to kill anyone. I just wanted to protect you." Yui glanced away from his piercing look, still feeling ashamed.
"Nfu, well I'm still here, aren't I?" The vampire grinned, leaning down to give her a playful kiss.
"Yeah." She smiled lightly, his warm, tender look lifting her spirits.
"I love you, Bitch-chan." Laito admitted.
"I love you too. Always."
To be continued...
