Day 6: "Romance"

Pink dress?

Hmmm…

White T-shirt and blue jeans?

Hmmmmmm….

Pink plaid shirt?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm…!

Aagh! Why can't I do this? There are 3 different clothes in different fashion on my blue covered bed and I can't choose which one would be the best outfit just to go with Katsuragi! I've spent an hour and a half from 4 in the morning and I am still not able to choose. I could not decide which clothes I'd wear because that Katsuragi hadn't told me where he's going take me to. What was he thinking? Women had a lot of preparations before she goes on a date because we would always try our best to look good in public! That's how normal woman are! What if I decided on taking this dress but it turned out that he only asked me to watch a movie? And what if I wear this very casual clothes but it turned out that he'd take me out to a romantic dinner or something? We—well, it's too fast for us to have a romantic dinner. I mean we aren't even dating, but just in case!

"Uhmmm… Just as I thought, this reveals too much skin," I put away the pink dress away after I wore it in front of the mirror.

Come to think of it. Why did I agree upon his request anyway? As far as I could remember, we were not that close and he was the least person I thought would ask me to a date. I mean, that guy only talked to his sister, Ayumi, his game console...

Oh, and with me I guess.

Yeah, now that I mentioned it… We couldn't be referred as 'not close' at all. He always called me by my first name although I had already lost count of telling him over and over not to call me that way; I had helped him doing his mother's shopping and had met her in person at her house, chattering a bit. Those were activities 'normal' friends wouldn't do. Usually, one had had to become close enough to call their friends with first name or to take a different-gender-friend to his/her house. So what were we? After doing all those things yesterday, I could assume that Katsuragi and I were undeniably not 'just' friends, yet we were not so close either...

How confusing.

"Hmm, I guess I will wear this shirt..." I finally decided to choose the pink plaid shirt and put the other clothes back to the drawer.

This pink plaid shirt was stylish. The color matched autumn's fashion mode I had just seen in one of my magazines. I shouldn't think about him taking me to a romantic dinner 'coz it's just impossible! This shirt was just good enough for him.

We would meet at the fountain in the center of Maijima park at 9 AM. It's still an hour away and the location was not far from my house. So there's no reason to go early. It's not like I'm hyped about going out with that shady guy.

"... You can use that as a conversation later. For example, asking him for advice."
"Oi. Are you listening?"

This feeling... It's [that dream]!

"Sheesh. I'll run through the explanation one more time. Listen carefully this time."

As usual, it's very dark so I can't tell who I am speaking with but I can still see that both of us brought an umbrella.

"Why are you talking about TV and America!? None of that matters!"

And suddenly, two students walked past us. [That person] and I frantically hid ourselves with our umbrellas.

"You are confessing your love tomorrow, after school. Got it?"

"... Yeah..."

... Ah!

I woke up... Just when the dream appeared again, I woke up thus end the dream. Ugh... Why did it have to be ended so quickly? My heart was filled with happiness every time I dreamt it and my body was longing for it. I wanted to dream for a longer duration, but I couldn't seem to keep it.

More importantly, this time I got a different pattern of [that dream]. Usually, [that person] only told me about how I had a sharp mouth or not to compare myself to the others but just now, [that person] lectured me about… the preparation for a love confession with a very weird-yet-detailed way to do. Why was he explaining about all of that? Was this all about the confession? Maybe the confession failed and I got depressed so [That person] comforted me afterwards?

If that was how it was… then I'd be a little bit disappointed. It should be more beautiful than that!

"You finally awake. Here, have a drink."

"Ah. Thanks," I gulped the water down.

Eh?

"Cough! Cough! KA—katsuragi? Why are you here!? Didn't we suppose to meet at the park at 10?"

"Well, I've been waiting for 1 hour."

"2 hours? But I only slept for, like, 3 minutes!"

"3 minutes? You kidding me? Look at the time, Chihiro!" Katsuragi told me. I did so and I was very shocked to see that it was already 11.05!

"Did mother allowed you to come to my room?" I stared dagger at Katsuragi who was sitting on my bed.

"You are the only one here in your house," said Katsuragi casually.

"Ughhh then GET OUT OF MY ROOM, PERVERTED DWEEB!"

HE'S TERRIBLE! Barging into a girl's room like that without permission! I hadn't changed into my shirt! It's really embarrassing to get seen by a man just in my T-shirt like this! And where did Mom go? Ah, that's right. Yesterday she told me that she would also go out with my aunt at 10 so she gave me the spare key of my house just in case I came earlier than her.

But anyway, how could I slept for that long? The dream only lasted for 3 or 5 minutes!

I quickly changed into my plaid shirt and then went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and washed my face. After I was ready, I walked to the living room where Katsuragi was waiting for me. It seemed like I was right to choose this plaid shirt. Now that I had my attention on him, I could see that he only wore a casual white shirt and a pair of slim-fit black jeans pants.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, Katsuragi. I didn't know that I had slept for that long," I greeted.

"That's alright," he rose from the sofa.

"So where are we going?"

"Shopping."

"Eh? Do you have something you want to… UGH. You are going to buy games again aren't you!?" I stared consciously sharp at him.

"Well, that's the only thing I could think of. When someone goes on a date, they usually go shopping together right?" he replied.

UGH. I can't believe I have to tell him this, "But they are so not looking for games! Couple who goes shopping together usually buys clothes for the girlfriend or…"

"So you want us to act like a couple?"

"Wha— No! I—It's not like that!" I abruptly answered, "Agh, whatever. Let's just go watch a movie."

"I was about to take you there."

I could feel my blood rushing to my head back there. His question was just too lethal. Even he asked it in a deadpan voice, it was still embarrassing to being asked such question at. If he asked it with goofy smile, pretending it was a joke, it was still make sense!

After that, we finally departed. I could see our shadows on the floor merged with the darkness as I closed my house's door.

We were now on the street, walking to the cinema. The city was decorated by many of deep red maple trees, giving it red color as if it was on fire. Very beautiful. However, those trees will be bald by late autumn. Too bad, huh?

Since it was weekend, the city's streets were very crowded; I feel like we had passed countless different people from every age. There were families who hung out together, and there were also a group of friend spending their weekend together. I also hung out a lot with Ayumi and Miyako back in Junior High years, watching movies and stuffs.

Anyways, walking with this guy was really awkward. He didn't speak a word. Was he nervous walking with me? But his expression was as dead as usual. Well, I could never imagine him being shy and nervous though.

Sheesh. Was he even serious about this date?

"Hey, Katsuragi," I called him, trying to get out of this queer atmosphere.

"What?"

"The weather looks rather nice wasn't it?" asked I, smiling.

"Yeah. It's a really clear sky," he replied, turning his head to me. "It's perfect for walking outside, isn't it Chihiro?"

"Ah.. Yes. It is."

I must be blushing there. He had just emitted a really soft smile I had never seen from him.
T-this is embarrassing, but...
... I am really happy and excited to spend this day with him.

"Look, look, Katsuragi!" I pointed at a bus with a certain advertisement on its body, "Kanon-chan will perform at Tokyo-TV tonight at 7! I must watch her!"

"You sounded just like Elsie," he commented.

"Ahaha! I can easily imagine Elly wearing a yellow ribbon and goofily dance in front of your TV tonight! Hahaha!"

"Yes, she does that every time she watches that girl's performance on air. It is actually bugging me so much because she always turns the volume to the MAX."

"Hahaha~ Typical Elly!"

We talked much after that and without us realized it; we were already at the cinema.

"So which movie do you want to watch, Chihiro?"

"Hmm... There are only horror movies, huh? Well, let's just watch 'Luscious: B Side' then?" I suggested.

"Alright."

I thought we were going to watch a romantic movie since this was a date. But it's alright because I'm carving to watch the sequel of 'Luscious'. Well, I guess heartwarming or romance movies didn't fit him anyway.

We lined up to buy the ticket. The queue was not very long although it's a weekend. Now, we were already in front of the ticket seller.

"Hi, how can I help you?" The clerk asked.

"I'd like to buy two students tickets for 'Luscious: B Side'"

"Ok. For what time?"

"13.15"

I'm glad Katsuragi ordered the 13.15 ticket and not the 11.10 ticket. It's already 11.35 and I wouldn't want to miss 25 minutes of the movie. I'd rather watch for an hour than losing 25 minutes.

"I'm sorry. That show is sold out. We don't have any seats available for that show."

Awhh what a let down. Luscious: B Side was a blockbuster movie and everyone was talking about it on twitter. I was really looking forward to it...

"What about other times?" Katsuragi asked again.

"Let met check. Hmm.. We do have 5 seats available at either 15.15 or 17.10."

"Then, we'd buy two tickets at 15.15."

"Sure. Students or adults?"

"Students"

"May I see your student IDs?"

At this cinema, there's always a 15 percent price cut for students. I took out my student ID from my wallet and gave it to Katsuragi for the clerk checked them. After we paid the ticket, we decided to have lunch.

We went outside to the crowded street again to find a place to eat. It's still in the afternoon, so I guess he won't asked me to a romantic dinner. Glad I only wore these plaid shirt.

This time, Katsuragi asked first, "Where do you want to eat, Chihiro?"

"I'm okay with anything ~"

"Ok. Let's go there then," he pointed at a family restaurant. I nodded and we walked there.

I've visited this restaurant numerous times with my friends or my family. Just like any other family restaurant, the place was fairly spacious. It had large windows, so we could sit glanced at the streetscape outside. There were plentiful first-rate western or japanese food and drinks in a cozy atmosphere. It's luxury yet relaxing there.

"Welcome to Jenny's!" The waitress greeted us as Katsuragi and I arrived. "Table for two?"

"Yes," he answered.

"Alright. This way please," she said, leading us to the table.

Soon as Katsuragi and I sit on the sofa facing each other, the waitress gave us the menu. I ordered a fried chicken with rice while Katsuragi ordered a spaghetti.

As we waited for our food, I broke the ice. "Hey, did you watch TV last night? There's this new drama show at channel 8 called 'A Certain Romance'. It's really interesting!"

"No. I never watched TV," he simply answered.

"Huhh? Not even for news or weather report?"

"I've told you that every monitors in my house are for gaming only."

"Huh? When? When did you tell me?" I frantically asked.

"Sometime before summer break."

Hmm? Had he and I really talk about such matter around that time? For whatever reason, my memories on spring this year was rather hazy. But I understood that before I decided to form a band with Ayumi, Elly, Miyako, and Yui, I don't have any club activities and all I did was reading magazines and... Uhhh...

Co-Confessing to hot guys!?

Wait. Wait. Why am I remembering all this now? Well thanks to that, I could get a grasp of what that small fragment of my unusual dream I had earlier today was about: That person helped me confessing to my target. Then, the other scene where we were punctured by the rain, shouting at each other, happened after that.

"Chihiro. Your food is getting cold."

"Ah! Sorry!"

To be dazing off during your date... What a shame, myself.

"What are you spacing out for anyway?" Asked Katsuragi.

"It's none of your concern!"

"Well, you watch romance shows a lot don't you? You should have known that you must not went blank in front of your date, Chihiro," he remarked.

"It doesn't matter! Let's dig in!" I grabbed the chopsticks and start picking the meal.

We finally started our lunch. Hmmm it's really delicious. It really replenish my hunger since I hadn't eaten breakfast this morning because I took too much time just to choose my outfit. For some reason, time went very slow here. Maybe because I enjoyed talking with him.

We had finished eating, but it was still 12.50. Where should we wait until 15.10? We could just wait here but it's boring...

Ah, I know!

"Katsuragi, let's go to the game center over there to kill some time!" I pointed at the game center.

"Sure."

There was a game center in the cinema. It was really close to the studio so we could monitor whether if the gate had been opened or yet. Katsuragi liked games, so I bet he would love to go there, a place where we could play games together, not a place where he bought games and left me alone in the corner.

We played many games: racing, shooting game, basketball, baseball, etc. They were all boring because Katsuragi always managed to win. As expected from that game maniac... But! There's this one game we hadn't tried.

"Hockey?"

"Yeah. You may have beaten me in all those games but you won't get me this time!" I clenched my fist towards him.

I walked to the side of the blue-colored table and he did so too, at the other end.

"Challenging a [god], huh? How foolish…" he'd just said such an arrogant words as he fixed his glasses' position.

"We'll see about that!"

I had confidence in playing this table hockey. I used to play this thing with Ayumi when we were still Junior High students and I beat her hundred times. I won't show you mercy even if you begged for it, Katsuragi!

...

Result: Chihiro 0 - Keima 3.

Ugh.

I LOST! We've played for three rounds and I couldn't win even for once! How could someone play that well?! I thought all he did was playing games in the console without moving his body but his thumbs! He shouldn't be able to move like a pro! No, he shouldn't able to move at all!

"..."

What's more annoying was he didn't seem so excited after he beat me up like that. He only fixed his glasses' position without even looking at me. Annoying!

"One more match!"

"It's 15.00 already. Let's go back to the cinema," he claimed after he checked his watch.

I also checked my phone and he was right. The minute had just changed from 00 into 01.

"Oh, you are right!"

Up until now, Katsuragi seemed to be a pretty nice guy to hang out with. He was responsible, humble, and gentle, unlike how he was at school. Well, his appearance in my room this morning was rather shocking and irritating but other than that, he was nice and I couldn't helped but to get more and more interested with him. Why couldn't he act like this at school too instead of being a weird otaku? People might like him!

We were now back at the cinema. Before we went to the studio, I asked him, "Katsuragi, would you like to order some popcorn?"

"No, thanks. I'm all stuffed," he answered quickly.

"Is that so? Then I'll just go buy one for me."

It was already crowded in front of the studio's gate so Katsuragi, who didn't want to buy popcorn, waited on the very last queue while I bought them. It took a while until I came back from the snack booth and he was still there waiting for his ticket to be checked. Seemed like I arrived just in time, huh? I walked past the line to where Katsuragi stood. I heard people behind me muttering something. I guess they were annoyed because I skipped them.

"Look, look… That couple was really romantic!"

"Yeah that girl bought his popcorn while the boy waited at the line for her…"

I had just realized that this queue was filled by so many couples and they also thought that Katsuragi and I was a fellow couple. Ugh, this somehow felt embarrassing… I could feel my cheeks burn and I also found HIM blushing as well. Somehow, deep inside of me, I felt happy. The thoughts of Katsuragi and I became a couple was…

… Not so bad.

We sit at the F row, which was my favorite seat to watch shows at a cinema. However, our seats were right next to the wall. Did he intend to do something with me in this dark place!? W—what was he thinking! That pervert!

"Oi, Katsuragi… Doesn't our seats a little too far from the middle? It would be hard for us to walk out from this row after the movie finished," I reasoned out, hiding my other question.

"It's not like I want to sit here either! These seats are the only available seats!" answered him in an unusual angry tone.

"Ah, is that so? T—then it's okay…" I stared at him. "But don't even think you could do anything to me! It's sickening!"

He only left out a funny grumble.

"Anyways, the movie had started! Let's be quiet!"

"You're the one who's talking here!"

"Shhh! Stop with the tsukkomi!" I whispered.

The show had finally finished showing the trailers of upcoming movies and started to play Luscious: Part B. I was really excited!

...

It's been 40 minutes now and just like what the reviewers said, this movie was very scary. I shut my eyes occasionally and even screamed a little. What made this movie scarier than any other movies was the shocking sound effects. Whenever there's a scream, the volume was always played at max level. The pitch-dark atmosphere had also made my left hand shaking when I grabbed my popcorn.

Kyaaa!

I screamed when the scene was not scary. It's because I… I just felt something in the bag! It… it is…! …a hand!

… Katsuragi's?

"... grr"

"KYAAAA!"

The ghost suddenly APPEARED right on the screen! It was really scary that even I also heard other watchers' screams! I'm glad that everyone was screaming too. It would be very embarrassing if I was the only one who screamed.

"Ah! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" I backed off. I had just squeezed his right hand tightly.

"Don't touch me!" He also backed off.

"It's not like I want to touch you! Also, why didn't you buy popcorn in the first place?"

The scene was calm again as it had just passed the scary parts. Only conversations of the main characters with the supernatural advisor were shown on the screen now.

"Chihiro, are you scared?" he asked.

"Are you mocking me? There's no way I would get scared just because of a movie!"

"You had just screamed."

"I was just shocked, you see! AHHH!"

I closed my eyes with my hands. Ugh… Just after I denied being scared! Why did the scene had to suddenly get scary again at such time?! It's a good thing that it's a pitch black studio so I could hide my embarrassed face from him!

An hour later, the credit was shown on the screen, marking the end of this ultra-scary movie. In the end, it's a happy ending for the main character but I guess I would still be having nightmare tonight.

Katsuragi and I were still on our seats to wait until that crowd shrink at the exit door.

"Ah.. It's finally ended… I was wondering when it will finished. The movie was really scary, wasn't it? The director is a genius, isn't he? The prequel is also very scary! Have you watch it Katsuragi?"

"…" he kept staring at the screen without answering my question. This guy was really unpredictable. At the street, at the restaurant or the game center, we could chat a lot but what had happened to him now? Was he hungry?

"Katsuragi, you hungry?" I ask.

"No."

"Is that so? You looked more gloomy than usual, you know..." said I, before I smirked and teased him, "It couldn't be that you are still afraid of the movie? Want me to accompany you to the toilet? Fufufu~"

"What are you talking about? It's just a movie. It won't scare me off and..."
"A-Aren't you the one who was still scared?" He rose OUR hand.

"EEH?"

I had unconsciously grabbed his left hand! Aaah! That was humiliating!

"S-So what are we going to do now?" I said as I let go of his hand for good.

". . ."

"Hey look Katsuragi! There's an after-credit scene. Ooh! Good thing we decided to stay a bit longer!"

Minutes after that, I screamed again because it turned out to be a very shocking scene where the demon suddenly appeared again. The film director is really a genius. Dang it.

Finally, we went home. While he walked me home, we were talking about the movie; how scary it was, how crowded the studio was due-to the audiences' screaming etc. Ahh it was such a good day…

We finally arrived in front of my home. The sky was still orange but we could see a slight of the white moon. Nearby trees' twigs were blown by the freezing autumn breeze, but I didn't feel cold. I could feel my own heartbeat, pounding my chest like a drum. I guess this excitement was the one which prevented me from cold.

"So we are here! Aaah what a long day!" I stretched my back.

"Yeah."

"…"

"…"

There was an awkward silent between us. Knowing it's the heavy-gamer Katsuragi, I was expecting him to leave as soon as we bid farewell but he stared deep into my eyes instead. I must be blushing bad right now.

"Thank you for today Katsuragi, I had fun."

"Yeah. Me too."

"W—well, you are still annoying at times but…"

"Chihiro," he leaned and stared at me.

"W-what? You creep me out," I backed off a bit.

His expression became softer before he asked me, "Would you like to go with me again some other time?"

What an unexpected question coming from such a man who always living in the world of gaming. So I answered, "… Yes! I'd love to!"

"See you then," he replied my smile.

My mother was already home. She greeted back when I walked into the house. I gave her the spare key and I went straight to my bedroom, jumped onto my bed.

"I've just dated Katsuragi…"

What's this feeling? It made me really happy that I had forgotten all those scariness in the movie we watched earlier. I even rolled over on my bed like crazy. What should I do? I thought Ayumi and him were close yet I... Well, looking at her V-sign yesterday should be ensuring enough to tell that they are only friends, right?

Uh, WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT? I talked as if I fell for Katsuragi!

"CHIHIRO! What's that noise!?"

"... Sorry, Mom," I didn't realize that I had just fallen from my bed after rolling over and over... I didn't realize I was smacking the floor either.

"A—Ah. I must take a bath."

I opened the bathroom's door, and then took a look at the mirror. Goodness. My face expressed an extreme happiness! My smile was very wide; almost as wide as that one of a Joker's. Did my face look like this all day today?

"Ahhh! How embarrassing! I looked stupid!"

"No. You didn't look like that today. Don't worry."

I suddenly heard someone else's voice. I looked around but couldn't find anyone. However, when I looked back at the mirror I met someone I never met before. She looked EXACTLY like me but with bright green hair instead of my dark brown.

From that moment on, my normal days in my mainstream life is over.
