...

We stopped a few miles outside Lincoln and all looked at each other, not really knowing what to say.

"Damn good riding with ya Chavez," Billy said holding his hand out.

"Good luck Chivato," Chavez said grasping Billy's hand. He leant in to kiss my cheek. "Stay strong Gatito."

Not knowing if I would ever see him again I planted a kiss on his cheek too. "Goodbye Chavez," I said pulling away to wipe fresh tears from my eyes.

Chavez shook hands with Doc and turned his horse to the West and disappeared.

"Where you headed Doc?" Billy asked turning to face him.

Doc looked back at Yen before answering. "Silver City first then onto New York."

Billy nodded and held out his hand. "Damn good riding with you too."

Doc nodded and turned to me. "Take care of yourself Jackie," he said.

"I sure will," I replied brushing a tear from my cheek. "Take care of yourself too Doc." I gave a weak smile before placing a light kiss on his cheek.

Doc raised his hand in farewell and turned his horse around. He disappeared into the scrub and left Billy and I alone.

"Do you think we'll see them again?" I asked circling my arms around Billy's waist.

"I think so mi amor," he replied squeezing my hand. "So you remember that condition you set about surviving the war before starting a family, well what do say to trying to make a baby now?" I could hear the smile in Billy's voice.

I smiled at his back. "We need somewhere safe to stay first," I replied.

"I have just the place in mind," he laughed. "Hold tight cause you're in for the ride of your life."
