Unbreakable

Web definition: impossible to break especially under ordinary usage;

My definition: inability to break, even when put under pressure;

If little Danielle's parents had to chose one word to describe their now eleven year old daughter, that would be unbreakable. Why? Simply because no matter how many times she came home with scraped or bruised knees, elbows, and various other body parts, she would still go out the next day, only to earn more. She wore her title proudly, and did all that was in her power to live up to it, in body and mind. When Deni made up her mind about something, even if she at some point realized that she's in fact wrong, she will stick to her opinion until she either cannot turn a blind eye to the truth anymore, or until she is ordered by someone of higher authority (i.e. her mother) to drop it. But on the safety of the playground, or the tunnels, there is no such person, and children are hardly rational enough to be sensible, so there is no stopping the currently youngest Brillo child when she starts speaking her mind. And since her new friend, the self-proclaimed army general Byakuran, is a fast learner, he has discovered that simply letting the smaller girl rant, with the occasional nod, smile or frown, is the easiest way to avoid a verbal conflict.

Unfortunately, even though he is intelligent, and to a degree, cunning for his age, Byakuran still occasionally slips up and puts his foot in his mouth. One such time happened when Deni came to the tunnel entrance late with a big sunny smile on her face and a book in her small hands. Seeing as she was a young and aspiring nerd, that was not so strange. The girl was always taking books from her parent's library and trying (and mostly failing) to read them. But when she proudly declared that she has found proof that aliens exist, Byakuran, who knew from a reliable source (his father) that they in fact do not, took great offence to the implication that she knew better.

"I'm sure you just read it wrong." Ever the diplomat, the white haired child offered her a truce of sorts.

"I did not! I know how to read just fine!" But, unfortunately for him, it was misunderstood for mocking.

Byakuran sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"Listen; there is no way that aliens exist. If they did, don't you think more people would have seen them?"

"Maybe they did." Deni replied, still not giving up.

"Then why didn't they tell anyone?"

"Maybe they did." She repeated.

"Then why don't we know about it?" The boy was getting slightly more irritated at this point.

"I just told you. So now you know." She was having none of his logic today.

"That doesn't count. You didn't see them." He took a step closer to her, in hopes of intimidating her.

"Maybe I did." She took one as well.

"Yeah? When?" Another.

"Last night." And another.

"You said you have proof, where is it?" Another step and a raise of volume.

"In my head!" Careful young one, the first to lose their cool is the first to lose the battle, after all.

"That doesn't count!" They were head to chest close now. Damn that boy's height.

"It does too!" She tightened the hold on her book.

"Then why did you bring that book? Admit it you're lying." He almost sneered.

"Am not! The book has more proof! I wanted you to read it, but if you're gonna be so mean about it, you can forget it. You're just a big mean non-believer!" The girl shouted.

Now, Byakuran could take many insults with a smile and a witty comeback, but the implication that simply because he knew aliens were real, he thought dragons and wizards weren't either, did not sit well with him.

"Well you're just a little girl! I am officially demoting you."

Deni gasped at this. Her eyes widened and filled with tears. But she refused to cry in front of someone she was fighting with, so she simply graciously walked away. Or more like stomped away. After hitting Byakuran on the head with her book. Graciously.

After that incident, the subject of aliens was never mentioned again, unless one of them sought out a fight. A week of not talking later, Byakuran (being the more sensible child, and not wishing their camaraderie to end just yet) apologized and gave her back her title. Deni accepted the apology and offered Byakuran some of the cookies her mother had just baked. And thus balance was restored to their relationship. At least for the next few days.
