Lighting can Strike Twice

Shaking her head Caroline let a soft chuckle out she continued on her way through the crowed, but staying close to the shops. Caroline sighed in relief when she had her music up loud like this she didn't need her shields up around her mind so much….it was at times like this she felt like a normal human girl and not a super powered mutant, but she did have to keep control of her electricity powers so that she didn't accidently overload anything. You ever know that feeling when time seems to start to slow down even when everything around you is going fast….that what was happening right now to our young hero and heroine as they passed by each other as some unknown force caused them to turn their heads and look at each other…..right in the eyes! Their pupils dilated for no more than a mere second as they kept walking their hands brushed agents each other creating an electric current that only he and Rich seem to have noticed, while Caroline pushed her sunglasses back up turning around…and disappeared in the crowd leaving Virgil and Richie staring after her "What was that V?" Shaking his head in a slow confused manner he wasn't sure himself, but all he could think about right at that moment was the color of that girl's eyes…and electric blue when their hands briefly brushed before going back to a perfect shade of dark blue with hazel around the center.
Peering around the corner Caroline stared at Virgil till his friend shook him out of whatever he was thinking and disappeared back into the crowed, she looked back down at her hand for a moment before shaking herself out of thought and went back to shopping for school supplies. Caroline left the mall around noon and desired to just act like a normal teen and go eat at a burger joint. Parking her guardian Caroline walked into Burger Fools, just as she sat down to start eating who would happen to come in, but Virgil and Richie, "I don't know Rich it felt like she had her own powers like mine…..you don't think she might start becoming a Bang-baby do you?" "I don't know V man, but if she is maybe we can get her to join us and you can earn some meager point with her by teaching her how to control her powers and show her a few tricks of the trade huh HUH!" as they joked around unknowingly the very girl they had been joking about was at their usual table, was getting up and walked past them again. "Rich it's her again!" Virgil thrust his tray of fatting food into his best friend's free hand as he raced after her, just reaching the parking lot as she pulled out and left "Damn it" his shoulders slumped, turning around and headed back in just to catch Richie stealing some of his fries "HEY!"
Four days later-First day of new school year
Caroline came out of the shower at 6:32 am heading back to her room as quietly as possible so she didn't wake Storm whose room was next to the bathroom, shutting the door Caroline tossed the towel that she had wrapped around her in her laundry basket pulling on her black boy shorts and a sport bra, before walking over to her closet and looked it over before grabbing her favorite long sleeve shirt with thumb holes. Then going over to her dresser she pulled out her favorite t shirt and black jeans, as well a pair of black socks, it was a red True Blood saying 'Bite Me…please!' in white letters over a black heart dripping a single drop of black blood. Caroline pulled it over her long sleeved one before pulling on her pants and socks and her boots that stopped just below her knee, she strapped on her black leather bristles with a metal sheet on the top with a cross cut out, her black studded cross back around her neck with matching earrings before grabbing her hooded jacket and headed down stairs, only to turn around and grab her phone and ear-buds.
Taking the stairs two at a time Caroline grabbed her sunglasses and backpack and placed it and her jacket in a kitchen chair, her sunglasses already on top of her head and one ear-bud in her ears as she made breakfast and her lunch. Over head she heard Storm up and about, smirking she quickly looked at her wrist watch seeing it was 7:12 am as she placed the meal on the table and quickly began to eat wanting to leave at 7:30. She just picked up her glass of fruit V8 juice when Storm came into the kitchen just finishing putting her left earring in before she sat down "You know I'm the one who suppose to take care of you Caroline" chuckling she put down her drink and picked up her last slice of toast scooping her last of her eggs and ham on it "If I did that Storm I would be in a hurry to get to school on time…..and without breakfast" she tried not to choke on her food as she quickly ate it and not to laugh all at the same time.
Shaking her head Storm ate at a normal pace as Caroline finished her drink before taking her dishes to the sink, Storm placed the finished paperwork where Caroline had just been eating at as she pulled on her jacket and backpack. "Remember to head straight to the office with theses so you can get your student ID card and schedule alright?" Looking up to make sure she was listening Caroline nodded "I heard you Storm" she snatched up the papers she waved her farewell and walked down the hall grabbing up her keys and out the door just as the watch on her wrist struck 7:30.
Virgil and Richie just made the final turn already dreading the upcoming school year; it was easier during summer break fighting Bang Babies without forgetting about some homework, essay or project now with a new school year it was back to trying to balance school, social, family and superhero without reveling themselves. "Ah another year in the old slammer huh V-man" Richie elbowed Virgil earning an eye roll " You were watching Scarface again weren't you?" before Richie could answer Caroline's black guardian roared past them making every student walking jump, before standing where they stopped jaws dropped in 'AW' of the expensive car pulling into the student parking lot. "Whoa ho! Look at that sweet ride guesses we got some rich kid that got kicked out of his private school." "Heh no kidding Rich" All the students filled into the parking lot fallowing the black car to where it parked, all the spoiled, preppy, or just all the girls including Daisy started to gussey themselves up thinking what everyone else thought…..that Caroline was a rich boy that must have gotten kicked out of his previous school.
Richie and Virgil stood on either side of their two female friends, the car door opens as Caroline stepped out ear-buds in, sunglasses on backpack slung over one shoulder as she closed and locked her doors. All the girls were disappointed it wasn't a cute boy, but only half disappointed since it was a girl...mostly likely rich if they became best friends with her change her to their style liking, get to shop with them buying them things that they couldn't get with their parents cards or from their own pockets. How she was dressed screamed to most of the other girls 'HELP ME' to Daisy and Rita, but to Virgil and Richie they stood there wide eyed unable to believe that the same girl they saw at the mall and Burger Fool was now attending their school. The rest of the boys saw a sexy bad girl and that turned most of them on fast, Caroline seemed to be deaf to everyone as she made her way past them….not even looking at anyone…..except she looked over right at Virgil only to quickly look away again and hurry inside .
"No way….." both boys said at the same time, Daisy and Rita looked at each other then at their friends "Do you boy know that girl?" snapping out of it Virgil shook his head "No not really we only saw her twice during summer break….I wonder who she is?" Rita looked down at her watch and gasped "Oh man we're going to be late on the first day of school! Come one guys!" all four of them ran for the front doors. 'How lucky can I be' Vigil Hawkins asked himself as he sat down Chemistry….his first class of the day! Richie was sitting on his left next to the windows as all the other students filed in, Daisy waved to them sitting off to Virgil's right, but one seat away just as the teacher was about to start passing out the opening class papers to be filled out by the parents/guardians and welcoming them all back for a new school year…the class room door opened once more, making Virgil's day a whole lot better…and maybe his future too. Caroline silently stepped into the classroom she must have found her locker ok because she didn't have her jacket, bag or sunglass on her phone and ear-buds were missing too. This let everyone see her strong but slender arms and her blue eyes that seemed to be alive with energy despite her attire, note books and folders for what looked like three classes were under one arm; while her right hand had a sheet of paper in it.
"Hello there miss are you in the right class?" the teacher Mr. Benton asked in a tone that held an air of stiffness….like just by judging how she looked thought she would have the crude attitude and would be a trouble maker, but what happened next shocked him and shoot down not only how he expected and everyone else expected her to act like in an instant. She smiled a shy smile "I hope so sir this is my first time in a public school, and not sure how the building works is this your class I would hate to be late on my first day….that would make a horrible first impression….don't you think sir?" her accent held slight British tone to it, and she was polite as she held out her paper to him.
Feeling slightly ashamed for jumping to conclusions to a new student like that he took the paper and glanced over it, before handing it back with a smile that she read as an none verbal apology "Yes this is the right room please take a seat we will be introducing ourselves in a moment." She smiled back at him again "Thank you Mr. Benton" before tucking the paper away as she gracefully walked to the open seat between Virgil and Daisy. She looked at Daisy smiling "Is it al'right if I sit here?" all the poor shocked Daisy could do was nod "Thanks" everyone's eyes were on her, but she ignored them like this was all normal to her.
Virgil couldn't stop the smile on his face nor his hand reaching out to tap her on the arm, as soon as he touched her arm the feeling of electricity shoot through his finger tips along his arm and straight to his heart making him gasp softly, Caroline's head snapped around so fast her hair whipped around her fluttering up across her face as a strain of hair got caught on the corner of her mouth just begging him to brush it free, Richie nudged his friend in the side snapping him out of whatever he was in as Mr. Benton cleared his throat, thanking his dark mocha colored skin that hide his blush he turned forward, but kept stealing glances at the new girl. After Richie introduced himself and sat back down Virgil stood up everyone looked at him, but their gaze wasn't as steady as the blue eyed next to him. "Hi everyone I'm Virgil Hawkins, I love hanging with my main man Richie and driving my sister Sharon insane."
He sat back down giving Richie a high five as Mr. Benton rolled his eyes, but turned his gaze with everyone else back on Caroline as she stood up. "Hello everyone I'm Caroline Xavier and this is my first year being in a public school….no I didn't get kicked out my father owns and runs Charles Xavier's Institute for the Extremely Gifted, and I had just graduated early and asked my father to allow me to enter the public school system to live as a normal teen for the remainder of my high school years." She sat back down and waited for Daisy to stand, everyone had a shocked look on their faces, everyone knew that Charles Xavier and his private school was for mutants like himself, if she was his daughter that meant she might be one too…..this only seemed to excite the student and worry the teacher more…but for Virgil and Richie they huddled together almost imminently
"So she's not a Bang-Baby…..if she is a mutant she still might be willing to join us?" Virgil nodded and looked over his shoulder at her: a new school, new city, no friends…..talk about throwing herself to the wolves. The morning flew right by and soon it was lunch Richie and Virgil carried their trays out of the cafeteria in search of a table…..and low and behold Caroline walks into the lunch room with a bag lunch in hand walking to the farthest table in the back corner and sat down Virgil and Richie quickly made their way over there, "Hi there mind if we join you?" Richie piped up first looking up Caroline smiled seeming relived, "Yes please I would be honored if you would." Virgil quickly took the seat next to her making Richie sit on his left which was alright with him, "So how is your first day here?" Caroline pulled out her lunch of a green apple, ham and cheese sandwich barbecue chips and a bottle of "It would be better if all the idiots that pretend to care how I'm doing and who I am would stay away….but I can tell you guys are different." Caroline finished before taking a bite of her sandwich that was cut in half, before they could ask what she meant Daisy and Rita came over and sat right down on the other side of her. "Hi there you must be Caroline, I'm Rita and this is Daisy. So is it true?" Rita asked over eagerly leaning closer to her, which in turn made Caroline's whole body tense "Is what true?" she asked wearily before taking another bite of her lunch.
"That you might be a mutant?" Daisy clarified, trying not to chock on the food in her mouth, holding up a hand she quickly chewed and swallowed fallowed by some of her soda "And what if I was why would you be so….excited about it?" Virgil and Richie looked at each other they had their reason for wanting to ask, but Caroline was right they never showed interest in mutants before…so why now. "We just wanted to ask since we heard that you're from that academy….so are you?" Caroline smirked and leaned forward slightly suddenly all four of them felt a slight pinch in their heads as she kept eating 'Yes I am if you really must now' all four seats of eyes widen looking around to each other "Did you guys…" 'Hear what Virgil?' Caroline was fighting her laughter as Virgil jumped staring at her with his mouth wide open "My father has the same power, but unlike him and like a few other mutants I have multiple powers." Caroline finally took pity on them, but when she looked over at him and Richie 'Don't worry I'm just talking to you two….you want to talk to me later in private meet me by my car after school.'
Daisy and Rita started chatting up with her again while all five of them ate lunch, all the while a few tables away Virgil and Richie were being glared down and unknowingly challenging them. The rest of the day seemed to slow down till finally the bell rang Virgil and Richie bulleted out of class and to their lockers before running out to the parking lot, Caroline wasn't there yet "If she could talk in our heads….do you think she could read our minds too V?" Virgil readjusted his backpack strap on his shoulder he had a funny feeling that they were being watched. "I don't know Rich…." Virgil lowered his voice "But I think we are being watched," without making it look like he was checking who might be watching them, Richie looked around to everyone else it looked like he was looking for Caroline. "Ya I got that feeling too V" suddenly students started to stop and mutter to each other looking over his shoulder colored drained for Richie's face, "uh oh….V we got trouble."
Virgil fallowed Richie's gaze walking towards them was none other than Theodore and four of his equally spoiled friends….and five of Dakota high school staring football players, "What do you think you're doing standing next to my soon to be girlfriend's car Virtle and Brich?" all five of them chuckling at their lamb attendant of making fun of them, all the while the seven boys never noticed Caroline walking towards the group….stop a few feet away watching what was unfolding before her. Her eyes narrowed at the leader of these brainless Neanderthals, slowly waving her fingers around at her sides causing her shadow to creep forwards attaching to each one of the football jocks that unknowingly would see what happened to fools that threatened her friends.
"We are waiting for her if you have to know Theodore…" that made the egotistic meat heads laugh, "Oh yeah right Hawkins like a hottie like that would ever give you the time or day!" "Actually I would and am…" Caroline starts walking forward hands in her pockets, her backpack hanging off her left shoulder, sunglasses on...but even with them on everyone could tell she was staring them down. The rest of the thugs behind Theodore would have started to back off and ran with their tails between their legs if they hadn't been more afraid of him, Theodore for a moment was shocked before recovering and smirked at her slowly strutting up to her, leaning down slightly into her personal space. "Oh really and why would you want to hang out with those losers when you could come and hang out with me….maybe we could go see a movie later?" He said in what many other girls in this school had fallen for…..but with her it made her skin crawl and a sick feeling stir deep in her stomach.
Giving him a sweet smile Caroline reached up and pulled off her sunglasses before pocketing them in her breast pocket, "Oh really! I would…."looking over his shoulder to Virgil and Richie who looked in disgusted and shocked…that is till she finished her sentence "….rather die." Theodore's head snapped back around as a mutter and soft gasp rippled through the crowed that was watching on.
"Care to run that past me again….I could have sworn I heard you wrong." No woman ever turned him down….maybe she just didn't know who he was yet, Caroline looked at him with an eyebrow raised "And what is it you think you misheard?" she asked crossing her arms over her chest leaning back on her heels "I think I heard you say you would rather die than go out on a date with me." Caroline smirked again which only annoyed and infuriated him only further "Then you heard right….now please excuse me."
As she tried to walk around him to get to Virgil and Richie when Theo suddenly and roughly grabbed Caroline by the upper part of her arm, jerking her suddenly back around to face him "Don't walk away from me! Who do you think you are rejecting me and brushing me off like I'm nobody!" his face was flush was anger at being rejected in front of practically the whole school, glaring back at him 'Wrong move buster' she growled in the back of her mind and was about to pull the shadows forward when Virgil came to her side like a knight in shining armor. "HEY! Didn't your mom teach you how to treat a lady?" 'If only I could use my powers on this jerk!' Pushing Caroline out of the way Theo and his buddies surrounded Virgil and Richie, already creaking their knuckles "And your dad should have taught you to mind your own business Hawkins!"
Just as he jerked his fist back to punch Virgil, Caroline raised her hand up black fog flickering around her hands the shadows leapt up around them as his fist came forward stopping inches from Virgil's face ! "What the…!" Virgil and Richie both had to blink a couple of times along with the rest of the school as the five high school football players struggled agent tentacle like bonds….made from their own shadows! "Don't you dare lay a finger on my friends you pathetic excuse of a human being!" Caroline growled dangerously as she flicked her hand again wrapping them from their mouths down to their ankles in their own shadows, "Oh and by the way I know exactly who you are Theodore Falster, and this is your only warning…..stay away from me and my friends and anyone that is either related of associated with them in any negative manner….or you will wish you were never even that twinkle in your parents eyes when they made you!"
Standing up she walked over to Virgil a light dusting of a blush on her cheeks, "No one has ever come to my aid like that before….thank you." Once more thanking God for his dark skin to hide his own blush Virgil rubbed the back of his head smiling "No problem" smirking Caroline jerked her head towards her car "Want to come over we can talk at my place if you want?" Virgil and Rich looked at each other psyched up at the thought of getting to ride in that sweet car "Are you kidding! Heck YA!" high fiving each other till Virgil winced at something "Ooohh…wait I have to call my dad first before we go….just so he knows if to except me home in time for dinner or not." Caroline smiled and pulled out her phone and tossed it to Virgil "Use my cell I don't mind, you can call while I drive so I know if to head to my house or…..to where ever you guys want to be dropped off at…." Caroline was already heading to her car by the time Virgil had even dialed up his pops work number.
It was 30 minutes later Caroline pulled her Guardian up into the driveway next to Storm's car getting out of the car Virgil looked over at the other car "Your parents got a nice car Caroline…..WHAT?!" Caroline was covering her mouth laughing "That's not my parents car….my dad is in a wheelchair back at the academy and I don't have a mom per-say…." Virgil and Richie both gave her an equally confused look she waved her hand at them, "Never mind, that's my guardian Storm's car." Virgil and Richie walked around the side of the car just as Caroline reached back in to grab her backpack "Storm?" Slinging her bag over her shoulder she closed the door locking it she smirked nodding to the house, "Come on I'll introduce you guys to her."
Walking the went into the living room, the boys stopped dead in their tracks at the flat screen, latest game systems, music system, and surround sound speakers. "WHOH look at all this!" Richie's eyes were dancing like a kid in a candy store; Caroline hung up her coat peeking around the corner "What?" she walked into the living room dropping her bag next to the coffee table "What do you mean 'what' look at this!" Their eyes were zoning in on the rows of games, Caroline sat down on the couch "Don't you boys have homework?" jumping around at the different female voice that came from behind them, walking into the living room with a dish towel drying her wet hands was an light brown African woman with snow white hair. Turning her head slightly she gave the woman a soft smile "Oh don't be a stick in the mud Storm." Caroline ducked as Strom whipped the dish towel at her, "Virgil, Richie this is Storm…Storm these are my new friends Virgil and Richie."
