Chapter Three
Later that evening, while everyone else was asleep, Serenity made her way to Aslan's tent.
"You should not be here, your highness" Aslan said quietly.
"I know what you're going to do" Serenity said quietly. "I'd like to know why" Aslan turned to face the princess, a grave look in the eye.
"You of all people should be able to answer that question" He replied. "Did you not sacrifice your own life so that of your people would be free?" Serenity nodded.
"But the witch..." She trailed.
"Do not trouble yourself so, Princess" Aslan replied. "What must happen, will"
"Of course Aslan" Serenity replied quietly. She left the tent and went back to her own sighing. A short time later, out of the flap of her tent, she noticed Aslan leaving and two females trailing behind him. She sighed and decided to follow Lucy and Susan, to see that they did not get into any trouble.
"Aren't you suppose to be in bed?" Aslan asked, suddenly stopping. Serenity had concealed herself to be invisible. Lucy sighed.
"We couldn't sleep" Lucy replied. Susan nodded.
"Please, Aslan. Couldn't we come with you?" She asked.
"I would be glad of the company tonight" Aslan said. "You may show yourself Serenity, I know you are there" Serenity allowed the glamour to fade away. They three girls walked in silence beside Aslan until he stopped again.
"It is time. From now on, I must go on alone" Aslan replied. He continued to walk and Serenity turned to head back, but she saw Susan and Lucy go the opposite way, continuing to follow Aslan. She sighed. They were not going to like what they saw, but she could not stop the events in motion, that much was clear in her vision. Lucy and Susan watched as Aslan walked through the mist of Jadis' minions as they jeered at him and insulted him. He walked slowly towards the stone table and Jadis.
"Why doesn't he fight back?" Lucy whispered. Susan put an arm around her sister.
"Bind him" Jadis commanded. Three minions went to bind him, when she stopped them. "Wait. First let him be shaved" There were more jeers, as Ginnibrik moved forward and began shaving Aslan until his giant mane was gone. "Tonight, the Deep magic will be appeased, but tomorrow, we will take Narnia, Forever!" Serenity paled. Jadis leaned down and whispered in Aslan's ear. With her hearing, Serenity could hear clearly, what was being said.
"You know, Aslan, I'm a little disappointed in you. Did you really think that by giving your life you would save the Human boy? Ha. You are giving up your life, and saving no one. So much for love" She stood and gripped her knife. "In that knowledge... Despair... and DIE!" She plunged in the knife and Aslan's growled in pain and his eyes slowly closed. Tears filled Lucy and Susan's eyes. "The great cat is DEAD!" Jadis' army cheered loudly. She turned to a Minotaur. "General, gather your army and prepare for battle. However short it may be"
Once everyone was gone, the three girls made their way to the body of Aslan. Lucy grabbed her cordial and unscrewed it,
"It's too late. He's gone" Susan looked down.
"I'm sure he knew what he was doing" Serenity said quietly. She gestured back towards camp. "We have to go"
"We can't just leave him here" Lucy protested.
"Lucy there's not time. We have to tell the others" Susan said. Serenity stood.
"I'll go" She said. "Peter will need my help in the battle to come anyway" The girls nodded and Serenity left.
Peter was asleep in his tent along with Edmund when Serenity entered. She gently brushed his hair back and he awoke with a start. She looked at him with saddened hallowed eyes.
"Serenity, What...?"
"I bring grave news.." Serenity began. Serenity explained to the brothers what happened to Aslan and where Lucy and Susan were. Peter and Edmund stood around a map with Serenity and Oreius.
"You'll have to lead us" Edmund told his brother. Peter hesitated. "There's a whole army out there waiting to follow you"
"I can't" Peter protested.
"Aslan believed you could. And so do I" Edmund declared. Peter looked at his brother, surprised and amazed that Edmund had that much faith in him.
"I do too" Serenity said firmly.
"what are your orders?" Oreius asked. Peter looked down at map...
Much later, the Narnians were geared and ready for battle. A gryphon flew down towards Peter who was sitting on the back of Gem, a unicorn.
"They come, you highness, in numbers and weapons far greater then our own" The gryphon said worriedly.
"Numbers do not win a battle" Orieus said firmly.
"No" Peter agreed, "but I bet they help" They watched as the Witch's army appeared in the horizon.
"I take no interest in prisoners. Kill them all" Jadis told her army.
