Chapter Eight

Caspian, Luna, Trufflehunter and Nikibrik walked through the forest.

"Are you sure we shouldn't wait for the kings and queens?" Trufflehunter asked. Luna sighed.

"Perhaps" She said, "But I need to see Artemis. I'm sorry"

"It's alright, you're majesty" Trufflehunter said, "But what will they say when they see we've brought a Telmarine with us?"

"Yeah, I'd like you to explain that one to the Minotaurs" Nikibrik snorted. Caspian stopped and tugged on Luna's arm.

"Minotaurs… they‟re real?" He asked worriedly.

"And very bad tempered" Trufflehunter warned.

"Yeah, not to mention big" Nikibrik added. Trufflehunter nodded.

"That's enough" Luna said firmly. "You're scaring the poor boy"

"What about centaurs? Do they still exist?" Caspian asked, a bit intrigued. Luna sighed.

"Well, the centaurs will probably fight on your side. But there‟s no telling what the others will do" Trufflehunter said.

"They will do what Artemis tells them. Caspian is under my protection" Luna replied. Suddenly Trufflehunter sniffed the air.

"What is it?" Nikibrik asked.

"Human" Trufflehunter replied. Nikibrik raised an eyebrow.

"them?" He asked, gesturing to Luna and Caspian.

"No… them!" They looked over and saw Telmarine soldiers approaching on foot.

"There they are!" One of the soldiers said.

"Run!" Trufflehunter shouted.

They ran away as arrows flew past them. Trufflehunter got hit and fell.

"Oh no…" Nikibrik moaned. Luna ran back to Trufflehunter and knelt beside him. The Soldiers stopped and took aim. Suddenly the ferns rustled, and a soldier fell. A confused look crossed Caspian's face. Luna picked up Trufflehunter and ran. More soldiers fell as they pursued the group. Luna reached Caspian and Nikibrik and put the badger down.

"Get him out of here" She said. She conjured up a sword and began walking back towards the soldiers. Another soldier fell. The last one threw down his crossbow, drew his sword, and started swinging wildly at the ferns around him.

"Where are you?!" The soldier shouted. He fell. The rustle in the ferns started coming towards Luna… then, something flipped out of the ferns and knocked Luna down. A sword flew into the air, landed in the creatures' hand, and was pointed at Caspian.

"Choose your last words carefully, Telmarine!" The mouse hissed.

"I'm not a Telmarine" Luna protested. The mouse sighed.

"Do not think you can fool me" He hissed. "The only humans in Narnia are Telmarines"

"Reepicheep, stay your blade!" Trufflehunter called. Reepicheep turned to face the badger.

"Trufflehunter? I trust you have a good reason for this untimely interruption" Reepicheep said.

"It's Luna!" Trufflehunter shouted. Reepicheep stared at Luna and quickly scrambled off of her. Luna got to her feet.

"My apologies, your majesty" He said, bowing low. "I take it you are the one who blew the horn"

"I am" Luna said.

"Then let her bring it forward" They turned to see Four centaurs coming over the hill.

"This is the reason we have gathered" Glenstorm, one of the centaurs said. Caspian moved closer to Luna.

"This boy is a Telmarine" Nikibrik said. Everyone turned to stare at Caspian. A Minotaur started forward.

"Stop!" Luna commanded. "I demand to see my brother, Immediately"

"King Artemis is at the How" Artarik, a Minotaur said. "We can take you to him, but we cannot take this boy"

"Why?" Luna asked.

"He is a Telmarine" Windmade said.

"You would hold him accountable for all the crimes of my people?" Luna asked.

"Accountable…and punishable!" Nikibrik scowled.

"Listen well" Luna said, her voice rang through the forest. "Prince Caspian is under my protection. It is my intention to see Miraz dethroned and Caspian in his place. Caspian saved me from my prison. If there is anyone here who doubts my word, then he is no friend to Narnia" She stood regal and high, like a queen should. There was complete silence and then Trufflehunter spoke.

"Some of you may have forgotten, but we badgers remember well, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was king"

"Artemis is our king!" Several voices shouted out.

"I am not" They all turned to see Artemis walking through the crowd. Tears filled Luna's eyes as they embraced.

"I can not be the King of a world that I no longer no" Artemis said quietly, but everyone heard him. "This boy can help us. He is a Prince. The Telmarine throne is rightfully his. I believe in Caspian and I believe that he can bring peace between us"

"It is true. The time is ripe. I watch the skies, for it is mine to watch as it is yours to remember, badger. Tarva, the Lord of Victory, and Alambil, the Lady of Peace have met, and here a son of Adam has come forth to offer us back our freedom" Glenstorm replied. He bowed before Caspian. "I would be honored to have you as my King"

"I may only be a child" Caspian said. "I am 12 years old, but I know how to fight and together we have a chance to take back what is ours"

"we offer you our lives… unreservedly" Reepicheep bowed.

"Miraz' army will not be far behind, sire" Trufflehunter spoke.

"If we are to be ready for them, we must hurry to find soldiers and weapons. I am sure they will be here soon" Caspian replied.
