Chapter Eleven

Back in the How, Caspian sat alone in the meeting room, wondering how the battle was going.

"Are you so glad of that magic horn now, boy?" Caspian turned to see Nikibrik. "Your kings and queens have failed us. Your army's half dead. And those that aren't will be soon enough"

"How do you know that?" Caspian asked.

"You know as well as I do that no one can penetrate Miraz's fortress" Nikibrik replied. Caspian frowned.

"What do you want?" He asked.

"You want your uncle's blood. So do we. You want his throne? We can get it for you. You tried one ancient power. It failed. But there is a power greater still. One that kept even Aslan at bay for near a hundred years" Nikibrik replied. Caspian wasn't sure that he liked where this conversation was headed. He heard footsteps and tensed.

"Who's there?" He called. A wolf came out of the shadows.

"I am hunger. I am thirst. I can fast a hundred years... ...and not die. I can lie a hundred nights on the ice... ...and not freeze. I can drink a river of blood and not burst" The wolf replied. An old hag stood next to him.

"Show me... your enemies! What you hate, so will we. No one hates better than us" She declared. Caspian hesitated.

"And you can... guarantee Miraz's death?" He asked, confused.

"And more. Let the circle be drawn" The old hag pointed her staff at the cave entrance and a sheet of ice appeared. In it, trapped, was a beautiful woman with icy and pale skin. Caspian gasped.

"Wait. This isn't what I wanted" he said. Jadis looked at him.

"One drop of Adam's blood and you free me. Then I am yours, my king" Jadis replied. The Hag grabbed Caspian and cut his palm. She began pushing him towards the witch.

"No! Stop!" Caspian pleaded. "Aslan, help me!" A golden lion appeared and roared loudly. The ice cracked and shattered, and Jadis vanished. Caspian turned to face the lion.

"Aslan," He whispered.

"Show me your hand" Aslan requested. Caspian held out his bleeding hand and Aslan breathed on it. The blood vanished and there was no trace of a scar.

"You doubted the Kings and Queens of Old" Aslan reprimanded. Caspian looked down.

"I am sorry" he replied.

"It is okay to be afraid, child" Aslan replied. "But one must have faith to believe"

"Why did you let my people take and destroy Narnia?" Caspian asked.

"That is not for you to know, young one" Aslan replied. "No one is told any story but their own"

"Am I to be king?" Caspian asked. "Can I lead the Narnians and the Telmarines?"

"You will be a great King, Caspian" Aslan replied.

"Caspian, they're ba..." Lucy entered the room and stopped in her tracks. "Aslan!" She ran to the lion and wrapped her arms around his Mane, tears in her eyes.

"You came," She whispered. Aslan nuzzled her chin.

"Of course I came, dear one. But you knew I would" He said. Lucy nodded.

"The others weren't sure" She said quietly. "Why are you here now? Why didn't you storm in during the battle at the castle?"

"They did not need me" Aslan replied, "Caspian did"

"Will you stay?" Lucy asked. "Will the others see you?"

"Not yet, dear one" Aslan replied. They heard footsteps and Aslan vanished.

"He's gone again" Lucy sighed. Suddenly, they both heard his voice.

"I am always with you" Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Artemis entered the meeting room.

"What happened?" Caspian asked.

"Miraz is deposed" Peter replied. "Luna is making preparations for the New King of Narnia" Caspian nodded and squared his shoulders.

"I am ready" he replied. The group of Narnians returned to the castle, to find Aslan waiting for them and the Telmarines in the village were gathered together. As Caspian came to stand beside Aslan, Aslan began to speak.

"Narnia belongs to the Narnians, just as it does to man. Any Telmarines who want to stay and live in peace are welcome to" Aslan replied. "Those who don't may leave Narnia" Aslan turned to Caspian. "Caspian the Tenth, is your new King and will rule with a kind attitude towards all who live in Narnia. Caspian, are you ready to be crowned King of Narnia and unite together humans and Narnians?"

"I am" Caspian replied. Luna stepped up with a crown.

"I crown Caspian, as High King of Narnia, Lord of Cair Paravel and Emperor of the Lone Islands" Aslan replied. Luna placed the crown on Caspian's head and everyone cheered. Prunaprismia stepped forward.

"Caspian, I know that what Miraz did was wrong, and I..." Before she could finish her sentence, Caspian hugged her.

"I want you to be my mother and help me be a good king" He said. Prunaprismia was touched and hugged him back. Aslan then faced the pevensie children.

"We're going home, aren't we?" Peter asked.

"No" Aslan replied. The children looked up at him. "Your time in that world is up. Narnia is where you are needed most" Lucy gasped and smiled, hugging Edmund. The Pevensies were happy that they were being allowed to stay.

"I have one last thing," Aslan said, turning to Luna and Artemis. "I am offering to take your immortality so that you will be able to live a normal life here in Narnia"

"Thank you" Artemis said. "Luna and I would like that very much"

The Telmarines and Narnians partied into the night, celebrating Caspian's coronation. Aslan left just before dusk and was not seen again for many years, as it was peaceful in Narnia.

During a political trip, Caspian met and married Liliandil, and together they had a son named Rillian.

Luna married Peter and they had two daughters, Serenity and Diana.

Artemis married Lucy, and they had no children, but doted on all the children in the castle.

Edmund and Susan remained unmarried, as they were always on political envoys and were not at the castle very often.

Rillian married Serenity and Diana married Caspian's cousin Rhince.

Soon, their descendants took over running Narnia, but the ancient kings and queens of old, the Telmarine King and the Lunarian twins were stories that transcended generations and were told as bedtime stories for years and years to come.
