Chapter 7 - Together

"Everyone ready?" Captain America asks his fellow Avengers, and Loki.

The Hulk gave him a triumphant cry in reply. Iron Man winked at him and smiled like he was hitting on Captain America.

"Hey, cutie. I like your tights," Iron Man said.

Captain America rolled his eyes at Iron Man. "You never know when to stop do you? Besides, I'm too old for you."

Thor patted Captain America on the back sympathetically who was all suited up too.

Loki stood tall with his arms folded across his chest looking like he didn't want to be here. Of course, he wanted to be with Cheyenne who was being held hostage by her old and deranged friend.

Captain America felt a little sorry for Loki which was weird because before all he wanted to do was beat up Loki and knock some sense into that kid.

"Avengers Assemble! Let's go save Cheyenne and stop Astrid!" Captain America yelled.

Then, the Avengers (plus Loki) ran toward the towering mountain, la montana de los espiritus.

Once they all reached the foot of the mountain, they put their plan into motion. The Hulk grabbed Loki and Captain America, more roughly than was necessary, and carried them up the mountain. Thor used his hammer to pull him up the mountain. Iron Man, well he just did his thing. He propelled himself into the air with the help of his suit. Iron Man was the first one to reach the top of the mountain, so he decided to show off and do flips in the air.

"Oh there you are. What ever took you so long?" Iron Man grinned as Thor made it up the mountain second.

Thor replied: "Now I can see why Captain America complains about your obnoxiousness all the time."

Iron Man took it as a compliment and went back to doing flips in the air like a little five-year-old.

Once everyone was on top of the mountain, Iron Man took a stick of dynamite and lighted its flare. Then, he tossed it at the peak of the mountain. He used his suit to shoot missiles at the peak of the mountain to give the explosion he made an extra ka-boom!

The smoke cleared and instead of there being a peak at the top of the mountain, now there was a big gaping hole in its place.

"Who wants to go in first?" Iron Man asked the others.

"I shall." Thor answered. Thor jumped into the hole. He didn't hit the ground for quite a long time.

"It is about 1 mile from the hole to this ledge I'm on! Be careful, my friends!"

"Okay, I'm next!" Iron Man exclaimed.

Before Iron Man could jump into the hole, he received a new phone call. "I have to answer this guys."

"Who could it be?" Captain America asked.

"I dunno, maybe it's your ugly mom." Iron Man retorted, leaving Captain America fuming mad.

While Iron Man answered his phone, The Hulk couldn't wait any longer. He jumped into the hole screaming madly as he fell. He reached Thor just fine.
Thor called up to them. "Hurry! I need back up! The Hulk is trying to eat me!"

"It is my turn to go." Loki said. He jumped into the hole and disappeared in the darkness.

Now it was just Captain America and Iron Man left up on the mountain. It turned out that the phone call was from Iron Man's new girl, Leslee.

"Leslee and all of Cheyenne's friends are coming to help!" Iron Man told Captain America, smiling.

"There they are now!"

Iron Man soared down to the foot of the mountain and carried Leslee and Angelica up the mountain in his arms. He looked like a total ladies' man. Iron Man put Leslee and Angelica on top of the mountain. Then, he went back down the mountain to pick up Emily, Fiona, and Yazmin.

As Iron Man put Angelica down, Angelica stumbled on a rock and lost her footing, almost falling off the side of the mountain. Captain America caught her and put her back onto her feet, away from the edge of the mountain.

"We have to stop meeting this way," Angelica said to Captain America, laughing.

"Catching people is my job, ma'm. And I would catch you any day." Captain America said, smiling down at Angelica.

"Smooth, that was smooth," Iron Man said, winking at Captain America and Angelica.

Captain America's face turned bright red. Angelica and Leslee laughed as Captain America with his cherry-red face tried to push Iron Man away as Iron Man smiled a goofy grin at Captain America.

With all the girls on the mountain, Iron Man decided it was his turn to go into the mountain. He took a deep breath and grabbed Leslee, Emily, and Yazmin. Then, he flew into the abyss of darkness.

Captain America grabbed Angelica and Fiona. "Hold on tight ladies, this might get a little rocky." Cap said.

He jumped into the hole at the top of the mountain.

Inside the mountain, the only source of light came from Iron Man's suit. "See, my suit can be very useful in times like these! I don't think super strength or a strong shield can produce this much light can it?" Iron Man asked, bragging away.

"No, but a torch can." Cap replied as he lit four torches. The torches were much brighter than Iron Man's suit.

Iron Man pouted as Captain America handed torches to the girls.

The group of heroes walked down a ledge that was not very wide and very hard to navigate. The darkness all around them didn't make it any easier to navigate down the ledge.

"Do you know where we are going?" Fiona asked Loki.

"Of course. We are going to the west side of the mountain. Cheyenne told me that Astrid and she used to go to that side of the mountain because there used to be an opening big enough for them to crawl through. They would spend hours pretending to be princesses or warriors inside a cavern inside this very mountain. She said that the west side of the mountain isn' populated by many spirits so that is where we are going. We just need to figure out a way to get into the cavern without blowing up the whole mountain. This is rocky terrain we are standing on."

"Literally." Iron Man added.

"Can we keep the jokes to a minimum? This is serious business." Loki said.

"Fine. Walking in the dark and not talking will just make us all more uneasy. I'm just trying to lighten up the mood" Iron Man answered.

They walked for what seemed like ages. Along the way, The Hulk almost fell off the ledge and almost knocked three more people down with him. Everything seemed to be going well.

"Why did the chicken cross the road?" Iron Man asked.

"Ugh..." replied Loki.

"Nope, he crossed the road because there was a cow behind him holding a sign saying 'Eat More Chikin'" Iron Man said, finishing his joke.

The girls laughed at the joke, even The Hulk did. Thor laughed too because he realized it was a reference to one of his favorite restaurants, Chick-fil-A. He went there with Jane before.

"I don't understand." Captain America said. Loki shook his head. He didn't understand either.

The girls and Iron Man just laughed more at the puzzled looks on Cap and Loki's faces.

"Come on, let's keep moving." Loki said, starting to lose his patience with Iron Man.

Drip. Drip.

"Where is that dripping noise coming from?"

"Maybe it's a ghost! Oooooooh..." Iron Man said, teasing Cap.

Cap felt something wet hit his face. He wiped it off his face and inspected it.

It was blood.

Everyone stopped in their tracks, listening.

"I never believed the stories about the spirits, but now they are starting to feel eerily true!" Leslee said.

"What did the stories say?" Thor asked.

"There was a story about a spirit who likes to take the form of a vampire bat. It corners its human victims and drinks their blood, but it only does that if you make the spirit mad in some way. I have a feeling we are near where this spirit lives so we have to be really quiet and we have to make sure that we don't make it mad," Angelica replied.

"Um, what are we standing in?" Iron Man asked.

"It looks like the spirit's nest!" Yazmin said, covering her mouth to stifle a scream.

There were bones all over the nest, human bones. Blood continued to drip down from the top of the ledge that they were standing on.

A drop of blood fell on The Hulk and startled him.

The Hulk went into what the Avengers liked to call "Smashing Mode." The Hulk smashed all the bones and destroyed the nest.

"Uh oh. We are in deep doo doo now." Iron Man said.

He picked up some of the girls and flew away from the nest with them.

Cap America, The Hulk, and Thor stayed behind as Loki took the rest of the girls to safety.

Hummmmm

The spirit was getting closer.

There it is.

The spirit was in the form of vampire bat like the story said, but it was bigger than they had imagined. It was at least ten feet tall.

Cap tried to reason with the spirit. He apologized for messing up the spirit's nest, but the spirit was too angry. The spirit was merciless.

A full blown battle ensued.

Meanwhile, Loki and Iron Man were trying to calm down the girls. Leslee yelled at Iron Man.

"We're fine! We are big girls! We can take care of ourselves! You can go out there and save the day now!" Leslee shouted.

"I want to stay here to make sure you ladies are okay. Besides, I don't want to leave you alone with Loki. He was evil once upon a time and anything could happen if I left you here alone with him!" Iron Man shouted back.

Loki glared at Iron Man, but Iron Man didn't acknowledge it. He was accustomed to people glaring at him like that.

"Fine. If you won't go, I will." Angelica said. She raced out to fight with the other Avengers.

"I'm going too!" Yazmin yelled.

Soon all the girls were racing out to fight.

"What are those girls going to fight with? Lipstick?" Iron Man said, exasperated.

"No! There's something we forgot to mention. You don't know everything about us. We aren't just a bunch of girly girls. We are stronger than we appear." Yazmin said as her already startling green eyes started to glow greener and brighter. Soon, beams of green light began to shoot from her eyes and it burned holes into the wings of the vampire bat spirit.

Emily started picking up boulders the size of trucks and she chucked them at the raging spirit. Meanwhile, Leslee showed off her tae kwon doe skills by attacking the spirit from behind, but she was kicking with super-human speed.

Angelica raced to Captain America's side. The spirit was facing Captain America and it shot out what looked like acid from its nostrils. Angelica calmly stood in front of Captain America and braced herself. Before Cap could cover her with his shield, Angelica held her head in her hands. The acid stopped in mid-air and fell to the ground before it hit Angelica. Then, Angelica looked up at the monster. Cap followed her eyes and saw that she was staring at the spirit's claws. The spirit's claw started involuntarily scratch at the spirit's face.

Fiona tied up her hair. Wind started to encompass her as she pushed off the ground. Fiona started to soar above the spirit. She dipped down and picked up some sharp rocks. She threw them at the spirit's eyes. Two sharp rocks hit the spirit's eyes.

The spirit screamed in pain.

The spirit knew it was defeated. It crawled away, deeper into the mountain.

"What?!" Iron Man exclaimed, dumbfounded.

All the Avengers wore dumbfounded looks on their faces. Had they just seen what they thought they had seen?

"We'll explain later. Less dumb looks. More walking." Leslee said as she and the other girls started walking the way they were walking before.

"Dang" Iron Man said, smiling. "Those girls rock. I've never been star-struck in my life, but now I know how it feels to be star-struck."

Iron Man followed the girls like a lost puppy.

The other Avengers started walking too, all of them still pondering the situation that had just happened.

They came to a dead-end.

The wall that stood in front of them was thick rock, but it looked like it had been tampered with by human hands.

"It's about time you showed up."

The Avengers looked up and saw that the wall wasn't really a wall at all. It was a dam.

Above them stood Astrid, her hence woman Denise, and Cheyenne. They were clad in leather black uniforms and scientist goggles.

"The only way to get into my lair is if I let you in. There is no way in hell that I am going to let you in. I will never let you in. Nunca."

"Well, I guess we will just have to find our own way in. I have the Avengers on my side. They always bend the rules, and it seems to work out for them all the time." Loki said, as confidently as he could.

Loki thought she saw Cheyenne wink at him behind her goggles.

"Good luck with that. Sucks to suck, doesn't it?" Astrid replies.

"Hey, that's my line!" Iron Man yells, pouting.

"Good bye, losers. My machine is almost complete. Choose your words carefully because come tomorrow they might be your last." Astrid threatened, turning around and flipping her hair as she went. She walked into the darkness. Denise stuck her tongue out at them before she followed Astrid into the darkness. Cheyenne smiled a small smile at them before disappearing after them.

Her small smile seemed to say: "I believe in you."

"Okay, everyone." Loki told the Avengers. They formed a huddle circle.

Loki continued. "I have a plan to get into Astrid's lair, but if it is going to work, we have to stick together."

To be continued... ;D
