Authors note /: Hi guys! I'm back with another chapter of Kidnapped! I tried to make it a little longer this time since you had to wait like forever! Sorry.
I own nothing but the plot line.
Kidnapped
Levy's POV
Levy landed hard in the cold snow and the jump itself wasn't that greatly timed either. She had jumped almost without looking or even knowing if a huge rock or maybe even a snow covered river was lurking beneath her. She rolled her legs up to her chin as the huge train rushed past her above her head. The dunking sound and the cold winds hit her harshly and she almost regretted jumping for a second. When the train finally disappeared deeper into the dark forest she stumbled up on her unsteady feet, all she could see of the train was the gray smoke coming from the chimney and she sighed hard in relief that she made it out alive. Where the train was going or what would've happened to her if she had been on board for its destination she probably would never know. Probably, she didn't even want to know. What did it matter now anyway? What she needed now was to find shelter and then think of a way to get home.
Team Natsu's POV
"How's Jet doing?" Erza asked
"Has anybody found anything? Heard anything? Anything at all?" she continued
"Not at all?" she sighed hard and bit her fist lightly with clenched eyes, "Well, I guess we'll just keep looking then, take care, Mira,"
"You too, say hi to everybody from me," Mira smiled before turning the lacrima off and vanishing to nothing.
"Well?" Gray said eagerly.
"Still nothing" Erza shook her head.
"Jet and Droy don't remember anything?" Gray said with a bitter or rather, shocked, tone.
"No, they don't and that is kind of a problem. If they could just remember something, anything, we could have something to go on, but we don't and we can't just set out on a hunt all over Earthland without a single clue on where she might be," Erza tilted her head over at Gajeel who sat on a bench with Lucy next to him and Natsu squatting on the ground in front of them. "I can't believe this..." Gray whispered, "I don't understand any of this!" He suddenly said harshly and set foot towards the rest of the group.
He stopped in front of Gajeel and crossed his arms. "Tell me again, everything. Maybe you missed a detail? Lucy, you too, you didn't get a single clue other than "north"?"
"No" Lucy whispered
"Nothing" Gajeel concurred
"I don't get why you didn't ask them, or forced them to tell you more! You were there for a while and you had them all tied up at the end, you should've gotten some answers for gods sakes!"
"Gray… stop" Lucy said with a shaky voice.
"Don't you think I've thought about that, huh? Don't you think I regret not beating them until they told me exactly where she was? I hate myself for not knowing where she is, I have no clue and it kills me so back off before I smash your face in!"
Lucy held Happy in her arms and he cringed slightly by the raised voices.
"Gajeel, please." Lucy laid her hand on the dragon's shaking shoulder and padded him soothingly "we need to work together. We have to. If we start arguing we'll lose focus and time"
Gray was a little taken aback from Gajeel reaction but he understood. He immediately regretted questioning him like that, but he still hoped his words gave Gajeel some fury and determination. "I'm sorry," he said "I know you're upset,"
"Yeah," Gajeel nodded "I'm sorry,"
Lucy smiled at them both still stroking Gajeel's back.
"What do we do now?" Happy asked and leaped up in the air trying to get a better view of the town.
"I think we should take the next train. It'll take us pretty far north so I think it's a good place to start" Erza folded the map and started walking in the direction of the train station.
Everybody followed willingly.
Levy's POV
Levy had gathered all of her strength and had stumbled along the train tracks for a while hoping to come a across a village or even just a single house. The harsh winter wind whipped merciless against her bare legs and arms and the snow it brought with it made it sting like a thousand knives every time it hit her tender skin. She regretted not looking for a blanket on the train to bring with her, but there was no time to think about such things right now.
She needed to stay focused and keep moving. As she walked further and further into the seemingly endless dark forest she kept praying that a train wouldn't show up and force her to jump back into the cold snow. After a while she saw a vague light ahead. It blinked uncontrollably in the snow and it wasn't a very bright light. But light meant people. She hurried up and felt her hopes getting higher by every step she took. But when she came around a turn she saw it. The bridge. The wooden bridge stretched across a huge canyon with a rough and dark lake rushed in the bottom. She trembled just by looking down, but she had no other choice but to walk across it. The old wood shrieked in the strong wind and Levy felt the whole thing would fall down just by stepping on it. She clung to the icy railing and tiptoed slowly out on the wooden floor, now her prayers where even louder, if a train came now, she'd be done. There was no space to hide and jumping off the bridge would surely mean death, and if the jump itself didn't kill her the icy water would do the job.
Team Natsu's POV
"Are you guys ok?" Lucy muttered while looking over at Natsu and Gajeel. The two dragons had met their biggest weakness yet again. The train. They both laid flat down in the aisle making one disgusting noise after the other.
"Hey, fire-bastard! What about a fight?!" Gray challenged jokingly and started nudging Natsu's head with his foot.
"Do you really think that's fair, Gray?" Happy asked
"He's green face makes me want to punch him, ok?" Gray said darkly
"Evil…" Happy whispered
"Bring it.. ughh.. on… stripper bastard" Natsu panted and tried to pick himself up from the floor.
"Stop it!" Erza said so sternly that Natsu just dropped his body back to the floor.
"You really don't look too good guys," Lucy said, "Maybe you should try to sleep?" She padded her own lap as a sign for Natsu to lay down, but when she saw how much trouble he had climbing up to the seat she got down and helped him up by lifting him up by his waist. Soothed by Lucy's smell Natsu fell asleep as soon as his green face hit her lap.
Levy's POV
After crossing the bridge with her life still intact Levy looked up and searched for the light she had seen earlier. It was brighter now so she had to be close. The train tracks swung around a mountain and she followed them as fast as she could. When she finally came around the mountain after what felt like an eternity she looked down on a small mountain village, with dim lights shining in the snow that was slowly but steadily building up to what she imagined would be a rough blizzard in not too long. The wind had picked up pace and the snowflakes had become bigger and icier, hitting her face and naked skin even harder than before.
When she made it down to the village train station the sign told her that the village was called Parsa. She couldn't remember ever reading anything about this place, it had to be a really small village. She tried opening the front door to the station but it was closed. "Typical" she sighed and looked around. Right now any shelter would do. A small cabin lay a little ahead from her so she figured it was where she should go.
She walked up the three steps up to the front door and knocked with her almost frozen hand. She hadn't really had time to think about how cold she was, but now she felt her knees giving in and her eyes threatening to shut at any moment. She had just about zero strength left in her body and now that she was finally somewhere with people her entire body went numb and refused to move. The last thing she remembered before falling was the door being opened and her thinking, "thank god".
- Team Natsu's POV
After the long train ride from Dillen and further north the Fairy Tail mages arrived in the small countryside village Leitz just as the night was about to settle. Lucy gently woke Natsu up by sliding her fingers through his rosy hair and whispering "Wake up, we're here," Natsu grunted and looked right into Lucy's beaming eyes. "Oh," he said. "You sure slept hard," Lucy smiled with her fingers still entwined in his hair. "Ahaha, I didn't mean to make it uncomfortable for you, sorry if your legs are hurting." He laughed a bit awkwardly as he scratched the back of his neck nervously. He sat up and laid his hand in her lap where his head had been resting. "It's fine" she smiled again, "As long as you were comfortable,". Natsu looked after her as she followed the others out on the platform. "What did she mean by that?" he mumbled, "Che.. idiot," Gajeel scoffed and shook his head.
After the mages had heard a little around in town they realized they would have to travel even further. No one there had any clue on where to find the Silver Cape guild, or had seen or heard anything about a bluenette mage.
"We'll just have to board the next train and continue searching," Erza said
"So no one heard anything useful around here?" Gray asked the others
They all shook their heads.
"I tried to see if I could see her from above, but nothing" Happy said
"Ok, but we'll take the train then, let's wait here until it comes!" Lucy said cheerfully and sat down.
"The next train won't leave until morning" a little old man walking by said making Lucy's face drop.
"We'll spend the night here. I saw a motel not too far from the station." Erza pointed out
"We don't have any money" Lucy and Gajeel said together
"We'll just share two rooms, we brought some money" Gray said following Erza
Minutes later Lucy unlocked the door to a small and dark bedroom.
"Wow this is so small!" Natsu blurted out in amazement.
"You don't have to share a room with me you know," Lucy muttered
"I do. I said I'd never let you out of my sight again and that means sharing a room so I'm sure nothing more bad happens to you during the night!" he smiled
"I see" she said and looked over Natsu's shoulder, "Then why are you here?"
Gajeel lifted his head and grinned at her, "I don't like the idea of you two sharing a room alone. Besides, if something were to happen, then I better be here to make sure flame brain doesn't screw up," he tilted his head towards the flame brain and added, "Again."
"Asshole" Natsu scoffed.
"Jeez.." Lucy sighed.
Gajeel's POV
"Gajeel! Help!"
He turned around. "Levy? Levy! Where are you!"
"Help me!" The crying voice was filled with desperation and Gajeel felt his stomach twist from the sound.
He looked around. Snow. Snow everywhere. Where was he? How did he get here? Tall pine trees hovered over him and wherever he looked it was all the same. "Levy!?" The sound of his voice echoed a couple of times before it got all quiet again. "Levy! Answer me, where are you?"
"Why won't you help me..?" Her voice muttered in his ear.
He turned around and there she stood. Just like that. Her blue hair hung in her face and her body was covered in cuts and bruises. She held her left arm over her right and cried "Where are you?"
"I'm trying to find you! Tell me where you are!"
"You won't help me.."
"Yes I do! I'm trying!"
Levy lowered her head and fell to the ground, her small body sat quietly in the white snow.
"Levy.." Gajeel walked over to her and opened his arms to take her in but just as he knelt down he saw the white snow turn red. "Wha- what?"
Suddenly he saw the cuts in Levy's arm deepen and widen and thick red blood flowed down her pale arm and landed in the snow beneath her.
"Levy! Please! Don't die!" He stretched his arms out but he couldn't reach her. He was pulled back as he tried to crawl closer to her. He wanted to hold her, to tend to her wounds, to kiss and hug her until she was all better but he was stuck. Just as Levy disappeared in front of him she lifted her head and he could see her sore red eyes looking at him with disappointment and sorrow. "No! Levy I'm trying! Don't leave! Please..!"
Gajeel woke up covered in sweat and with a heart racing so fast and hard he was afraid it might explode. He felt empty and worn out yet excited and impatient. He sat up and looked over at the bed where Natsu and Lucy were sleeping quietly in each other's arms. "Heh, fire bastard" he huffed with a smile and walked over to the door and let himself out without a sound.
- Levy's POV
Levy woke up in a dark room covered in blankets. The smell of chicken filled the small room and she turned over to see a smoking bowl on the nightstand next to her. The smell reminded her of when she used to be sick as a child. Hilda would always bring her special chicken soup and feed it to her as she told how the other mages in the guild were doing. She would tell about their missions, about all the bad guys they beat up and all the innocent people they rescued. And of course about how much mess they always made. Levy used to think that Hilda always overreacted when she told her about all the destruction, but as she got older she understood that she might actually have underreacted instead.
Levy sat up and looks around the room. A window was slightly open and blowing in a mild breeze making the dark curtains dance in the moonlight.
"Where-Where am I?" She pulled the blankets off of her body and stepped on the wooden floor. Her feet were still a bit unsteady, but she felt much better. She remembered knocking on a door, but she couldn't remember if she talked to anyone. Was she in that same house?
She tiptoed over to the closed door and looked out in a partly lit hallway. Without thinking much about it she opened the door and started looking around.
"Excuse me?" she said
"I'm downstairs, honey" a husky voice answered and she followed it down a squeaky staircase.
An old woman sat in a big chair with her knitting and a crackling fireplace in front of her.
"Hi" Levy said tryingly
"I'm glad to see you up so soon!" the elderly woman pointed to a chair and Levy sat down.
"How long have I been here?"
"You knocked on my door last night and I found you lying in the snow completely unconscious."
"Oh," I haven't been here for that long then, that's good. She thought
"What's your name, child?"
"Levy McGarden, I'm a mage from the Fairy Tail guild."
"The troublemaker guild, huh?"
"Yeah" Levy giggled.
"I see, why are you out here all by yourself then?"
"I- I don't know. I can't really remember what happened. I was on a job with my friends, but we were attacked and the next thing I know I'm on this train with some really scary guys who zapped my magic out of me. Luckily I was able to escape and I wandered until I came here."
"That's some story you've got there. Well, I'm glad you're ok now!" The old lady smiled.
"Yeah me too. Now I just need to get back to Magnolia, do you know when the next train will be here?"
"The train station is closed, dear. You'll have to get to the next one and that's about a day's trip over the mountain," she looked out the window and towards the snowy mountain surrounded by harsh winds.
Levy followed her gaze and shivered just by thinking about going outside while there was a raging storm going on, but she had no choice. She needed to get back home, and as a Fairy Tail mage she would be alright, she had to be.
"You won't be able to cross the mountain in this weather if that's what you're thinking," like she had read her mind the old lady came up to her and padded her head.
"Stay until tomorrow and I'll see if I can find someone to guide you there, I insist." Her warm smile made Levy relax and sigh with relief, if someone was guiding her then it would certainly be a lot easier. Plus, the guys from the train could be out looking for her and she did not want to meet them alone.
Team Natsu's POV
Natsu woke up by the door handle being turned and he sat up looking around the room. Was there anybody there? A thief maybe? Or maybe the guys from Silver Cape had come to get Lucy and Gajeel back. Either way he was prepared to fight!
"Gajeel?" he whispered but got no reply
"Gajeel, are you awake?" still nothing
He leaned over and saw the empty couch. "Dammit!" he looked down at Lucy still sleeping and Happy purring at the end of the bed. No need to wake them, he thought. He figured he'd go looking for Gajeel by himself and if he didn't find him within ten minutes he'd wake the others. He carefully slithered his arm from underneath Lucy's neck and brushed her hair out of her face before slowly standing up.
He walked down the narrow hallway of the motel and down to the first floor. The old floors made squeaking sounds as he went but he tried to avoid waking anyone up, especially Erza.
When he reached the first floor he walked up to the reception and figured he'd ask if they had seen anything. A sleeping man was laying over the front deck lacrima and muffled snores were the only sign he was still alive.
"Ehm, excuse me?" Natsu coughed.
The man jolted and was clearly embarrassed to be caught sleeping while working.
"I'm sorry!" he exclaimed "What can I do for you?" he wiped some drool away from the corner of his mouth and put up a wide smile.
"I was looking for a friend of mine, have you seen a huge guy with big black spiky hair and a lot of piercings walk by here?"
"Uhm yeah, I saw someone like that leave out the front door about fifteen minutes ago," he looked up at the clock and nodded at Natsu.
"Ok, thanks," he turned and headed towards the front door
"Uhm, sir? Shouldn't you put on some clothes before going outside?"
Natsu had forgotten to put his shirt on before leaving but he didn't have the time to go back and get it now, if Gajeel was planning on leaving them behind to look for Levy by himself he could get in a lot of trouble.
Natsu rushed out the door and stopped to check if he could pick up Gajeel's scent. Fortunately, he could. It didn't seem like Gajeel had come very far in those minutes. Natsu went around the building and found Gajeel sitting on a bench with his head resting in his hands.
"Hey!" Natsu yelled
"Why are you out here by yourself?" he felt annoyed that he had worried so much for Gajeel.
"I just needed some air. What's it to you?" Gajeel huffed
"I thought maybe you'd left us behind,"
"So you were worried, eh?" Gajeel grinned teasingly
"No!" Natsu protested "I just didn't like the idea of you being out by yourself. You have a habit of being a bit unpredictable and getting yourself into trouble,"
"Yeah, look who's talking, huh,"
Natsu sat down next to Gajeel. No one said anything for a while. A chill wind brushed against them and made it rush in a nearby maple tree.
"Is blondie still sleeping?" Gajeel asked
"Yeah,"
"You left without telling her, huh?"
"I didn't want to wake her. Why?"
"No reason. Just wanted to make sure she was ok."
"I guess you two have become pretty close lately, right?"
"I guess so, yeah."
Natsu wondered why Gajeel had brought Lucy into the conversation.
"I kind of like her," Gajeel said trying to provoke Natsu
"You li-like her?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I, you know? I mean, she might not be the strongest mage but she's cool," Gajeel teased, he hoped to see some kind of fire in Natsu's eyes and he surely did.
"Lucy is plenty of strong! You have no idea what you're talking about! You should've seen her in Edolas and when we fought Oracion Seis, she was amazing. She never gives up no matter what; I really envy that side of her."
Gajeel grinned under his black bangs. He knew it.
"Lucy is kind. She's warm and she's caring; she never fails to amaze me with her strength and courage. Even without her keys she's one of the strongest people I know. I feel extremely lucky to know her and to get to be with her almost every day. Her smile is like a drug to me, I never get tired of seeing her face light up. It just drives me crazy when she cries; it's the one thing I can't stand." To Gajeel it seemed like Natsu drifted into his own world when he spoke of her. His eyes went soft and Gajeel could feel the temperature increasing when Natsu mentioned Lucy's smile.
It went quiet again.
Gajeel felt better somehow. The dream from earlier had seemed so real and it had honestly scared the hell out of him. If Levy really was in such bad shape… then he had no time to lose. He had to find her as fast as he possibly could. Her cries would probably haunt him forever and seeing those deep cuts made this stomach twist.
"I don't mean to interfere but…" Natsu looked away as he spoke. He hated having to ask this but he just had to know the truth. "I mean, you said that you… like.. Lucy." Natsu gulped hard and turned his head away.
"Yeah?" Gajeel had to hold back a laugh, poor guy.
"And I saw the two of you earlier,"
"When?" Gajeel was suddenly confused.
"When you ran off into that park and Lucy came to talk to you. She smiled so brightly to you and you hugged her,"
"Wait, you followed us?"
"I had to! I was so curious and I didn't want to let Lucy out of my sight!"
"Che.. bastard! Anyways what's your point?"
"Are you two like… a couple… or something?" Natsu's face turned bright but in the kind darkness Gajeel could only guess his face color.
"Gehe.." Gajeel laughed making Natsu even more nervous.
"Don't worry flame brain. I like bunny girl but not it's not like that," He shook his head "Besides" he winked at Natsu's relived face, "I think she might already have someone she cares about,"
Natsu looked confused, but Gajeel didn't want to speak out of his place. It was up to Lucy to tell Natsu how she felt, not him. But he just had to see that look on Natsu's face.
"Wait, what? Who?" Natsu exclaimed
"Woah there, that's really not my place. You ask her about it. We should get back inside don't you think?" Gajeel stood up and started heading back to the motel.
"Wait." Natsu said
Gajeel turned back to him.
"Why were you out here in the first place?"
Gajeel shrugged his shoulders, "Bad dream, maybe?" he said and went ahead and back inside.
Natsu sat put and thought about what Gajeel had said. "Already have someone she cares about? What's that supposed to mean?" Natsu muttered before getting up and sauntering inside after Gajeel.
Either way he was glad he had been able to ask Gajeel about it and even happier about what Gajeel had said about it. Now all he wanted to do was crawl back into the warm bed, pull Lucy into his arms and hold her tight for the rest of the night. Tomorrow would be another long day with another long train ride.
"Maybe Lucy will let me sleep in her lap again," He whispered cheerfully.
