Chapter 11:
New Game
Aqua steadily floats downward passing by little light spheres showing play through of past events and of her friends. Many of them recent such as the moment when Terra, Ventus and her were star gazing at the Land of Departure. Another was at Toon town seeing all the talking animal citizens clap, celebrating with ice cream. The last orb she past by was Ventus telling her and Terra to put an end to him.
From below she saw a brightly lit stain glass tower with a painting of herself sleeping holding her keyblade in hand and smaller pictures of Terra, Ventus and master Eraqus. There like a splat of black paint with unforgettable golden eyes, was Xehanort's apprentice waiting. He smirked holding Voidgear, pacing himself like a hungry lion ready to pounce on his easy floating prey.
"Welcome home, master." He said sarcastically as Aqua's silver boots touched the lighted glass.
She summoned Stormfall standing on guard, "How are you still alive?! We all defeated you at the Graveyard!"
"Defeated?" he rose an eyebrow, "Is that what you really believe?" He spun his keyblade in one blink, dashed to the other side of the tower as Aqua blocked his attempted slash. Blue and Black clashed against each other.
Abruptly, Vanitas casted a small dark Flare causing an explosion onto Aqua to be pushed to the edge of the tower as she leaned herself back on the platform. "Come on, he's the weaker one. Stupid enough to shatter his own damn heart!"
He waved his keyblade to the side, "Enough about him, I've got a much more comfortable vessel now."
Aqua focused her energy for a Thundaga shot as she tried to take aim, "Get out of my heart!"she said while her legs began involuntarily shaking, and arms became weak as she kept bobbing her keyblade uncontrollably. The yellow electricity dying from her keyblade's tip.
What is wrong with me?
Noticing her hesitation, Vanitas teleported and reappeared behind her for an aerial attack, but the exhausted girl cart wheeled at of ways harm. The dark apprentice busted out laughing as Aqua's legs finally gave out from under her. "Oh?" He slowly walked his way toward her. "Has anyone told you being away from your body actually weakens your light?"
Aqua held Stormfall up but was unable to hide the unsteadiness of her hand. The invader kicked the keyblade as it slid away from reach. He brought his Voidgear close to his enemy's neck as she angrily stared directly into his empty eyes. "You are nothing compared to that fool."
"Right now, I could devour your light in one gulp…" He rubbed his blade to her skin smiling in enjoyment, looking for any sign of fear in those blue eyes. Then to the maiden's surprised he lowered it slightly. "…but I'll be nice."
"All you have to do is lead me to where my body is hidden."
Aqua clenched her fist, icicles forming around them. "Never!" She shouted using ice barrage, as large ice crystals burst out of the ground directly below the boy. Vanitas teleported himself away once more giving a short distance away from the draining mage. "I rather die than betray my friends!"
The spiky hair boy childishly chuckled then in one serious tone, "Then I'll break you."
"Darkness can't ever taint my heart." She replied raising herself ever so carefully back to her feet.
Vanitas began circling around the weakened girl, "Wanna bet? Your heart already has a little darkness in it and with me here it will grow." He stopped behind her. "Don't worry you'll soon learn to love it…" then he teleported in front of her looking straight in her eyes. "…Just like Terra."
"Shut up!" Aqua shouted attempting to grab him but instead lost balance falling back down to the floor.
Vanitas jumped back enjoying every moment of this light user's misery. "Let's play some games shall we?"
Aqua just stared at the glass ground. She knew he was just toying with her, "Why would I ever agree to do that?"
"Play with me or die now."
The blue haired master thought in silence for a moment. She knew she wasn't strong enough to fight him. Not yet. If she could buy some time for herself to get stronger maybe she could defeat him and regain her body. All she needed was time.
Might as well humor him…
"Fine." She looked up at Vanitas smiling thoughtfully. "I'll play your game."
…And win.
"Hmph, that's a good girl." He said raising Voidgear stabbing the stained glass as black cracks veined all over the tower. "Let's see how long you last." The dark user turned his keyblade causing the floor to completely shatter.
Once more Aqua fell deeper into the unknown abyss a voice echoed in her ears in the darkness whispering, "Sweet dreams…"
