Kon's head was buzzing through Math, then History, then English. By his fourth period, Natural Science, he was begging the day to be over. Listening to his teachers drone on and on made it incredibly easy to zone out, and think about the pink she-devil running through his brain. It hadn't been this bad since he was a freshman—in fact, he'd once or twice in recent years sworn off daydreaming about her. And yet, here he was, staring at the space between the 'u' and 't' in 'evolution', which was scrawled across the whiteboard. No one else could see, but somewhere between that 'u' and 't', Trina Riffin was flipping her shiny pink locks over her shoulder, and batting her long eyelashes at him in slow motion. Kon shook his head, looking around the room in a daze before rubbing his eyes. He set his sights the clock above the board, willing it to be lunchtime. He needed a distraction from his own thoughts way more than he needed to hear about Homo-erectus.
Students filed out of the class once the bell finally rang, much to the relief of the drummer in the back. Being as huge and considerate as he was, Kon let everyone leave the class before him, mostly so he didn't accidentally squish anyone in the doorway. After everyone was out, he zombie-walked his way to the cafeteria, shaking the last bits of Trina-induced sparkles from his subconscious. Suddenly, he felt a small but powerful thud on his side as Kin launched into him in a hug.
"Kon!" he screeched, excited to be reunited with his twin. Kon smiled, happy to finally have company.
"Kin!" he yelled back, squeezing his smaller brother nearly flat.
"Do you always need to do that?" Came Laney's dry enthusiasm from behind the pair. It only made Kon smile wider before dropping Kin to the floor, more than happy to have his friends around to distract him. Corey joined them at the cafeteria door, slinging an arm around Laney before trying to snatch her lunch-pail from her. He laughed at her defensively keeping it away from his reach, and gave her a series of quick kisses to the side of her head.
"Aww, c'mon Lanes—what'dya bring me?" He tried again for the box but got a firm whap on the knuckles instead, making him yelp.
"I tell you to bring your own lunch, and you don't listen." She squinted at him before smiling and dragging him to their designated lunch table. Kon laughed, along with his twin, gleefully following the crazy energy his friends brought along wherever they went.
Laney wedged herself in the seat pushed into the corner, her favorite, and opened up her lunchbox to loot around for something small to snack on. Kin dug through his backpack, ignoring Corey getting his hand smacked as he reached for Laney's food a third time, and threw his lunchbag on the table. The twins' mother always packed their lunches, but Kon always got a school lunch too—after all, it was free! Corey would usually head up with him, but today Kon questioned if he really needed that second lunch. He thought over his options as Corey chatted away with Laney and Kin, laughing about what happened in whichever class today. After a couple minutes Corey got up and looked at his mammoth friend expectantly.
"C'mon Kon." He smiled his typical, too-big smile, thumbing towards the lunch line. Kon felt a twinge of guilt, but got up to go with Corey anyway. As they stood together in line, with Corey yammering away about some possible future gigs, Kon tried to convince himself that he shouldn't feel guilty about eating. He was a big guy, he thought, and yknow, there was no way he was going to seriously date Trina or anything—she was just teasing him for laughs. So he should be able to eat all he wants; he's not out to impress anybody. Kon nodded to solidify his decision.
Kon had felt good about eating his regular two lunches—that was, until, he remembered that he had Gym with the band after lunch. He groaned miserably while he tried to keep up with his brother, who, honestly, wasn't very fast. Laney jogged past them, a full lap ahead of the duo, followed shortly by Corey. Corey beamed at them, shooting the pair a two pistol thumbs-ups and a quick 'You can do it guys' before turning back to the track. Kon wheezed—he was always terrible at running. If anything, he admitted, he could stand to do more aerobics, if only so he could catch his breath when he ran.
He still hadn't fully caught his breath by the time they were changing out in the locker rooms. Kon looked to Corey, who had a slim six pack—he assumed from all the jumping around he did—and his brother, who despite missing nipples, was thin like how girls liked. Kon frowned down at his chest and gut, which was currently shining from sweat. He quickly scrubbed it all off with his gym shirt and threw it in the locker he shared with Corey and Kin. He put on his deodorant while Kin and Corey sprayed themselves down with body spray—too much, if you asked him.
"Finally!" Corey exclaimed happily, slamming the green wisp of man-stink shut in the locker door. "Monday's over with." The trio went out to meet with Laney, who was reapplying her black lipstick with the aid of a purple pocket mirror. Corey smiled wide, bounding over to get some newly-applied-lipstick kisses. Kin and Kon followed behind him less exuberantly. The twins tried to ignore their guitarist and bassist smooching, waiting for the bell to ring and let them leave. Kon sighed happily—he was glad the school decided to count their band as an elective—that meant they only had five actual classes each, and could leave earlier than everyone else.
The group had walked home together, stopping at Belchy's on the way—Now they we all lounging around lazily in the garage, eating fries and drinking shakes. Kon was lying on his back on the couch, dropping handfuls fries into his mouth. Kin was sitting on his stomach, playing with an app on his phone while he drank from the shake balanced on his shoulder. Laney was reading through one of her magazines, propped up on Corey, who was tuning his guitar with a fry sticking out from his lip. The lazy scene was abruptly interrupted when the right garage door opened, sending Kon shooting up in a panic, which launched Kin, milkshake, phone, and all, across the garage. Corey and Laney stared, startled, at Kon, who seemed to be having trouble swallowing his mouthful of fries, then to where Kin might have landed. Kin's skinny arm shot up from behind one of the pinball machines with a thumbs up. Upon seeing nothing had attacked them, Corey laughed, doubling over his guitar when Kin popped his head up and was covered in chocolate milkshake. It was only Laney who noticed the exchange between Kon and Trina.
Trina slammed her car door shut, flipping her hair loose with one of her manicured hands. She walked around the couch, Mina in tow, and smiled at Kon a little too sweetly, making him sink into the worn out fabric. Her smile widened at that, parting her full lips to show her teeth as she raised a hand and wiggled her fingers 'hello' at him. The 'hi' Kon managed back, was so quiet and meek, it was inaudible with Corey's laughing echoing in the garage. Trina took a step onto the stairs and glared at her brother, picking up one of their father's boots left on the steps.
"Augh, you're so annoying!" She yelled at him before throwing the boot at the side of his head.
"Ow! What was that—" Corey didn't get to finish his rebuttal—he was cut off as the matching boot embedded itself into his face. Trina laughed at his pain before continuing her way up to her room, Mina following at her heels. Corey pulled the boot off of his face as Trina slammed her door shut. "Augh, what is her problem?" He frowned, a boot mark imprinted on his face. Laney smiled a little, dusting his beanie off.
"She's crazy—kinda old news." She laughed a little before turning to Kon. "Dude, Kon, what was up with that thing with Trina?" Corey raised an eyebrow, unsure how Kon would have a better answer. Kon stiffened up against the couch, sweating under the sudden attention.
"Thing? What thing? I don't know what thing—"
"The.. this thing." Laney mimicked Trina's finger wiggle at him. Kon gulped, sweating more.
"U-uhh I don't know what.. that is.." Kon smiled sheepishly, anxious to keep his friends from knowing about Trina's intentions, and by extension, his still massive crush on her. Laney gave him a face and Corey turned to her, confused about what she was talking about. Luckily for Kon, the band let the incident stop at 'She's just being weird again' and left it at that. He breathed a sigh of relief, but stayed on edge, knowing she was just above him, probably plotting.
"HEE HEE HEE—this is so fun!" Trina giggled, flopping down on her bed. Mina smiled and pulled out both her and Trina's homework assignments from their respective bags, knowing she was expected to do Trina's as well.
"I'm glad you're having fun." Mina sighed contently before setting up on Trina's desk to work. Trina wiggled around on her bed gleefully before springing up and looking at herself in the mirror. She smiled at how attractive she was, striking a few poses at herself.
"Mins, life is so morejoyable when you're hot—I feel a little bad for you." She smiled wide, fluffing her hair, not honestly sad at all. Mina frowned a little, but shrugged it off, content with being second fiddle as long as Trina wasn't yelling. Trina pouted a little, crinkling her nose at her reflection. "I super have to bother Kon again—stupid Corey was being all.. ultra obnoxious likeusual so I couldn't hear anything!"
"So soon?" Mina questioned, halfway consumed in her writing. Trina snorted unhappily.
"It's not my fault it's too soon—maybe if Corey wasn't so untolerable I could take a nap or whatever." She smoothed her bangs behind her ears, making a pleased smile at her appearance. "B-R-B~!—Keep your nose to it!" She chimed before she pushed Mina's head closer to the desk harshly and bounding to her door.
Trina cracked her door open slightly before sneaking out to her balcony. She popped up, peeking over the side. The group never seemed to notice her whenever she was up here before, so she assumed today would be no difference, minus the fact that she wanted to catch one of the band mate's attention. Trina smiled, watching him nervously look around while everyone else was talking around the laptop below her. She gave her hair a flip, confident that would be enough to snatch Kon's attention. The boy in question snapped his eyes up at the flash of pink and gulped nervously at the sight of her. While the rest of the band was checking up on Chance Happening's cute animal blog, Kon was staring directly up at Trina, shaking in his combat boots. She smiled down at him, raising one of her shoulders to rest on as she waved hello to him again, mouthing 'hi' at him. Kon could feel his nerves rattling around in his chest, but raised his hand without thinking, waving back up to her.
She smiled at that, giggling silently. Trina looked around before setting her sights on the bathroom into the house. She looked back to him and pointed towards the house, gesturing with her head for him to go inside. Kon felt another rush of nervousness and quickly shook his head no. Trina furrowed her brow in silent frustration, but regained herself after a moment and returned to trying to get him away from his friends, this time adding in a few innocent wiggles and a good pout. Kon's lower lip wibbled as his resolve began to fail him. He looked down in anxiety, unsure what to do, when a thought crossed his mind. If they were alone again, maybe he could talk to her and convince her to stop doing whatever exactly it was that she was doing to him. Kon swallowed and looked toward the gang.
"Hey uh, guys, I'm gunna go the bathroom real quick." He said, already backing up towards the door.
"'Real quick'" Kin laughed with Corey and Laney before returning to the laptop screen. Kon winced a little as her looked back up to Trina, who was sparkling with excitement. He watched her hurry to the door at end of her balcony and head into the house before he walked toward the bathroom. The bathroom in the garage had another door that led into the house, and he reached it, he hesitated to open it. Once he built up his nerve, and locked the other door behind him, he turned the handle and opened it, only to see Trina already standing there waiting for him. He was taken aback by her wide, devilish smile. She grabbed his wrist and yanked him into the hallway, pulling the door shut after him.
"Hi!" Trina smiled up at him overly-happy, trapping him up against the wall. Kon let out a shaky breath, unsure of how he got here so fast when he was just in the doorway second ago. He stared down at her anxiously—he hadn't anticipated his protests getting stuck in his throat again. Before he could start his questioning, Trina placed a hand on his chest, wriggling closer. "Sorry about my loser brother—I didn't even hear what you said before." She snickered.
"U-uhh.. I.. I just said 'hi'.." Kon could feel his face heating up, and tried to somehow back up further against the wall. Trina seemed to be relishing off the embarrassment she was causing him.
"Aw, cute." She laughed again before pulling back. "You're such a scared baby." Kon frowned, cheeks flushed pink.
"I'm not a baby, you're just.. mean!" He huffed, trying to sound important. "Why are you even doing this? You don't like me—I know you don't." He puffed out his chest a little in an attempt to seem intimidating.
"Cause it's fun, dingus." Trina gave him a mean smile. Kon shrunk a little.
"F.. fun? How is this fun?" He questioned her, gesturing around the hall at 'this'.
"Because, watching you squirm—" She jabbed his forehead. "—Makes me feel soo super glad and things~" Kon's shoulders fell in confusion.
"What?—Why? What does this do for you at all!?" He raised his voice, embarrassed. Trina pressed a finger to his lips.
"Ew, no yelling at me." She nodded like it was a golden rule. She looked up and smiled, pressing her finger lower onto his chin. "I was sure even you knew better than to yell at cute girls." Kon's face went beet red, making her laugh again. "Oooh, so sad." Trina mused, turning back up to the stairs. She turned back, smiling meaner this time. "I'm majorly not done pushing your buttons yet—be a good little.. mechanical thing or whatever, okaysies? Bye~" She giggled evilly as she disappeared upstairs. Kon sagged against the wall, saddened by his own gutlessness.
"Why me?" He whined.
