Shelby glanced at the clock eleven thirty, thirty minutes until Rachel arrived. She was running through the list of things she had to do. She had taken down some of Santana's old things from storage for Rachel and placed them in the guest room. There was so much uncertainty with all this, she had never felt this nervous. She went up to the guestroom just to ensure she had not forgotten anything, when the doorbell sounded.

The room was silent. Rachel sat next to Brad on the couch opposite of Shelby. Shelby couldn't take her eyes off of her. She was here. Shelby tapped her foot anxiously, the tapping ringing throughout the room. Brad cleared his throat and started the conversation "So, Shelby I just have a few papers for you to sign. But first I think maybe Rachel would like to take a look around." Quizzically gesturing to the petite brunette that sat an arms length away. Shelby smiled and looked to Rachel "Of course, come with me." Rachel gave Brad a confused look, she didn't want to go with this women. She didn't want to be here. She wanted go home. Brad responded "Don't worry Rach, you'll be fine." Shelby held her hand out waiting for Rachel to grab a hold. Rachel cautiously got up from the couch bypassing Shelby's hand and began to walk.

As they walked Shelby narrated the tour, trailing behind Rachel realizing that the child obviously needed her space. "So this is the kitchen" gesturing to the door frame on her left. "And down those stairs and to the left is the family room. You'll like it, we have a ton of games and a ping-pong table. Noah is the raining champ in this house, but I think you can take him. " Shelby kept jabbering on from behind attempting to get some kind reaction from the child. Rachel strolled through the home quietly. They eventually went to the second level, passing by all the doorways, Shelby again listing who each room belonged to. Finally ending at the last two rooms "This room on the right is my room. The one on the left is yours and we can change whatever you want…." Rachel looking questioningly at her room and interrupting Shelby "Why is my room the only one across from yours?" Shelby being surprised by the girl responding began to stammer "Well sweetie, I just thought it would be…" Rachel immediately turned to face her, crossing her arms and looking annoyed she spat out "I'm not a baby. I don't want the stupid room across from yours'." Shelby knowing this was not about the room, but something more sunk down to eye level with her mini-me " Sweetie, your not a baby. Mommmy….I mean… I just want to know that your safe. And in a few days if you really don't like the room, maybe we can find something else or…"

Rachel frowned deeply when Shelby said "mommy" and became visibly frustrated when she continued with the sentence, taking as much as she could the small child let out an attitude that could rival adults twice her age " I don't have a mom. I have two dads. And I don't want to sleep in this stupid room. I don't want to be in this stupid house. I want to go home..I want…I want" she began to break down tears flowed out and she hid her face behind her hands as fell on her knees to making her just about coherent "I want…I want Dad and Daddy to come back."

Shelby's heart broke, she sat down on the floor seeing Brad stand from a far at the top of the stairs. She waved him off, knowing this is something she had to handle. Shelby instinctually placed her hand on her shoulder attempting to pull her in for a hug. Rachel flinched back, causing Shelby to withdraw her hand. "Rachie, sweetie? Is it okay if I call you Rachie?" Rachel shook her head, she wasn't giving this women one inch. Shelby began again "Rachel, I know your upset and everything's scary right now. But everything's going to be O.K." Rachel cried harder, shaking her head. Shelby responded to the negative headshake "No, why not?" Rachel pulled her snotty wet hands from her face, looking up pitifully "because I can't trust you."

Shelby unsure of where the conversation was leading took the cue "Why can't you trust me? " Rachel countering every word with an intake of breath "because….because….. you're….you're" choking on her last words and going back to covering her face. Shelby calmly crawled closer to Rachel, taking her hands from her face "I'm what?" Rachel still hyperventilating "you're an adult….. They lie. Daddy said…Daddy said….they were coming back…they didn't."

Shelby felt her heart break, seeing her youngest go threw something so heart wrenching and complicated that one could not just explain away with promises of ice cream and a new toy rocked her deep down. Shelby took her hands and held them as she spoke "Rachel, I know this all seems scary. But babe I want to tell you something that you can remember anytime you're thinking about your Dads' O.K.? Rachel I haven't known two people who loved or cared about you more than those two men. They loved you so much." Rachel sniffled and looked down " No, but…. " she began to cry again. Shelby tried to pull her in for a hug, but was met with Rachel ripping herself out of her arms and running to her new room. The door slammed and Shelby stayed on the floor staring at the empty hallway letting a loud sigh.
