AN: This one is short and kinda plot-y. But, there is a lot more Shules in the chapters coming up.
It had all happened so fast, she didn't have time to think about it. All the feelings she had been denying had returned, a thousand times stronger in the course of two seconds. She wanted so much for it never to end, but it did. Quite quickly.
Shawn and Juliet left Merrygrove's office after an exchange of goodbyes and hand-in-hand, headed off to their trust activities.
Juliet couldn't figure out what was going on. She was so confused. She wanted Shawn so badly, but at the same time she was so upset at Shawn for the reasons she accidentally let slip. She was afraid of the lack of commitment, lack of maturity, lack of stability, plus there were so many other things fighting against them, like the fact that they worked with each other on an almost daily basis. If they screwed up, someone would have to leave. It was inevitable. But at the same time she couldn't help falling for his hair, his hazel eyes, his quirky smile, his witty sense of humor, and the comments in between that proved he had more wisdom and soul then he'd ever let on. Who says they had to screw up? No, Jules- uggh- Juliet, you're with Richard. You're happy with Richard, and being with Richard isn't going to screw anything up. It isn't going to- to hurt anyone. Shawn will move on, you're not special enough to keep his interest anyhow. You'll get hurt. He'll hurt you. You won't be able to handle it-
"So, Jules- uh- nice acting in there. I actually thought you were serious for awhile," Shawn cut off her thoughts with a nervous laugh.
Juliet forced a smile as she squeezed his hand, "Yeah, you too."
"So, uh, did you hear when Merrygrove said we were the couple with the most potential? It sounds like he already has us pegged as the winning couple," Shawn stopped walking and faced Juliet.
"Yeah, so, I was thinking, if he's pegging the winning couple from the start and taking them aside-"
"He'll be able to get all kinds of personal info from them- before they die," Shawn finished her sentence, subconsciously resting his other hand on her shoulder.
"Right. So we need to talk to him and try to get the info about the other winning couples."
"Jules- what if he's the murder."
"Shawn, let's not jump to conclusions-"
"No, listen, he picks a couple from the start to get to know everything about them, he gathers this info which he can't share because of the patient privacy laws, so he can hide all of this, and I don't know what he does with the info, but I have a feeling about this-"
"Shawn, there's no motive."
"Uhh- well if they're dead, he doesn't have to pay for their honeymoon. He can also use the info he has to scam money out of the poor, defenseless, vulnerable wives. Via blackmail or identity theft or something."
"Wow. You've got a point," Juliet said, glancing up. Wow, when did he get so close? Focus! Richard. Why do you even have any hope? Just because you felt something doesn't mean he did. He was acting. He has Abigail, if he didn't give her up for you before, he's not going to now. It's a lost cause. But the kiss-"
"I'm a little hesitant to ask this again, but are you ok?"
"Hesitant? I'm not going to yell at you. I was in character before. And yes, I'm ok. I'm just trying to think this through."
"Well, ok. We need to go though, before we're late."
….
"I'm so tired."
"Oh my goodness, me too," Juliet sighed as she plopped down onto the bed after their long day.
Shawn searched around for some extra blankets, but found nothing, "Hey, Jules, do you see any extra blankets?"
"Uh, no. I'll call and see if we can get some," she said, picking up the phone.
Shawn went over to the bed to grab a pillow as he tossed it on the floor.
"Hi, this is Mrs. Spencer. Yes. We were wondering if we could get a couple extra blankets. I know. I see, but- Ok. Thank you though."
"What's up," Shawn asked from beside her.
"He said that they're not allowed to give us extra blankets. He said that Merrygrove says that if you cuddle close enough, you don't even need the blanket provided."
"Seriously? This guy won't give us a break, will he?"
Juliet laughed, genuinely, "I suppose not."
Lying down on the floor with nothing but a pillow, he added, "We have to get up early and do at least a little bit of work."
"Shawn, what are you doing?"
"Going to bed."
"Shawn, I'm not going to make you sleep on the floor with absolutely nothing."
"Well I'm not going to let you either."
"No, but you can have half of the bed. It is a queen-size bed."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. You stick to your side and I'll stick to mine and it'll be- it won't be weird."
"Ok."
"Ok," Juliet smiled, picking up her pyjamas and heading toward the bathroom, "Well, I'm going to get changed."
"Alright," Shawn replied as he grabbed his pillow and slipped under the covers of the bed.
When Juliet came back, Shawn was already half asleep.
"Goodnight Shawn," she whispered, pulling the blanket that stopped at his waist up to his shoulders.
"Goo'ny D'tective," Shawn managed to say before falling fast asleep.
Juliet smiled to herself. He was much more agreeable when he was a sleep. He had such an innocent look about him. It was nice to see him with his guard down. Slipping into the covers herself, she reflexively turned to her side and put her arm around him, before jumping back and scooting to the far end of the bed. Oh my God, I can't spoon with Shawn.
…
The first thing he noticed as he woke up was the overwhelmingly delicious smell of coconut in Abby's hair; he kissed the top of the head that was snuggled into his neck. Without opening his eyes he just pulled her closer into him. Then it hit him. Abby uses non-scented shampoo.
Opening his eyes, he saw the golden blonde waves surrounding him. He inhaled slowly and rubbed the back of the detective's neck. Why does this feel so right? Yawning, he closed his eyes, letting the smell of her shampoo consume him, he drifted back to a comforting sleep.
AN: Review, please? Pretty please?
