AN: And we're another chapter closer to being caught up. I know some people really want a new chapter and I really am trying. I promise the next day I have off, I will work on it until it is finished or I explode.
Bzzzzzzz Bzzzzzzz Bzzzzzzz
Juliet, not bothering to open her eyes reached for her phone. Wow, I haven't slept this well in ages. It's so comfy. She always left the phone on the pillow next to her, so when she reached up and couldn't find it she was a bit confused. But since her mind was clouded with drowsiness, she didn't think twice about it and just reached further over.
"Hello," Juliet asked, wondering who it was since she had yet to open her eyes, "Chief?"
"Did I wake you, detective?"
"Yeah," Juliet mumbled, "We don't have to wake up for awhile."
Shawn began to stir, and Juliet finally opened her eyes and realized that she was cuddled into Shawn's arms. Looking up at his sleeping face, she became very confused by her hormones. They were yelling at her to lean in and kiss him, fortunately, she thought, Chief was able to distract her.
"How is the investigation?"
"So far we haven't been able to do much digging, they keep us busy all the time."
Shawn stirred again, this time yawning and opening his eyes. After the couple seconds it took for him to get a grip on where he was, he whispered, "G'morning Detective."
Juliet did nothing but stare into his eyes, until the chief questioned, "Do you have any suspects yet?"
"Yes, our lead suspect is currently Dr. Merrygrove himself."
"Did Shawn divine this or-"
"No, it's based off of motive, look we don't have any other leads, but we do have a long day ahead of us. Can I call you back on our break later."
"Detective-"
"Yeah?"
"You do realize that it is your duty to make sure you two are the winning couple, so no civilian's life is in danger."
"Yes, ma'am. No worries, we've already been pegged as the winning couple."
"Really, now? By whom?"
"Dr. Merrygrove."
Chief smiled to herself. Even the professionals think they're perfect for each other. Now only they need to see it. "Alright, I'll let you get back to sleep."
"Bye."
"Shawn, what happened to us staying on our own sides of the bed?"
"Jules, you're impeding on MY side of the bed. This is your fault."
Juliet looked behind her. So she was. She had no retort. She looked up into his eyes and began to lean in to kiss him when Shawn moved his hand from the back of her neck to in between them, to stop her.
"Jules," he pleaded.
Juliet closed her eyes, him stopping her stung really badly. She knew he was doing the honorable thing. They were both in relationships. But for some reason it really hurt and confused her, not that she wasn't confused to begin with.
"Sorry," she breathed in, and opening her eyes again she continued, "I think the whole undercover thing is just confusing us."
"Yeah."
"Ok, well I'll just go to my side until we have to wake up."
"Ok, that sounds good," Shawn laughed nervously.
Juliet scooted to the other side and laid there for a moment shivering before saying, "Shawn, I'm really cold."
The next moment Juliet was back in Shawn's arms.
…
It was group lounge time, Wednesday night, when Shawn took Juliet's hand in his and suggested they go for a stroll along the path out back. Shawn was having a great time spending basically every moment with Juliet. Normally he hated when a girl was always around him, he felt suffocated, but with Juliet it was different. Like the other night at the campfire, when someone was telling a scary story, he didn't expect her to grab his hand and curl into his chest out of fright. That was his job. Juliet wasn't afraid of anything. It was nice to see that she did have weaknesses- to see her quirks. He liked knowing that she could and would turn to him to comfort her too. He didn't expect her to be good at yoga either. Maybe it was her tough cop exterior, but he didn't imagine her being good at something so gentle so fluid. But damn, she was good, and looked hot doing it. He had fallen a couple times just because he couldn't take his eyes off her ass.
He also noticed that she had a few insecurities through their counseling sessions, insecurities that he couldn't understand. At one point she said something that hinted at the fact that she didn't believe herself to be pretty enough. God he thought, if she's not pretty, I don't know what the hell is. She's the most beautiful girl I've ever and then he shoved the thought out of his head. It's not my place to be thinking about her like that. The more he got to know about her, the more often he found himself studying her every move, every facial feature, every word. This is not good, Shawn, you were supposed to be over her. You need to be concerned about Abby. Shit! Abby. You haven't talked to her since Sunday. She is going to be pissed. You need to call her when you get back upstairs.
"Shawn," Juliet asked, interrupting his thoughts.
"Yeah?"
"I asked you a question, but you were spacing out."
By this time they we're completely covered overhead by the forest that the path went through, it was pitch black. They couldn't see more than a foot ahead of them.
"Oh, sorry. What did you ask?"
"Have you divined anything yet?"
"Oh, well, uh," Shawn hurried to make something up, "Well, just that we need to look into Merrygrove's background. Get everything we can. About his ex-wife, about his previous jobs, people he's worked with and for. My senses are telling me that the answer lies somewhere in there."
"Ok, I'll call Chief so she can get started right away."
Juliet took out her phone and began to dial the number when the light from her phone reflected off something that shouldn't be in the forest."
"Wait a second. Jules, get behind me," Shawn said, shoving in front of her, "Who are you."
The body in front of him laughed, "You shouldn't be out here at night, someone could get hurt."
"Who are you?"
"Relax. I'm the Doc's ex-wife. I'm just coming to pick up my child support check."
"Then why are you back here," Shawn asked, reaching behind him to make sure Juliet was safely there.
"The Doc doesn't want any of his patients to see me. So he meets me out here. I'm guessing you guys are some of his patients?"
"Yes."
"You wouldn't happen to know who he is doing his personal counseling with, would you?"
"Yeah, us. Why?"
She laughed, "I just feel sorry for you."
"Why?"
She laughed again.
"Why," Shawn demanded.
"You're going to end up dead."
"Is that a threat," Juliet demanded.
"Haha, chill. I just mean he's going to kill your relationship, like he did ours."
"Looks like someone's bitter," Shawn said in jest.
"Shut it," she snapped, "Why don't you go inside before he get's angry at you."
Knowing his limits of how much danger he could physically stand to put Juliet in, he grabbed on to her and led her back inside away from the lady.
