When I woke up I looked around, noticing that I was lieing on a cot in what looked to be a nurses office. I sat up and hissed in pain, holding my stomach in one hand and my head in the other. "Why do I feel like I swallowed the lake?" I muttered, looking around the room. On the table next to my bed were some hand made cards and I looked at them in confusion as I opened them. They were from Nate, Shane, Jason, Mitchi, and Kaitlyn. I smiled and placed them back down on the table.
I went to stand up and noticed how wet my clothes were. "What the hell?" I asked, pulling at my shirt. "There are some new clothes there on the other table." I heard from behind me. I looked back and tilted my head a bit at Shane, who was leaning against the door frame. "Oh, uh, thanks." I mumbled, starting to walk over but dropped, my knees going out from under me. "Careful there, we dont need you to be out for another day." He stated, chuckling as he helped me up. I blushed and looked at him. "I've been out for a whole day?" He nodded and helped me over to my other clothes.
The clothes that were picked out were a pair of jeans and a red tanktop. I stared at the tanktop and frowned. "I cant wear that." "Why not?" He asked, confused. I bit my lower lip and shrugged. "I have a scar on my shoulder, a bad scar, and I dont like showing it." "Oh Im sure its not that bad." I sighed, grabbed the change of clothes, and went into the bathroom to change. As I changed out of my shirt and into the tank top, I couldnt help but look at the giant reddish purple bruise on my stomach. It was about the size of a football and hurt like hell. I changed and stepped back out into the room.
As I walked back over to the bed I noticed Shane staring at my shoulder. "I told you it was bad." I muttered folding my clothes. Shane shook his head and rubbed the back of his neck. "It isnt that bad but what happened?" I stiffened and stopped folding. "About a year ago I was skateboarding outside and I flew off my board after it hit the curb. I landed on an old, busted bottle." He nodded, and frowned. "How did a broken bottle make that big of a scar?" I shrugged and turned around. "The doctor said that I must have slid a few feet to cause that long of a scar. I have a jacket in my bag though so I can just grab that to wear." I explained, folding the wet clothes into my hands.
I turned back around to look at Shane. "Hey, isn't there supposed to be a bonfire going on right now?" I asked, cocking my head to the side.
"Yup, we can grab your jacket and then we can get over there." He grinned and I could just feel my face growing warmer.
"O-Okay" I stuttered, mentally cursing myself as he led me out to where the cabins were. I quickly grabbed my jacket and pulled it on, placing the cards into the bag before nodding for Shane that we could leave.
"So you can't swim?" He asked through the silent walk. I just shook my head and shrugged.
"I never had a pool at home and I just never had the time to learn" He nodded in understanding and a small smile spread onto his face.
"Want me to teach you?" I looked up at him shocked and shook my head quickly.
"I couldn't impose on you to do that!"
"It wouldn't be a problem. Besides, I like swimming anyways."
I was hesitant but nodded my head and bit my lower lip, glancing over to see him smirking in triumph. All I knew was that this summer wasn't off to such a bad start and if I could spend time with Shane then I think I would be happy.
