Terrible Losses
"THERE'S A BOY CLLIMBING THE BARRICDES!," we heard Joly shout. We ran over to see Marius fretting over a young boy.
"Who's that?," I wondered.
Marius began to sing, "Good God, what are you doing? 'Ponine. Have you no fear?"
Gavroche exclaimed, "That's Eponine! She's been shot!"
Marius continued, "Have you seen my beloved? Why have you come back here?"
Eponine joined in, "Took the letter like you said, I met 'er father at the door. 'e said 'e would give it. I don't think I can stand anymore."
Marius looked confused, "Eponine, what's wrong? There's something wet apon your hair. You're hurt! You need some help, oh God, it's everywhere!"
Eponine assured him, "Don't you fret, Monsuier Marius, I don't feel any pain. A little fall of rain can 'ardly 'urt me now. You're 'ere, that's all I need to know. And you will keep me safe. And you will keep close. And rain will make the flowers grow."
Marius held Eponine, "But you will live, 'Ponine, dear God above, if I could heal your wounds with words of love!"
Eponine requseted, "Just 'old me now, and let it be. Shelter me, comfort me."
Mrius declared to her, "You would live a thousand years if I could show you how. I won't desert you now."
Eponine, growing weaker with each word, continued to sing, "The rain can't 'urt me now. This rain will wash away what's past. And you will keep me safe. And you will keep me close. I'll sleep in your embrace at last. The rain that brings you 'ere is ;eaven blessed. The skies begin to clear, and I'm at rest. A breath away, from where you are. I've come 'ome from so far." She grabbed her abdomen in pain.
She and Marius began to sing in unison, "So don't you fret, Monsueir Marius(Dear Eponine), I(You) don't(won't) feel any pain. A litte fall of rain, can 'ardly 'urt me(you) now."
"I'm here."
"That's all I need to know. And you will keep me safe(I will stay with you), and you will keep me close('till you are sleeping.)"
"And rain..."
"And rain..."
"Will make the flowers..."
"Will make the flowers... grow..." Marius trailed off as the woman who loved him died in his arms. I couldn't hold back my sobs as Gavroche cried beside me.
Enjolras sang softly, "She is the first to fall. The first of us to fall apon this barricade."
Marius responded, "Her name was Eponine. Her life was cold and dark yet she was unafraid."
"We fight here in her name. She will not die in vain. She will not be betrayed," Seraina comforted him. I took Gavroche's hand as Marius took Eponine's body away. He didn't need to see that. We heard shouts of another volunteer, but at that moment, I didn't care.
(Anyoneelseincreadiblysad?)
"Just let it all out, Gav. I'm right 'ere," I soothed as he cried on my sholder.
"Is this 'ow you feel when your parents left you?," he asked between sobs.
I responded, "Of course, although if they were willing to leave me behind, then we didn't 'ave the bond you and Eponine 'ad."
He questioned, "'ow did you deal with it?"
I replied, "I didn't at first. Remember, when you found me, I was crying. But, you and the others gave me a new family, one that cared for me more than my old ever could. I found I was happier with you than anyone else and dixcovered my love for you. If I haddn't met you, I don't think I would have lasted much longer."
By this time, Gavroche had stopped crying and was listining with rapt attention and said, "I saw you and wondered, 'Why is a girl as pretty as 'er crying in the streets?' I knew I 'ad to take you to the Revolutionaries. They were the only ones I trusted enough to 'elp." I nodded, God knows he couldn't have gone to his parents.
I spoke, "I still remember when you saved me from that pathetic execuse of a father. 'onestly, to try that to a nine year old! Talk about no morals."
Gav laughed, "And when you beat Dareth in to the ground yesterday!"
I stated, "Oh,now you laugh? I seem to remember a lot of worring."
"Oh, well, as long as I'm alive, you'll always 'ave someone worrying for you," he chuckled.
"So, forever then?," I asked.
He replied, "Yeah, of course." But he wouldn't meet my eyes.
(So,anyonemissme?)
We went back outside to see the so-called volunteer.
"'ello. Are you the new volunteer?," I asked.
He responded, "Yes, I am. Can you tell me why two children are at a barricade?"
Gav answered, "We wanted to fight. I tried to talk this one out of it, but she's stubborn."
I replied cheekly, "Well, I learned from the best."
He said, "Flattery gets you nowhere." I just laughed at him.
The volunteer spoke up, "Excuse me, but do you know where I can find a boy named Marius?"
I answered with a wave of my hand, "Oh, Marius? I think Enjolras told 'im to go rest somewhere. My guess 'e's inside the cafe."
He responded, "Thank you very much," and walked off.
"Well, 'e's no policeman, that's for sure," I commented. Gav agreed as Enjolras came out of his hiding place.
"Thank you, you two. He may have saved our barricade, but I believe he let Javert go. Probably something I shouldn't worry about...," he trailed off as he walked away.
"Something seems funny. Like something bad's gonna 'appen soon" I spoke.
Gav answered, "I feel it, too. If I were to leave, and even though you said you would follow me, you couldn't go, would you wait for me?"
I replied, shocked he remembered that promise, "Of course. Why wouldn't I? You'd be coming back. Right?"
He didn't look at me, saying, "'ey, Saterine, I'm 'ungry. Let's go into the cafe." He then proceeded to drag me to the cafe. He somewhat pushed me inside as I heard the National Guard coming.
"The troops are on thier way!," I gasped, turning to run through the door... only to run into it.
"Gav?," I called out to him, "This isn't funny! Let me out!"
"I 'ad the person who owns this place lend me the key. This way, I can make sure you make it out of 'ere alive," he breathed out.
"Gav!," I yelled as I banged on the door, "Gav!" I ran up to the top floor where I immediately ran up to the window.
"And little people know
when little people fight,
we may look easy pickings,
but we got some bite!"
A gunshot rang out.
"So never kick a dog,
because 'e's just a pup!"
Another gunshot.
"We'll fight like twenty armies,
and we won't give up!
So you better run for cover
when the pup grows-!"
One final gunshot, and the person I loved was dead.
"GAVROCHE!," I yelled out. I broke out in heartwrenching sobs as the tears fell. I didn't even bother to hear what the others were saying, but I could still see them. I watched as my only friends died one at a time. I cired even harder as I heard the enemy trying to break in. I came back to my senses and climed out the window. I blindly ran until I reached the sewers and hid in there. As I silentlycried, one voice spoke in my head.
"Would you wait for me?"
"Everyday," I answered, knowing he couldn't hear me, "Everyday."
Um, hi? I'M SO SORRY, LIFE GOT IN THE WAY AND I GOT INTO NEW THINGS AND I HAD WRITER'S BLOCK AND I'VE BEEN BUSY OKAY?! I'm back now, that's all that matters. On the Phantom song, I haven't chosen which one or where to put it, so that explains that. Anyway, who expected Saterine to live, but not Gavroche? If you did, have a cookie. Yeah, so everyone's gone. But the story's not over yet! But we are almost done. There's not going to be a sequel, so don't get your hopes up for our favorite gamin to actually be alive.
Justin Law: You killed a child?!
Me: Victor Hugo did it first! Guys, this is Justin Law from Soul Eater. He was graciously given to me by his sister Dawn.(Read The DSM? for the Soul Eater fans who have no idea who Dawn is.)
Justin: I still think I am not a possession to be given away!
Me: Suck it up, Justin. You could have been given to a wild fangirl. Be lucky I asked first. Anyway, to those who review, I will let you hug Gavroche and Saterine.
Saterine: Why me, too?
Me: Did you not see what I just put you through? People are going to want to give you hugs.
Gavroche: I give 'er plenty 'ugs!
Me: AHHHH! You're supposed to be dead!
Gavroche: You wanted me to be here.
Saterine: Gavroche!(*runs up and hugs him*)
Everyone: REVIEW!
