Chapter 2: Two Strangers
It was another day. She tried her best to forget about yesterdays events, but for some reason that was all she could think about. It's not like it was that strange of a day. You know, it was a normal day for Kagome Higurashi, her cat to go missing and some strange yet oddly attractive guy bring him back. Let alone a guy who knew her name? It was creepy, yet exciting.
For a while there, she believed the world was out to get her.
She was believing that more and more lately, only because not even in her own time could she get a break.
Was God ever going to give her a break?
Yeah, right.
That will happen the day Inuyasha decides to not be an asshole, and when Sesshomaru actually says something nice for a change.
"Kagome, are you listening to us?" The three had a worried look on their faces.
Kagome waved her hand in front of her face. "Yeah, uh, just didn't get enough sleep last night. That's all..."
They shrugged their shoulders and continued to chat about school and random boys. No offense to her friends, but they were practically oblivious to everything.
She gripped onto the straps on her book bag and followed closely behind them. Her mind was still drifting off to that boy. There was just something about him that seemed weird, how he knew her name, and how for some odd reason, she couldn't get past the fact that he had this odd aura about him. The idea of him being a demon passed her mind numerous times, but that couldn't be possible. She definitely would have noticed if he was a demon.
Maybe? She saw enough of them to be able to point them out.
She could never sniff out a demon like Inuyasha could, but she could always tell when someone or something wasn't human.
She shook her head. There was no way there was a demon in her time.
Absolutely impossible.
He was the most normal looking guy she ever saw. End of discussion.
Yuri elbowed Kagome in the side, getting a quiet ow to come out of her mouth. "What was that for-"
"Look, it's Hojo!"
"Ho...jo...Hojo?" She scanned the area looking for somewhere to hide, but to no avail. Now she'd have to confront him about yesterday and she didn't even think about an excuse yet. Just great.
Shit. Shit. Shi-
"Kagome, is that you?" his calm voice asked.
She ducked out from behind her friends and gave him a weary smile. "Yep, It's me. Good 'ol Kagome."
He gave her a dumbfounded look. "Are you okay? Don't tell me you're getting sick again? Is that why you didn't show up for our date? I knew I should of called you." He kept rambling on, not even bothering to notice how stunned she looked as he came up with excuses for her.
This guy was a real trick.
"Yeah, I wasn't feeling very good. I should have called. Sorry about that." She kept her eyes glued to the ground, finding the cement side walk a lot more interesting than usual. She was never a good liar, and she for sure thought he would notice.
He smiled at her. He actually smiled at her. Could he really not tell she was lying? "Don't apologize, It's not your fault. You got pin-worms again didn't you? Or do you need new shoes cause of your bunions?" He honestly looked like he was contemplating on getting her more shoes, or asking his mom to get her more shoes. Oh boy. Why does Grandpa have to come up with all these weird diseases!
"I'm fine, really."
"If you say so, Kagome. What are you doing tomorrow?" He's persistent, that's for sure.
"Tomorrow, well," she slowly quit talking as her eyes settled on a familiar man who walked by them. That red hair stood out like a sore thumb. "You know what, I gotta go, call me or something." She waved goodbye and sped off, her friends just blinking as they watched her disappear into the crowds of people.
She pushed through hundreds of people as she tried to keep up with him. It looked like he was just gliding through the crowds of people, making it look easy. Too easy, kind of like he wasn't really there, or that the people weren't really there.
She followed him to ally where he finally stopped.
"Hey, you!" Good going, Kagome. That's a real good way to get someones attention.
He ignored her. His back was still turned and he made no move to acknowledge her presence.
She crossed her arms and huffed, clearly annoyed. "Hel-lo! Yoo-hoo, right here!" Maybe she didn't have the right guy. But then again, not a lot of people even remotely resembled this guy.
He slowly turned around, smiling that same smile as before.
If she wanted answers from him she'd had to be really sly about it without being too direct. She thought for a moment before speaking," How do you know my name?"
Real smooth.
"I know a lot more than your name."
"That's kind of creepy, you know." She was on a ball today, there was no way he'd tell her anything at this rate. Nope. Not going to happen.
"We need your help."
She looked around confused. "Whose we? And what do you think that I can do that no one else can, huh?"
For a moment, his smile faded. "You really don't know, do you?"
"No, I don't. You could always, you know, tell me what's going on? I don't even know you and you think I can help you? This is all a little too weird for me." She started taking a few steps back.
The young man glanced up, a black figure jumped down from god-knows-where and landed next to him. He was short with black hair and white highlights in the front. Just what she needed, another person to come around and make things more confusing. She needed to get out, and fast.
"Hnn. This is her?" His cold voice reminded her a little bit of Sesshomaru's. "She looks weak."
"Looks can be deceiving," the red haired youth spoke.
"Yeah, I doubt that."
She didn't like this guy already. Saying she was weak when he didn't even know her. Since he arrived she got this feeling that she got when youkai were around. But that couldn't be, these two looked human. "Okay, what's going on here? One of you was bad enough, now two?"
They completely ignored her. "I guess if this is the girl we should get her and get going, don't you think?"
The red head shook his head. "We can't yet, it's our orders."
"We're going to follow them?" The shorter one seemed surprised and a little annoyed at the others choice. The taller one nodded, took one last look at the girl, and jumped over the brick wall behind them.
There was no way these two were normal humans; she knew that.
The shorter one smirked. "This is only the beginning." Like his companion, he jumped over the wall.
She stared in amazement, her eyes not moving from where they stood. Maybe she was just imagining everything and by tomorrow this would all be a dream.
It's been a couple days since the event in the ally, and since then she hasn't seen either of them. It could have all been a dream, but she highly doubted that. Then again, not seeing either of them for a few days could prove she's going crazy.
She rested her head on her palm as she continued to study for her math test. If she kept thinking, nothing was ever going to get done and she was going to fail Math. There were a couple things in life she couldn't afford, and failing Math was one of them.
She banged her head on her desk.
This studying thing wasn't going too well. It wasn't helping that Souta was running around the house chasing Buyo, either.
"That's it." She closed her book. "I need to go for a walk."
She quickly dressed into sweat pants and a normal white t-shirt. It wasn't dark out yet, so she had a little bit of time.
"Hey mom, I'm going to go for a..." She stopped mid-sentence, not believing the scene in front of her. There stood the last two people she ever expected to see. Actually, the last two people she ever expected to see in her kitchen in her house. "Walk..."
"Don't look so surprised, honey. Didn't they tell you they were stopping by?" Her mom asked, smiling sweetly a the two boys. "They are handsome, aren't they?"
Her eyebrow twitched. If only her mother knew.
This was not good and she knew it.
Whatever they wanted her for should involve only her, they should not get her family involved too.
"Real handsome." She took in a deep breath. What the hell was going on and who do they think they are? "Let's go outside, I was just about to go for a walk. Want to come, guys?" It took everything in her to not start yelling at them. She couldn't do this fake act for long.
"Good idea." The red haired one got up first, then the smaller one followed behind.
"Have a good time, don't stay out too late, Kagome." You could hear her mom giggle. She was glad to know her mom still had good taste in men, but really?
As soon as they got outside she yelled. "What are you two doing? Who are you really?"
The black haired one began to speak, but the other one cut him off. "Hiei, let me handle this."
"Hnn," the one known as Hiei spoke.
"My name is Kurama, and this is Hiei. You have two choices, so listen carefully."
She merely stared at them, waiting.
yep. this chapter is el fin.
