Chapter 3: Something You Can't Refuse
"And they are?" She was growing impatient. The two in front of her suddenly stopped paying attention to her, their eyes darting around, scanning the area around them. As if they were staring at something she couldn't see.
"Hiei, do you hear that?" Kurama asked, running his hand through his silky red hair, stopping at the rose by his ear.
He merely nodded.
They were right about something; Kagome could feel something very powerful headed towards them. She couldn't see anything out of the ordinary, but she could feel it. As if on cue, the ground around them started to shake, and appearing from the shrine steps was a tall, black creature. Behind it followed many more of the same black creatures. They had horns popping out of their heads with sharp nails protruding from the fingers.
This couldn't be happening. They looked like demons.
In her time.
Was that even possible?
More and more were starting to form from the ground up. They opened their mouths to let out a small ear piercing scream. Slowly, kind of like slugs, they came up the steps.
"What are these, these things?" she questioned, her voice barely audible.
"We don't have time to explain now." Hiei whipped out his sword and jumped ahead, beheading three of them in one quick swoop. Just as fast as he took them down, the black gooey flesh reformed into a head on top of the demon's shoulders like nothing ever happened.
She could only stare in awe. Of course she was use to this kind of stuff, but there was so many questions going through her mind she couldn't comprehend anything at the moment. All she did know was that there were officially youkai in her time, and she had to get them away from her family's house. Fast.
Kurama took the rose out from his hair and it transformed into a whip of thorns. He cut a path through the demons, motioning for them to follow.
They flew down the shrine steps, only to come across more youkai. These ones looked bigger, stronger, and had more in numbers.
"Where are they all coming from?" she yelled, hoping one of the two could answer her.
The red haired male shook his head. "I'm not sure, exactly." His whip sliced through two more youkai, sending their body parts flying as they disintegrated in thin air. "But we can't stay here, it's too risky."
She thought for a moment. This was her time, and there had to be a safe place somewhere, if only she could think of where, exactly. "I got it!"
Hiei looked at her, a slightly confused look on his face. "Got what, exactly?"
"A place to hide."
The two looked at each other, nodded, and followed the teenage girl. She led them through the streets and farther into the city. The youkai seemed to slim down in numbers the farther in they got, until they were completely gone.
The few people they did pass by didn't even seem to notice the youkai. And the youkai didn't even seem to notice them.
She led them to the city's playground. It was night time and not one person was around.
The perfect place to talk and get some answers.
She hopped up on the top of the slide and sat down, Kurama and Hiei decided to lean against the giant elephant slide a few feet away.
"I want some answers. Now." She crossed her arms over her chest and stared at the two. It was eerily quiet, neither of them speaking. The only noise that could be heard was the blowing of the wind as it swayed the leaves of the trees.
Kurama was the first to speak. His voice was quiet, but audible," You are a Miko. I can sense it."
That wasn't something she was expecting to hear. "How can you tell? Wait..." She didn't know how she couldn't tell before. Or maybe all the events that happened left her mind completely useless. That wasn't much of a surprise.
"You two are demons... no wonder I felt something odd earlier." She gulped. Great. Demons. "What could you possibly want with me?"
She was debating on telling them she could probably purify them if she wanted to, but without her bow and arrow, maybe that wasn't such a smart idea. She didn't even know if they were good or bad demons yet, so she'd have to hold on to that threat for later use.
"You can see the demons running around in your world, you're not a normal human," he paused, his eyes roaming the area before continuing," and no one else can. You can purify them, correct?"
She sighed. There went that threat for later use.
Obviously Kurama was explaining this a little too slow for Hiei's liking, as he jumped in. "You have two choices. Help us out, and nothing bad will happen to your world. Don't help us, and I can't promise this world will be safe. Or that Well."
She gasped. "How do you know about that?"
Hiei smirked at that. "That's our little secret."
None of this was making sense, and she was getting pretty angry at the situation. "What do you think I can do?"
"Something's controlling them. You're a miko, you can find him for us."
"And what do I get out of all of this?" She wanted to know who this 'him' was, and she didn't even know how she could 'find' anything. She was a Miko, she didn't have whatever powers they thought she had. They were demons after all, couldn't they just destroy whatever it was?
"Something you can't refuse."
Cause that told her anything. She really wished she was with Inuyasha right now.
"Fine, what do I have to do?"
Very confusing, I know. But what they want Kagome to find will be surprising. It has to do with them and their world or whatever, you'll see.
