Edit: The ending to this chapter has been changed because the other one sucked.
Disclaimer: I don't own Danny Phantom or anything in the Marvel Universe.
Downtown Amity Park was the most hectic part of the entire city, probably the entire county. There were many tall skyscrapers many of whom had televisions to advertise one product or another. Most people in Amity Park depended on this area for their job and economic satisfaction.
Everything wasn't perfect though. There seemed to be a thinly veiled secret amongst the commuters. All were familiar with their fair share of specters, some were even unlucky enough to be attacked by them, but none spoke of them. Even after the entire area was cleared by SHIELD and opened up once again to commuters, the subject of ghosts was considered a taboo that no one ever freely spoke about.
Just because something is no longer spoken of, doesn't mean it no longer exists though. That is a lesson that downtown Amity Park would be forced to learn.
"Get back here, Skulker!" Danny shouted, all the while firing ectoblasts and the hunter's retreating form.
Skulker just laughed and turned intangible so the ectoblasts would go through him. "Come on, whelp. You can do better than that."
Unbeknownst to Danny, those ectoblasts kept going and collided with a nearby parking garage, causing the roof to cave in on itself.
Skulker pressed a button on his left arm and watched as it turned into an ectoblast launcher. This will do nicely, he thought as he aimed the launcher at Danny and fired. The shot easily connected with the halfa and released a huge explosion of gaseous ectoplasm, completely destroying the street.
Skulker began walking through the debris in search of the halfa. It was hard though since ever once of the block was now covered in rock. He may have gone a little overboard with that. The whelp wasn't supposed to die after all, just tire out and be weak for SHIELD to take him away. The hunter moved a piece of rock from his path and immediately got hit by a glowing green fist.
"Ah!" he screamed as he fell to the ground.
"I'm not dying that easily, Skulker!" Danny quickly said as he fired two ectodiscs with his left hand that barely missed Skulker and crashed into a nearby building.
Skulker smirked. The whelp got a lucky hit. He produced such destructive power but no self control. Too bad, Skulker was really starting to enjoy their hunts.
The hunter was about to take off back into the sky to continue the chase, when something odd happened. Danny created a blue ball in his hands and launched it at Skulker. The hunter forgot to dodge and instead watched it in amazement right before it slammed into the right side of his body, freezing it solid.
The whelp can fire ice blasts?! Skulker though while trying to break out of the ice, but it was too late. Danny already launched two more ectodiscs and started charging at him, no doubt to get physical. One of the discs sliced through Skulker's left arm while the other one went too high and collided with a building. Luckily, the building still remained intact. Skulker wasn't as lucky though. Going at over 100 mph Danny's knee connected with the head of Skulker and sent him flying throughout the downtown area until he crashed into a skyscraper and brought the building down on him.
Smoke enveloped the entire area making it hard for Danny to see. He trudged on though, because he had to finish Skulker off once and for all. This time the hunter went too far. Danny watched as Skulker pulled a piece of concrete off of him and tried to stand up to no avail. There were holes all over his metal armor with wires popping out and releasing little bits of electricity.
Skulker noticed Danny staring and held his side. "Whelp," he muttered. He then gave the halfa a toothy grin. "You have lost Danny Phantom! I have finally beaten you!" A blade appeared on Skulker's right arm and he stuck in the ground. He then out his weight on it as he slowly got back on his feet. As he did this, he began coughing up ectoplasm but chose to ignore it. "Goodbye, Danny Phantom!" he shouted as he charged towards the startled halfa. He never planned on making it to his target though. He knew he was going to die. His eject button was damaged from the impact with the skyscraper and Danny was out for Skulker's life, so he had to go down with the metaphorical ship. It was only the most honorable of deaths for him.
Danny didn't even flinch as the hunter drew closer, he only took in a deep breath and unleashed his most powerful attack, the ghostly wail.
Green ways came out of Danny's mouth and slammed into not only Skulker's suit, but the surrounding area too. Buildings began to crumble all around Skulker and pieces and parts were flung through the air at high speeds, destroying anything they slammed into. The hunter tried to fight it the best he could, but realizing his fate, he released all tension and let the waves take him too.
Bang!
He slammed into one buildings but tore right through and and hit another. Every part of his body was in agony as his suit fell to pieces right next to him.
"Everything is going according to plan." he heard his lord say through his earpiece before it too broke. Skulker uses the last of his strength to turn his head to the side and saw the debris field wasteland in his wake. No building was left standing. It looked like a nuke went off in the city. In a way a nuke did go off in the city, just in the form of Danny Phantom. What have I done! He thought. The halfa has too much uncontrollable power! He will be the death of life everywhere! Skulker wasn't able to get another thought in because a piece of concrete tore off of a nearby building and came crashing down on his body.
Danny's wail didn't relent though. It actually grew even stronger. Encompassing more of the downtown area and obliterating anything in it's wake. The only things standing being a few skyscrapers severely stripped of most of their material.
Eventually his wail began to die down though, but a new enemy could be heard in the distance. The thump of their helicopters actually becoming louder than the deafening scream coming from Danny's wail. Luckily, the choppers came in from behind Danny and didn't have to deal with the harsh power of his wail.
The halfa fell to the ground panting as he tried to regain some strength. He didn't expect his wail to take so much energy. Then again, he didn't expect his wail to all but overpower him. He got back on his feet and turned to face the helicopters just in time for one of the aircraft to open up its cargo hold, showing an African American man with an eye patch and a bull horn.
Wait, I know him from somewhere, Danny thought while trying to squint his eyes to get a better look of the man. He's that Fury guy, the leader of SHIELD!
Danny looked at all the other helicopters and noticed a reoccurring insignia on them all, a black and white bird inside a circle, in other words, the insignia for SHIELD
"Phantom," the man said using his bullhorn to speak, "Surrender immediately! You are wanted for questioning!"
Danny did the same anything any ordinary man wanted for questioning by a secret international government organization would and ran away. The helicopters were right behind though, and began launching their missiles at Danny who just turned intangible and kept flying. He spotted a large building in the distance and a thought came to his mind. If I can find a place to hide, then I can just change back to Fenton and be fine!
Danny tried to turn around and fire an ectoblast just to scatter the helicopters, but his shoulder began acting up and he was forced to lose his intangibility and pick up his pace to avoid yet another missile. Damn shoulder chooses the worst times!
After a couple more close calls with the missiles, Danny finally reached his safe haven. The building was so close to him. He just had to quickly go through the wall and change into his human form and SHIELD would leave him alone. He would still have some questions to face, but that was nothing compared to what he would get as Phantom. He was finally safe.
Fury slammed his fist against the wall of the helicopter. "Damn it!"
"Sir?" his lieutenant called to him over his earpiece. "What are we going to do? If Phantom gets into that building, we will lose our line of sight and he can escape!"
"You think I don't know that?! We're going to have to trap him in there. Force him to stay put somehow."
There was a pause as Maria hesitated to speak. "Well your helicopters are equipped with ectoranium missiles, and they have proved very effective against ghosts during infiltrations."
That could prove effective, Fury thought. That should be able to buy us enough time to enter the building and capture him before he can escape. Fury looked through one of the windows on the building and saw some pedestrians as they went on with their run of the mill lives. "It won't hurt any innocents, right?"
"At most the missile will take out a good chunk of the building. It should still be stable enough to stand, and the people inside will be relatively unaffected if they stand away from the wall.
Phantom suddenly turned intangible and went through the building's wall right in front of the director's eyes.
Fury's anxiousness almost got out, but he was able to suppress it and instead remained calm. "Okay, fire the missile."
Woosh!
A dark green missile left the helicopter to the right of Fury and punched a hole through the wall. A second later, screams of agony started up on the other side. It was a hit!
"Land these transports and deploy our soldiers! Phantom is going down!" Fury shouted into his earpiece. The end phase had finally begun.
Fred Sherman was just your everyday IT guy. He was the person you would call when you accidentally downloaded a virus onto your computer, or the motherboard was fried. He was NOT the person you would call when you were injured. So imagine his surprise when he heard a loud crash coming from a nearby wall and then nonstop earsplitting screams.
He immediately jumped out of his seat and tried to trace where those screams were coming from to no avail. Is someone on this floor? I'm supposed to be the only one in today. He reached over to the intercom and pressed a button. "I'm in need of security on the 4th floor, the IT department." the screams got even louder and Fred had no doubt that they could be heard over the intercom. "Also, call the paramedics."
Fred let go of the button and quickly ran down a hall to find the source of all the screaming. He turned around a corner and heard them get even louder. Eventually he came across a locked closet which seemed to be the origin of the screams. With his hands shaking, he began digging around in his pockets, trying to find the key to the door.
"Fred, Fred!" someone shouted from behind. He turned around to see Annabelle, an accountant he was so used to seeing because her computer was always broken. She had a problem with downloading everything she came across on the internet.
"There are men downstairs with guns!" she said while nervously looking down the flight of stairs she just ran up. "They are heading up here to take whatever is in that closet. I think they are a part of SHIELD."
Didn't that mean that whatever was in the closet was a ghost, in other words, dead? As if answering his question, the screams were raised to a deafening level as Fred had to plug his ears for fear of them being damaged. If this being can feel pain like thatthen in must be alive!
The tech inserted his key into the lock and ran into the closet. Annabelle closely followed from behind.
On the ground laid Danny Phantom, shriveled up into a ball with eyes closed as he let out another scream of pain. To the ghost's left was a small little machine emitting a green electricity and shooting it at the ghost.
"Oh my god, it's Invis-O-Bill!" Annabelle cried out.
Footsteps could be heard coming from the stairs along with shouting. The armed men were quickly closing in on them and they didn't sound happy.
Fred, still eyeing Phantom, began speaking. "Annabelle, do your best to stall the guards, barricade the door, distract them, just anything to buy me some time to treat Phantom. Those men must really be a part of SHIELD and are here to capture him."
"O-Okay, I'll do my best." Annabelle said before running off in search of supplies to barricade the exit to the stairs.
Fred looked at the machine letting out all that electricity. You should be the first thing I take care of. Pounding came from the locked stairway door as the soldiers began slamming into it. Shit! I don't have much time! Without thinking, Fred grabbed a hold of Phantom's jumpsuit and began pulling him away from the machine. He was expecting to get a huge jolt of electricity, but was pleasantly surprised when none came none came, almost like it didn't effect him.
He reached onto one of the shelves in the closet, grabbed the first aid kit, and approached Phantom. The ghost was still shriveled up in a ball with bits of smoke rising off of his body. Okay, where does he look the most hurt?
Before he could do anything, the door to the stairs relented under all the slamming and broke off its hinges. Armed soldiers began pouring into the entire level with several raising their weapons at Fred and Annabelle. "Freeze!" several of them shouted. Others began yelling "Get on the ground!"
Without much choice in the matter, Fred and Annabelle dropped to the floor.
"We have Phantom, sir." one of the soldiers said into most likely their earpiece. "We also have some civilians. What do you want us to do with them...Yes, sir."
The soldier, most likely the commanding officer, grabbed several men and pointed at the two civilians. The soldiers surrounded the civilians and threw on some handcuffs. "Sorry, but we don't want you interfering with SHIELD business."
Another soldier knelt down and starting taking Phantom's vitals. "Sir, he is weak enough for transport."
The commander grinned and leaned against the wall next to the stairs. " Sorry, that trip just took a lot out of me. Alright, I want two teams on Phantom. Start loading him up into the transport." the commander began walking away but stopped when he noticed Fred thrashing about.
"No! You can't do that! Phantom has only done good for this city! You can't just lock him up."
The officer let out a cold hearted laugh. "Tell that to the neighborhood he just destroyed."
Fred struggled more with his captors and even broke free to charge the man but was immediately tackled by more guards.
"That's it. You two are under arrest!" the officer shouted.
"But I didn't do anything!" Annabelle protested.
The officer gave a smirk. "I don't care. You just knowingly conspired against SHIELD forces by protecting Phantom."
Annabelle was about to protest some more, when she was pushed by her guard. "Shut it," he mumbled
She didn't bother to say anything else. All hope was already lost.
The scene that has been in my mind since the beginning of this story has finally been completed. So what does everyone think of the new, and hopefully improved, ending?
Reviews (changed):
Inviso-Al: SHIELD is going to throw a going away party for Skulker. Aren't they so nice?
SnowMiko: I don't know what you're reading but that building definitely didn't blow up. Nope, not at all. I am not trying to hide my sad excuse for an ending. Lies! My parody idea isn't twisted, just a little strange. I may actually do it after SHIELD Law is finished (Spoiler alert: This story ends.)
Midnight Bloom: Nope, Amity Park will throw SHIELD a party and even the ghosts are invited. So much partying going around. Everyone must be in a nice mood or something.
