I have got to work on updating more than once a year! That being said, this last year was hectic for me. I was finishing my college degree…which meant for the last year I was working part time (20 ish hours a week), taking college classes (15 credits over 2 days), and working through an free internship (4 days a week that were not my part time job). I didn't have time to sleep, let alone even think about writing a single thing.
As always, please review, you know that those keep me going! I still reread every one of my reviews before starting a new chapter of a story. These help me know that it's wanted. The more I get, the move motivated it am to write! That's just how it works for me! ^-^

A Pharaoh's Slave (The 1st of the Pharaoh's Pet series) – Part 3
Tala sighed, enjoying the desert suns heat on his body. Though taking naps in Bryan's indoor sun room was great, it was nothing like being able to lay in the direct lights rays, soaking in the real warmth, and most of all, he got to enjoy the company of his favorite people.
Tala opened one eye, looking over towards his master and his master's cousin. The two were sitting not too far from where Tala had laid out on the royal gardens grass. The two were talking, and Tala had no doubt that the two were commenting on him and his current napping companion. Said companion happened to be the newest friend of the red head, and he was quick happy to find that the other enjoyed napping in the sun as much as himself.
Tala opened his other eye, looking towards the younger boy next to him. Rei, the small Neko-Jin that he had can to care about in the last few days, was stretched out on his stomach next to Tala. Bryan had suggested that Rei may enjoy some fresh air and that the outdoors could do him some good. Tala had quickly backed this up, mainly because he would willing support anything that lead to a warm afternoon nap.
Rei had been ecstatic to the idea once he realized what it was that they were doing. He had just about wiggled out of Kai's arms trying to get down. The black haired boy had light up as bright as the sun shining down on them when he had been placed on the ground, gold eyes lighting up in a way that the other three had never seen. He had fallen back, arms spread wide at his sides, and actually gave a heart full sigh. Tala had joined in as soon as he had heard it, plopping down next to the other. The grin had stayed on Rei's face the whole time that Tala sat and took up Kai's habit of talking to him.
The smile was still on the others young face.
Tala rolled over, pushing himself up tight against the other, no matter if it was almost too hot outside to be in contact with another's body. He just couldn't help it. He was finding himself coming to care for the younger boy as much as he did the two sitting not too far from them, most likely still talking about them. Tala grinned. He could get used to having a napping partner.
"He looks better than the last time I saw him."
Tala opened his eye, glaring at the shadow that was being casted over him and Rei. "What do you want General?"
"Karsin, leave them to their nap please. I would prefer if you didn't wake Rei up." Kai called the General over to him. Karsin laughed lightly, nodding once. "What do you need?"
"Nothing much, just wished to check on our guest. How is he doing?" Karsin stepped forward towards the two nobles. As he moved, a smaller male standing behind him became visible. This male, which he was even if he was wearing a pale red gown, followed Karsin quickly, purple eyes down cast, mostly hidden behind misty silver bangs. His hair was tied back in a simple braid today, reading around his mid back.
"Luka. How are you?" Kai asked, for the moment choosing to not answer his generals question to greet said general's life partner.
Luka looked up, a small smile gracing his features. "I am well My Pharaoh. Thank you for asking."
"You're welcome. I see you have been helping in the kitchen again." Kai's eyes moved down that gown, which was dusted lightly with flour. "Baking?"
"Yes. I hope that is alright?" Luka's high cheek bones became dusted in red.
"Of course." Kai turned his attention back to Karsin, grinning at the look of gratitude on the older man's face. Karsin was always thankful when anyone gave Luka positive attention. This was perhaps one of the reasons that Kai found himself always doing so, well, besides the fact that he did enjoy Luka's company. Luka was quiet and seem to give off an air of calm. Kai found this rather refreshing after a day of dealing with diplomats. "Rei is doing better Karsin. Though you could tell that by looking at him, couldn't you?"
"It's good to see that he is trusting."
"He has a strange liking for Tala." Kai shrugged. "A joint love for napping maybe?" Kai was teasing him, Tala knew this. Tala responded by rolling over more and throwing an arm around Rei. Rei started to shake at that, which made Tala sit up quickly, looking the other over.
"Rei? Hey, you okay?" Tala reach out towards the other, not proud to say that his hand was shaking slightly. He had not meant to upset the other boy. Rei turned his face towards Tala, eyes shinning, his giggles no longer hidden. Tala found himself laughing alongside the other boy. "Don't do that."
"What?" Rei pushed himself up, sitting back on his knees. He turned his attention towards Kai first, then looked at the others that had gathered. "Pharaoh Kai?"
"Yes cat?" Kai turned his attention towards Rei again. His eyes widened slightly when his red eyes met those golden ones. Rei, though he was sitting calmly and showed no outward signs, was terrified. "It's alright. Karsin and Luka are friends." Rei still didn't look certain, physically moving closer to Tala. Kai found himself becoming more resolved to protect the smaller boy.
"Rei." Tala reach out, running his hand through those black locks. Rei's eyes half closed, but never took them off the two new comers. "Luka can braid your hair."
Rei's eyes darted to Tala, then back to the others. Luka nodded his consent, taking a step towards to two. Rei's eyes went from being half closed to all the way open, a hiss leaving his lips. Luka gasped, taking a step back from them, ducking under Karsin's arm to put the general between them. Karsin gritted his teeth, looking towards Kai. The other three did not seem to be surprised by the response.
"He doesn't like people." Kai supplied. "He's getting better."
Bryan stood then, walking past the couple, hand brushing through Luka's hair on the way. "Don't take it personally kid." He met Tala's eyes, and sighed. Now he had done something to upset his personal slave. Tala stood, moving towards him, the two meeting just two steps from Rei. Tala stepped into Bryan's personal space, allowing Bryan to hold him full on, something he didn't do often, not even when the two were in private. "Tal?"
"It's nothing. Just…it's nothing." Tala shook his head. "Think I've had enough sun for today." He pulled back from Bryan, giving him that half smile-half smirk he was known for. He then turned towards Rei, looking him over. "Think he's had enough as well. He's looking a little flushed."
Bryan nodded, his attention still on his personal slave. He took a large step forward, reaching down for the Neko-Jin. Rei gave a low growl, shifting his weight. Bryan raised an eyebrow at Rei, then reach farther forward. He was met with a sharp resistance though, as Rei took a swing at him, claws leaving four jagged cuts on his arm.
"Bryan!" Tala grabbed Bryan, pulling him back to where he stood. "What are you thinking? You can't just grab him!"
Kai stood quickly, moving quickly over towards the other two, passing Karsin and Luka with only a small glance. Luka was pale, hiding against the general's side, Karsin soothing the baker. The two were not the ones that Kai was concerned about at the moment. Honestly, he was only mildly worried about his cousin. It was his cousin's temper, the gut reaction he would have to retaliate against Rei that worried him. Kai and Tala were making very good progress with the younger boy, and that could be all undone in a split second.
"Fuck." Bryan cursed, looking down at his arm with Tala. "That's going to need stitches." He looked back over at Rei. Rei was crotched, arms raised in a defensive jester. "You're a quick one, I'll give you that." Bryan, for the first time, saw a warrior in that small body. He could come to respect this boy, but most of all, Bryan knew in that moment that he would come to want to protect this boy like he did Tala and Kai. He always did like them with a little bite. "Guess we will keep you after all."
"Bryan!" Tala and Kai snapped at him. "You can't just decide that!" "You do not get to keep him!"
"Okay?" A small voice broke in. Everyone's attention turned back to the black haired boy.
"Yeah Tiger, Bryan's going to be fine. He's tough." Tala sent the boy a reassuring smile then. Rei placed his hands on the ground, forcing himself into a standing position. Kai took a quick step forward, hand outstretched. Rei had not stood the entire time he had been living with Kai, and Kai worried that he would just topple over. Rei did wobble, but he seemed fine once he got his balance. Kai lowered his arm, eyes looking the small body over. He had known that Rei was small, but he hadn't realized how small. The boy didn't quite reach his shoulders, body still almost bone skinny. His hair though, it was longer that Kai had though, the ends of it brushing the ground behind him.
"Sorry." Rei took a hesitant step forward, as if not sure he would keep his balance. Once that one was safe, he took another, placing him right in front of Bryan and Tala. He looked tiny standing there. Tala was only an inch or two taller than Kai, but Bryan towered over both of them, they reach about his shoulders. Bryan truly towered over Rei though, as Rei was lucky to reach mid chest on the lavender haired man.
"It's alright Kitten." Bryan told him, shrugging. He let his arm fall down by his side, not caring that it caused blood to run down his fingers, looking down at the top of the black head. "Should you be standing?"
Rei looked up at him, then down at his arm. He looked towards Tala's shoulder, then back to Bryan's arm. His eyes darted to meet Tala's eyes. "Together?"
"Me and Bry?" Tala looked up into silver eyes. "Yeah. We kind of are." Tala grinned at Rei, pointing at the blue mark on his neck. "Says so right here."
Rei's eyes darted down to the blue mark, then up to Bryan's eyes. Rei reach out, cool sun kissed fingers touching Bryan's arm just above the scratches. Rei wrapped his hand around the muscle there as best as he could, then pulled. Bryan let Rei pull his arm up, watching as the boys other hand came up to wrap just below the marks. Rei leaned in, small pink tong darting out. Tala's quick reflexes were the only thing that keep Bryan from pulling his arm back, as Tala placed a hand on his elbow, keeping his arm there. "Bryan." Bryan looked down into blue eyes, nodding. He allowed for the Neko-Jin to lick the four wounds, not pulling back till Rei released his arm.
"Better." Rei told him, rubbing at his chin, which Bryan realized as smeared with his own blood. Rei turned then, looking over at Kai. "Bed?"
"Um. Yeah." Kai took a step towards the small group. He laid an arm around small shoulders, then swooped down, lifting Rei off the ground with little effort. "Get that looked at."
He turned, heading back towards his room. Rei shifted slightly in his arm, nose finding a place under his jaw. Rei started to vibrate slightly, letting out a slight sound. Kai stopped walking, looking down at his charge, blinking. Rei opened gold eyes part way, looking up at him. Rei never stopped purring.
Kai continued on to his room, surprised by this new sound being admitted by the Neko-Jin. Every day, Kai noticed more things that made Rei cat like. He found himself being more and more intrigued by the other. It was getting to the point that Kai new that Rei would be staying at his side. He was already starting to play with the idea of making Rei his Personal Slave.
A thought that Bryan and Tala were encouraging.
Kai found that he liked the idea. If having a Personal Slave meant having a relationship like Bryan and Tala's, then Kai found that he would give anything for that. The thought that it could be with this amazing creature in his arms, Kai didn't want to even know what it meant exactly. He just knew that he wanted it more than he had ever wanted anything.
"Pharaoh Kai?" Rei called, allowing Kai to settle him on the bed. "You sleep?"
"Yes, I sleep. I sleep in the other room." Kai found himself sitting on the edge of his own bed, which was becoming more and more Rei's as the days went by. "You need the bed while you are healing."
"Oh." Rei shifted than, moving over slightly. Kai stood, figuring that Rei was becoming uncomfortable with the close contact. Though Rei really was getting better at having Kai or Tala close, he didn't seem to enjoy or welcome prolonged contact with either of them. "Pharaoh Kai?"
Kai paused, looking into gold eyes.
"Yeah." He sat back down on the edge of the bed. Rei reach out, pulling lightly on his arm. Kai blinked, looking at Rei had done. Rei had moved over-not out of fear or being uncomfortable, but so that there was room for Kai to join him on the bed. Kai felt himself flush slightly, for the first time in years. He wasn't even sure what was causing his body to react that way. "Are you sure?"
"Yes. Sure." Rei nodded his head, pulling on Kai's arm again. Kai shifted, turning so that he could take up the vacated spot, back against the slack of pillows. He had almost forgotten how nice a bed was.
Rei shifted around, curling up against his side, tucking himself up under Kai's arm, head finding a place against his side. Kai could feel a sweat breaking out already, the temperature really too warm for prolonged physical contact. He couldn't bring himself to pull away from the Neko-Jin though, not when the low purring started again. He found that that sound was very nice.
"Guess we didn't need to check on them after all." Bryan's voice caused Kai to jerk, eyes snapping open. He wasn't sure when his eyes had slid shut in the first place, let alone how he had managed to fall into a light doze sitting that close to Rei's body heat. Rei also jerked next to him, a growl emitting from his throat.
"Ah, don't be that way Kitten." Tala cut in, using Bryan's new nickname for the younger boy. "We mean no harm."
"That's still debatable." Kai commented, shifting on the bed, sneaking away from Rei slightly. It was good that Rei was showing such trust in him, but his shirt was stuck to him from the sweat drenching through it. Rei whined though, high pitched and scared sounding. Kai sighed, settling back down in his previous spot. He was starting to wonder who the master was in this relationship. "How are you?"
"I'm fine. They needed a few stiches. Healer said it doesn't look like the scratches are in danger of becoming infected. Wanted to know what I cleaned it with." Bryan looked sideways at Tala.
"I figure he's got something in his saliva." Tala put in. "They said something similar about my shoulder. If I kept it clean, it would be fine as it was."
"Well, that is good to hear none the less. You didn't tell them that it was Rei?" Kai questions, getting negatives from both. He wasn't so worried that they would become violent towards Rei for hurting the two before him, but that they would want to test what was in his saliva. That didn't sit well with Kai. "Well, at least you two have matching battle scars."
"We do!" Tala grinned. "Isn't it great? All that's left if for you to get a set as well. Then Rei will have marked us all as his."
"Don't be strange Red." Kai looked down at the body leaning against his side. Rei had gone back to sleep some time during the exchange. That was fine by Kai, the warm weight comforting in a way. "I've decided to keep Rei. Not just here at the palace, but with me personally."
"He'll make a great Personal Slave." Tala told him then. "Just want a Personal Slave should be like."
"I'm not sure you are the best judge of that." Bryan commented. Tala had never been normal, and thus their relationship had never been within the social norms as well.
"I think I am the perfect judge for it." Tala shot back, looking over at Bryan out of the corner of his eye. Bryan looked a little pale. "Let's retire for the night."
"If you're tired." Bryan agreed, turning his attention back towards Kai. "See you in the morning."
"Night." Kai replied to them. The two turned, heading out of his sleeping chamber. He looked back down at Rei. "Well Rei, we have their support at least." Kai relaxed back against the pillows, letting Rei's purrs loll him back to sleep.
I know, I know. Not what you were expecting. You all thought I would explain how Rei became the scribe in this chapter. It was SUPPOSED to be about that, but alas. Bryan felt that he needed to do some bonding with Rei and then Kai felt left out….so yeah.
As of this moment, I don't know if I plan to add on a chapter about how Rei become the scribe, or leave it there. He has gone from a slave to Kai's Personal Slave, which is really what this story was about in the first place. Perhaps I will (If you want) or I will come back to it later during the last installment of Pharaoh's Pet (Pharaoh's Consort) as a flashback/memory. I would love you hear your opinion on it! For not though, I'm going to mark the story complete (pending reviews).
As always, REVIEW! I need, I crave, I live for the feedback!
