"So…"
"So…"
"Hey, I was wondering if you could grab a quick bite with me." Percy asked shyly. It was almost like asking her out.
"Um… sounds great. Sure! Where?" Annabeth answered timidly. It was almost like she was being asked out.
"How about the Demi-Burger down town?" Percy said quietly, moving closer.
"Awesome-sauce." Annabeth said almost in a whispers, moving closer.
"PERRRCYYY! Thalia hit me again!"
"YOU DESERVED IT YOU LITTLE SHIZ."
Annabeth and Percy chuckled, but their eyes on each other the whole time.
Percy went to change and then sent Nico and Thalia home. Annabeth rode shotgun in the car. Nico and Thalia were arguing the whole way back, exchanging jabs at one another.
When they finally left, the car was really quiet.
"It's quiet." Annabeth said, breaking the silence.
Percy nodded and turned the radio on. But they still didn't talk until they got to the fast food chain.
"So… what would you like? I'll pay." Annabeth said.
"No, I'll pay Wise girl, my treat." Percy smiled down at her, leading her to a booth.
The Demi-burger wasn't your typical diner. It had wooden floor board and wooden picnic table and benches. Trees hung everywhere and you could hear the loud clatter of pots and pans in the kitchen. The waitresses and chefs wore fake Greek armor and the utensils were all of metal and looked as if they were made by some barbarians. It was a favorite hangout for most students at HBH.
As they got seated, a waitress with dark braided hair and pretty hazel eyes sauntered over. Her face was splashed with light freckles and her pale lips were set in a seductive smile. She popped her hip and blew a bubble out of her gum.
Annabeth noticed the way she was eyeing Percy.
"Ya'll call me when you're ready to order, kay? The name's Misty by the way. Hey! That rhymed." She smiled stupidly and walked away, flipping her hair over her left shoulder.
Annabeth sighed and grabbed a menu from the side of the table and scanned the list.
"The burgers here are great. And I love the sweet potato fries…"
But Percy wasn't looking at the menu. He was looking at Annabeth.
Annabeth was wearing a lavender sweater over ripped white skinny jeans. Her brown ankle boots had flower patterns inside. Leather bracelets hung loosely around her small tan wrists and her grey eyes sparkled with the diner lights reflecting off of them. Her blonde curls cascading down past her shoulder blades, occasionally flying from the winds of the fan.
"Beautiful." He mumbled.
"What?" Annabeth went bright red. Her eyes met Percy, and she quickly looked away. When she looked up again, Percy was still staring at her. "Seaweed brain, it's not polite to stare. You're creeping me out."
Percy held her gaze and Annabeth felt as if she were about to melt.
"P-P-Percy…" She stammered.
"Okay ya'll! The kitchen's closing in a few so, like, you gunna order or what?" Misty appeared next to the booth.
"Um. I'll, um, have the Athenian Burger, hold the onions. And fresh squeezed orange juice. Thanks." She handed the menu to Misty, who looked at her.
"Um… okay…." Misty said sassily. "That's a lot of carbs, little lady."
"Yeah! I know!" Annabeth snapped and looked away, huffing.
"I'll have the same but with extra pickles and a sprite instead and also a round of sweet potato fries with extra carbs. Thank you." Percy smirked, handing his menu to Misty who's mouth turned into a small 'o'. Annabeth covered her smile with her hand.
"Oh my gods Percy!" Annabeth hissed after Misty left. "I can't believe out of all the people, you would say that." But she was smiling.
"She was rude to my little lady." Percy said with a cocky grin. Then when both of them realized the possession in the sentence, they went red.
Awkward silence.
Awkward.
"Sorry about the staring." Percy smiled apologetically. "It's just that—haha. You just—I don't know… you look really beautiful."
Annabeth felt her cheeks heat up again.
"It's cute when you blush."
Annabeth almost died. She hid under her arms and laughed. "Stop it!"
"What?" Percy laughed.
"Stop complimenting me, Seaweed brain."
"Telling the truth is a good thing!" Percy smiled. Annabeth lifted her arms and took a peek at him.
Percy was in a navy v-neck and a sea-green light jacket that brought out his eyes. His tousled dark hair framed his face and his jaw looked as if the gods themselves carved it. His grey sweatpants and black converse made him look casual… but pretty darn hot.
"Well you don't look so bad yourself." Then she buried herself again.
When their food came Annabeth immediately grabbed her burger and chewed it like a cow, making Percy laugh. Misty made a big show of putting the fries down, making sure her cleavage was showing. Annabeth almost scoffed. But Percy wasn't even looking at Misty. He was looking at Annabeth again. Smiling.
"I like a girl who eats." He shrugged as Misty stalked away. "Most girls wouldn't even drink water if it meant they were gaining a couple pounds. How stupid is that?"
Annabeth nodded, busily chewing the food.
When they finally finished devouring all the calories on the plates, Misty came with the check… and her number written on it. Percy put the money down and got up from the table, taking a last swig of soda.
As he started walking towards the door, Annabeth looked at the check with Misty's number. "You're not going to take that?"
"Naw. I've got better things to do." Percy smiled, extending his hand towards Annabeth, who laughed and pretended not to see his gesture.

By the time Percy had drove back to Annabeth's dorm, it was almost past 9.
"I had a great time." Percy said, turning to Annabeth.
"Me too… Percy, can you be honest for a sec?"
"I'm always honest!" Annabeth looked at him and smiled.
"Percy, was this a date?" Percy froze.
"Um… yeah… I guess. If you want it to be, yeah." He stammered nervously.
"Alright Seaweed Brain. Thanks for dinner. I'll see ya' tomorrow" She unbuckled her seat belt and leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. "Bye."
She got out the car and Percy watched until she entered her building, then relaxing into his seat and breathing deeply.
"Wow."
•
Percy tried to get into his dorm quietly. But when he unlocked the door, Nico was standing there.
"DUDE! You almost gave me a heart attack there." Percy hissed.
"Serves you right for leaving me and Thalia. You know, I had to crawl here because I was so broken." Nico scoffed and Percy tried to protest. "Anyway, how was le date with ze Annabeth. Goodnight hugs? Goodnight handshakes? Oh! I know! Goodnight wave?"
"You're gay. Goodnight." Percy walked towards his room and closed the door.
"MAYBE I AM!" Nico's voice was muffled through the door. Percy laughed and flopped onto his bed, thinking about Annabeth.

Annabeth took a quick shower and then slipped into bed, smiling to herself, her fingers on her lips, thinking about Percy.
