A/N Just wanted to apologise guys for the hiatus. Been really busy with college, mental block etc, but I'm back now, so I hope you're all still with me and this update comes as a welcome surprise and a review.
NIKITA'S POV
I drove Michael back to my appartment and parked his car. I helped him in and sat him on the sofa. I heard footsteps upstairs, and Alex came downstairs.
"Back already?" she asked raising an eyebrow at Michael's hand.
"Well, we would have been a bit later, but someone decided to lamp Owen" I replied. Alex glanced at Michael who shrugged his shoulders.
"Sorry, but he was implying you slept around, I had to jump in" he said.
"Like saving damsels in distress?" I asked.
"Especially this damsel" he winked.
"Ugh, if you two carry on, I'm gonna hurl" Alex said, making fake sick noises as she went back upstairs. I sat next to Michael.
"Now" I said tenderly, "give me your hand" He oblidged, only to wince when I put a bag of ice on it. "Please tell me what possessed you to punch him?"
"That is freezing, and like I said, damsels" Michael replied, winking again. I like this guy already. Nikita, don't be stupid. Remember what happened with Owen. Look how that turned out.
"Now, tell me, what happened with this Owen?" he asked. I sighed.
"Well, we had been together for about a year, and I thought things were going really well between, we had fun, and felt really good around each other, or so I thought, but I got home from work one day, when I heard noises coming from the bedroom. Curious, I went to find out, and I found Owen with some other girl, the girl he was with tonight, and I ended it. Turns out, he had been cheating on me for half our relationship, and the whole thing didn't mean a thing anyway. He only wanted the sex, so I threw myself into my work" I finished with a heavy smile. Michael looked at me sympathetically.
"How could anyone cheat on you?" he asked.
"Thanks, but you don't need to say that" I replied.
"I'm not. I genuinely can't see it. You're funny, smart, and to be blunt, drop-dead gorgeous" Michael retorted, the last part making us both blush. "Sorry, I shouldn't have said that"
I smiled, fairly embarassed. "It's fine thank you" I changed subjects so I wouldn't get lost in sparkling green eyes. "How about we get your hand bandaged?" I asked. He nodded, and I walked into the kitchen to find the bandages. I quickly found them. It was amazing I could find anything in this place. Alex was such a clutterer.
"I'm sorry about the mess by the way" I said.
"Alex I'm guessing?" Michael asked, raising an eyebrow.
"How did you know?" I laughed.
"You like one of the 'tidy house, tidy mind' sort of people" he replied.
"Yeah I guess" I said, wrapping his hand in tight bandages.
"I heard my name" Alex shouted from upstairs.
"You were meant to" me and Michael shouted at the same time. We both looked at each other and chuckled.
"Force of habit?" I asked, raising my eyebrow this time.
"Yeah mostly when dealing with Birkhoff" he replied.
"Why I don't fix us coffees and you can tell me all about this Birkhoff" I said, moving towards the kitchen again. I waited for the kettle to boil, and then made the coffees. I brought it to Michael, and waited for him to drink it. When he had took a sip, he looked at me. "
"What?" he questioned.
"Is it as good as store coffee?" I asked, with a playful smile.
"Better" he smiled back.
"Good, so tell me about this Birkhoff" I said.
"Well, I've been stuck with him since uni, I majored in photography, and he majored in business. We met through a party, and to this day, I still have no clue how, he's like one of the nerdiest people alive. We got talking and decided to set up a business together. He gets on my nerves at times, but he's like a brother to me, and I wouldn't be without him. He's stuck with me through thick and thin, and I could never repay him for it, not that I would tell him any of this" Michael admitted. I put a hand lightly on his arm, feeling the electricity emitting from one little touch.
"Well I think it's really sweet what you said about him" I said.
"You do?" he asked.
"Not many people stay friends for that long. He sounds like a great guy. I'd like to meet him one day" I replied, giving Michael a comforting smile.
"Your turn" he said. I looked at him puzzled. "Alex" he replied. I nodded.
"Well, same story really but I had a difficult upbringing to say the least, and ahe was there with me from the start. Our parents knew each other quite well, and we made friends straight away, she can be A PAIN IN THE ASS sometimes, but I love her like a sister, and I would be lost without her" I replied. This time it was Michael's turn to put a hand on my arm, the same electricity flowing. He turned to face me, and put a hand on my face. Oh my god, he's going to kiss me. This amazingly hot guy that I have only just me is about to kiss me. I want him to kiss me. Our lips got closer until the phone started ringing. Michael quickly dropped his hand, and the moment was lost. I went to pick it up.
"Hello?" I asked. There was no-one there, just a faint buzzing.
"Hello?" I asked again.
"Hello Nikita" came the reply. That voice was so familiar.
"Who is this?" I asked.
"Oh I think you know" was the reply. I definitely knew that voice. There was no mistaking the arrogance.
"What do you want?" I asked fearful.
"You'll find out" I went to hang up but his voice stopped me. "I'll be seeing you very soon" Those six words have never made me more afraid in my entire life. I dropped the phone.
"Nikita?" Michael asked.
"Go" I whispered.
"What?" he asked.
"Just go Michael. Go. GET OUT!" I screamed. He put his hands up and left. When he had gone, I slumped against the door and cried. Alex ran down the stairs, and put her arms around me.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"He's back Alex. He's back" I sobbed.
