Chapter 28
Argis woke late in the morning, he started when Jorik wasn't in bed with him. He worried that everything that had happened last night had been a dream, but he was pretty sure it hadn't been.
He got up slowly and walked downstairs smiled slightly when he saw Jorik cooking, with Farkas, Vilkas and kodlak sitting with a bottle of mead in their hand. He looked back to Jorik and knew without being told that he had information he wasn't going to like. He knew it by the set of his shoulders, the look in his eyes, Argis sighed, not sure if he wanted to hear any bad news now. He had his fill over the last month or more.
"What?" Argis asked.
"Alduin, he got away on the throat of the world," Jorik told him ignoring the three other avidly listening people.
"So you need to search for him? Where would he be and how will you find him?" Vilkas asked, with a grin of anticipation.
"By calling a dragon to Dragonsreach, and interrogating him," Jorik answered with a shrug.
"And how are you going to get it to talk?" Farkas asked.
"Zu'u fen genun mok dii zaan los muliik fein ok, muliik fein Alduin's. Hjane rok kreh wah dii fen uv Zu'u fen wahl mok kreh wah dii fen." {I will show him my shout is stronger than his, stronger than Alduin's. Either he bends to my will or I will make him bend to my will.} Jorik rumbled with an animalistic grin that had the room going quiet.
"What just happened?" Farkas asked watching Jorik closely, sitting on the edge of his seat in case the man… dragon decided to attack.
"The souls and his blood, he is a dragon in a human's body. When he was given the wolf the dragon and wolf fought each not willing to give up dominance. That is why when I spoke to him in dragon he listened, his dragon was stronger for the most part. Right now from what I understood he will bend the dragon to his will if he doesn't bend on his own…. Not entirely sure if I got it right," Argis muttered smirking at his husband.
"And how long is he going to be like this?" Vilkas asked.
"As long as the souls want. He is being who he is," Argis said smiling at Jorik.
"You are not worried he will harm you?" Kodlak asked giving Jorik a curious look.
"No, he would never harm me," Argis murmured.
"Is he purring?" Farkas as when he snapped his mouth shut. It wasn't one that the larger cats do, but deeper, louder, something a very large animal would do. It was odd hearing it from a him.
Argis chuckled taking Jorik's hand in his own.
~ooooooooooooooooo~
Jprik stood in front of Balgruuf, "You want to what?" Balgruuf asked incredulously.
"I need to capture a dragon here," Jorik repeated while Argis snickered softly behind his back.
"No. I can't do it, not with this war going on. Both factions are just looking for a weakness and I will not give it to them," Balgruuf stated.
"What will it take for you to say yes?" Jorik asked rolling his eyes.
"Stop this war, or find a way to make sure that my lands and people are safe while you do this. The only way I can see this happening is by negotiating a truce between the both of them," Balgruuf suggested thoughtfully.
"You want me to negotiate a truce between Ulfric and Tullius…. You do realize that Tullius wants Ulfric dead? Remember Helgen? You're asking the impossible, those two will not want a peace treaty." Jorik muttered.
"That is the only way to I will allow you to use my castle to catch a dragon unless you want to join the war and end it? Though I don't know if you have time for that," Balgruuf stated firmly.
"Balgruuf this is to stop Alduin! The dragon of legend that wants to destroy the world, remember the old stories? And you want me to do the impossible…" Jorik muttered with an annoyed shake of his head.
"Jorik…"
"No, pleading your case won't make this any easier or trying to persuade me to see your point, don't bother. I will try for these negotiations, but if they fail… and I can't capture this dragon because you won't let me use that trap…" Jorik didn't finish the threat, but it hung in the air.
"Jorik!" Argis uttered shocked. "You can't be serious, you would give Whiterun to Alduin?"
"He's going to destroy the world, and this is the only place where I can stop him and he'll figure it out. I won't have to do a thing," Jorik stated with a smirk. "Well lets go and talk to the two asses, see if we can make them see the light."
"You're doing the talking this time and I would suggest if it doesn't work, follow your blood," Argis murmured with a sly grin.
"I might end up killing them both," Jorik warned him.
"Well that would put a pause on the war for a bit," Argis answered with a shrug. Jorik stared at him for a moment and then laughed, he had expected Argis to come up with that suggestion.
~oooooooooooooooooooooooooo~
Jorik followed by Argis walked into the building to hear arguing between two people. He glanced at the guards standing around, they didn't seem worried that someone was just walking in here. He shook his head, an assassin could sneak in here and they probably wouldn't care. He noticed one soldier dozing off and another staring blankly ahead.
"Reminded me never to have any of these men follow me," Jorik whispered to Argis who chuckled softly.
They stepped into the main room where General Tullius stood. "General?" Jorik inquired politely.
"Didn't anyone stop you? What are they letting anyone in now?" the general grumbled with a scowl.
Jorik sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, "General, you have nerve I'll give you that, but to be so insulting is uncalled for. I am here to ask you to participate in a meeting at High Hrothgar," Jorik stated.
"And why would I go there?" the general sneered.
"You know those dragons flying around, well for me to stop them I need to catch a dragon and I can't do that with this war going on," Jorik snapped.
"And what will Ulfric be doing?" He asked, his mood lightening. He wanted those dragons gone everyone did. That would be a boon to this war.
"I will be speaking to him as after I am finished with you and he will be attending even if I have to drag the both of you there," Jorik threatened. He glanced at the woman on the other side of the table, she had her hand on the hilt of her sword.
"Dreh ni unt ahrk iidah zey joor, hi fen ni kron." {Do not try and attack me mortal, you will not win.} Jorik warned, the rumble in his voice shaking the floor and walls.
"What in Oblivion was that?" General tullius asked, his blade part way out.
"General, don't. He's the dragonborn, neither of us stand a chance. That was the language of the dragons he spoke," The woman stated.
Argis moved up beside placing a hand on Jorik's shoulder. "Don't shout yet. If their blades are drawn then you may," Argis warned, hoping his husband listened.
Jorik stared at Argis for a moment, and nodded slowly. He turned his attention back to the General, "We'll be there, I hope you can get Ulfric there too," He muttered and gave a dismissing nod. Argis grabbed Jorik's arm when he started growling low.
"Don't, he agreed to come, now we must speak with the other," Argis said urgently.
Without another word, Jorik turned and stalked out of the building.
~oooooooooooooooooooooo~
Ulfric's eyes narrowed as the dragonborn walked into the main hall. He watched the man walked towards him with amber eyes, pupils slitted, not human eyes. He wasn't sure what those eyes belong to but they set him on edge.
"Drem yol lok Bronjun," Jorik said, meeting the man's eyes.
"Greetings dovahkiin," Ulfric murmured, the words feeling odd on his tongue, it had been a while since he spoke the dragon tongue. He never finished his training, so he wasn't fluent in it, but he hoped good enough to speak with this man.
"Alduin alok einzuk, tiid do qostiid lost meyz. Til los grind ahst Lok Hrothgar fah krolurend ful Zu'u vis viik Alduin. Zu'u praag wah poltor dovah ahst Dragonsreach fah frahzogin rok lost. Waan til los nid krolurend Alduin fen naak daar lein. Fos dreh hi saag Bronjun?" {Alduin rise again, the time of the prophecy has come. There is a meeting at High Hrothgar for an agreement so I can defeat Alduin. I need to capture a dragon at Dragonsreach for the information he has. If there is no agreement Alduin will eat this world. What do you say Jarl?} Dovahkiin's voice thunder through the room.
Ulfric stayed still, he was use to the Greybeards voice, but this was stronger, scarier. This was the voice of a dragon. He swallowed thickly, understanding most of what was said, enough to get the gist of it. "I'll be there. We'll leave in the morning," Ulfric stated. He watched the dragonborn nod once and stalk out of castle.
"What was that?" Galmor asked nervously. Ulfric smirked, he never thought he would hear this man nervous, but he couldn't blame him at all.
"That was the dragonborn and his was speaking dragon," Ulfric answered in amusement. "He is the one that is going to win this war, if he will fight for us."
"He's a nord, he'll fight for us," Galmor stated with certainty.
"He's a nord, also a dragon, dragons don't bow, the rule," Ulfric repeated from his teachings from the Greybeards. He hadn't understood it then, but now he did. Getting the dragonborn to fight for them, could be their benefit or downfall. Time will only tell. He wouldn't hunt down the man he would wait till the dragon came to him.
