This is basically the final chapter of this story. The next chapter is a brief look into the feature, a prologue. It will be up some time tonight.
So I have rewritten quite a few parts of this chapter and it still doesn't sit right with me. I hope the rest of you enjoy it. Let me know what you think.
Chapter 30
Jorik stopped his mouth dropping in shock. Sovngarde was everything the stories said and so much more if this fog wasn't covering it and a black dragon wasn't swooping around every so often.
"Wow," Argis murmured.
"I couldn't have agreed more," Jorik answered.
"The souls finally let you go?" Argis commented with a grin. "I thought for sure this time they wouldn't let you go."
"And would that be so bad?" Jorik asked seriously, watching Argis closely.
"Doesn't bother me one way or another, though I would ask the next time you breathe fire make sure no one else is near. I almost got singed," Argis grumbled with a mock scowl.
"Then you shouldn't have followed so closely, you knew what I was going to do," Jorik grumbled.
"Didn't think you were going to roast her. I thought you were going to freeze her and then send her body frozen back to the Embassy," Aris muttered with a shake of his head.
"Damn, wish I would have thought of that," Jorik murmured with a grin. He glanced over at Argis and both of them continued walking through the fog.
"I wonder if your father made it to Shor's hall," Argis murmured glancing at Jorik nervously.
"He died a year ago, he must have," Jorik whispered, faint hope in his voice. Argis nearly cursed himself, he shouldn't have said a word. Jorik needed his mind clear. Silence descended between the both of them as they walked through the dense fog.
They didn't stop until they came to a clearing where a very large man, and Argis couldn't believe it, he had just met a man as large as Jorik. Argis looked at Jorik, his eyes were turning amber, his dragons souls were taking over once more.
"I am Tsun, Thane-shield to Shor, why are you here?" the giant of a man asked.
"I am dragonborn I am here to kill Alduin," Jorik stated taking a step closer.
"To get into the greathall, you'll have to pass a test," the giant said and then unsheathed his ax. Jorik grinned, "FUS RO DAH!" he shouted and watched the man stubble back.
Argis stood back and watched the fight. He knew Jorik was a good fighter, but this… this was something. His husband was using shouts and weapons. He was quick and dead, not giving the large man a chance.
"Enough, you have proven yourself worthy to pass," Tsun stated with a grin.
Argis went to follow but was stopped, "No you can wait out here, near the bridge," Tsun ordered.
"I have one question, Jorik's father, did he make it to the hall?" Argis asked.
"Akatosh is always welcome to our halls," Tsun murmured placing a hand over his chest.
"No, not the one who blessed him, but his biological father," Argis grumbled, trying not to roll his eyes.
"As am I," Tsun murmured as they both watched Jorik cross the bridge. "But the one you speak of, Aden, is inside the hall."
"Aden is Jorik's biological father, not Akatosh. Akatosh only gave him the gift of dragonblood," Argis argued.
"Believe what you wish," Tsun uttered with a small smile.
~oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo~
Jorik walked into the hall, his eyes widening when he saw his family there. He held them close when he neared them, happiness filling him that they were safe. His father stepped back a grin on his face.
"I see I couldn't keep it a secret. I tried for all your life, but didn't succeed," Aden murmured.
"What did you keep from me?" Jorik asked, his voice a rumble.
"You are your father's son, now it's time for you to defeat your brother," Aden said and then walked away with a small smile.
Jorik stood there staring at his father's departing back. He couldn't believe what he just heard. He wasn't even sure if it was true. How could he of all people be Akatosh's son? It made no sense, the only way to have a kid was to be solid and bed the woman. Akatosh couldn't become solid in Nirn. So many books, writings, documents, stated that, even Akatosh himself said so. It made no sense.
Jorik shook it off for something to look into later after he defeated Alduin. He knew someone was wrong somewhere, but couldn't figure out how some got that idea and how someone could make a mistake like this that was so obvious.
~oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo~
Argis paced back and forth outside, his eyes flashing towards the black dragon that swooped down every few moments. That dragon sent a shiver down his spine. It was the largest he had ever seen.
He glanced towards the doors that Jorik walked through. He smiled when he saw his husband and three others run back across the bridge. "We have help?" Argis asked happily. He really didn't want it to be only the two of them.
"Yes we do," Jorik growled, a lethal grin on his face. "Time to take this bastard down. Argis stay behind us until the fighting starts."
"Its not just the five of you," A female voice said from behind them. Jorik whipped around, about to drop to his knees and beg for forgiveness. "Don't even think of it Jorik. If you drop to your knees and beg for my forgiveness I will kick your ass. There is nothing to forgive, you did no wrong." Lydia stated with a smirk. "Now shall we kick that over grown lizards ass?"
"Lydia? How can you forgive me so easily? I murdered you," Jorik whispered.
"No you didn't murder me, your beast did and I died protecting the one who is most important to you. I couldn't ask for a better honor than that," Lydia answered a small smile on her face.
Jorik nodded slowly, accepting what she said. He still believed he was getting off to easy, but at the moment it didn't matter. He glanced at all of them, "Then lets do this. Argis, Lydia stay behind us for now."
"O-kay…" Argis said uncertainly.
"As you wish my Thane," Lydia murmured with a small bow.
Jorik turned forward, embracing all those souls that filled him. He watched Alduin fly around, "LOK VAH KOOR!" he shout along with the others. They watched the mist clear for a few moments and then come back. "Again!" he yelled. Twice more they shouted, it was the final time that Alduin finally showed himself.
For a split second fear raced through him as Argis raced towards the dragon along with the other three warriors. Jorik growled low, racing after his husband. "Joor Zah Frul!" Jorik shouted when he was within reach of Alduin. He smirked when the dragon couldn't fly off.
Jorik lifted one had, magic lighting it, the other held his sword. He ran towards the black nightmare, "RUS RO DAH, he shouted, knocking the dragon barely off balance, but enough so that he could get in close without worrying about the teeth.
He didn't know how long they fought. For a bit he wasn't even sure if he would win. He remembered his dreams and the knowledge that he couldn't beat Alduin. But that was in the past, he wasn't the same man then. He had accepted who he was, Dovahkiin. This was his destiny, what he was meant to do.
Jorik walked over to Alduin when he fell to the ground nearly dead. The old dragon took a gasping breath and then no more. Jorik placed his hand on Alduin's snout, watching as the dragon caught fire, his soul floating just above the flames.
He knew from Paarthurnax's words that he could never take Aluin soul. It was too powerful for any mortal to take.
"The old dragon was right on that point, Alduin's soul is too powerful for a mortal," a voice he knew very well said from behind him.
"Aden the father that I have always known told me something I still don't believe," Jorik murmured waiting for the soul to float away.
"You should. Aden could never conceive a child, they prayed to the gods for years. With the help of one other, you were conceived and placed within your mother's body. It was always your destiny to become dovahkiin, dragonborn. I have watched over you all your life, helped when I could, but I could only do so much. Now that your destiny is done and you have done all that I requested of you I have one last gift to give you," Akatosh said softly and stared at the soul of his oldest. He glance back at his youngest son a small smile and allowed Alduin's soul to enter him.
"Be better than your bother was," He murmured before fading.
Jorik dropped to his knees, the soul filling him. He thought he would have to fight this soul, but there was no fight, only contentedness as he was filled. His mouth opened with a silent scream and agony took over his body.
Argis watched his husband, his mouth dropped open in astonishment. He had never expected this, never thought this was possible. He watched as his husband writhed on the ground, slowly his limbs growing until before his stood a large black dragon. He looked into the dragon's eyes and could still see his husband. He wondered if just lost his husband, it was painful to think, but it would be something he would have to accept. He smiled softly as Jorik nudged him with his snout.
"I never expected this Jorik," He whispered, petting the smooth solid scales.
He didn't expect an answer, "You and me both," Jorik rumbled, his words slightly slurred. "Climb on," Jorik ordered softly chuffing his laughter at Argis' incredulous look. He purred loudly when he felt Argis' weight upon his back, he glanced at Tsun, nodding his head.
~oooooooooooooooooooooooooo~
Jorik took flight as soon as they appeared on the Throat of the World. He roared loudly, a warning to all the dragons gathered. He announced Alduin's defeat, his victory over their thur {overlord}. He landed before Paarthurnax with Argis still upon his back. "Alduin is dead, Akatosh gave his soul to me," he told the old dragon.
"So now you know," Paarthurnax murmured.
"Yes brother I do know now," Jorik answered with a bow to his older brother. "I finally found who I really am."
