"Hello?"
Zero froze. It was her voice! The voice that he yearned to hear for months. They was there, alive, very much talking to him.
"Hello? Yuuki, are you there? I've missed you! How are things in Japan?"
Zero couldn't make a sound for some reason. The essay of thoughts was stuck in a storm cloud in his throat, not being able to become audible words. Words like We miss you or more appropriately, I miss you.

Come home.
It's boring here.
It's empty.

Yuuki still hasn't learned how to use the stove.
Chairman invested in a new gnome collection.
The sun is killing us here - 37 degrees at the moment.
I haven't played a good game of chess in a long time.

You okay? How is family?
Do you miss us?
You don't cook much - how are you eating?

When will you be back?

Will you be back?

Such were thoughts that went across his mind every day. Noelle was strong, independent and witty, but he was uneasy at the thought of her in the middle of rural Europe surrounded by the world's best chemistry students. Somewhere in that lot, there is going to be a weirdo. Zero also wouldn't accept the possibility that she might actually stay in Europe and not return to Japan for their final year of school.
Her low voice, the sound of song to Zero's ears, murmured again.
"Yuuki? Where are you? Is anyone there?"
Zero was ready to reply and explain his absence from writing letters to her, which ached him as much as it ached Noelle, only to have prepared in vain.
"Ahh. I'll try again later."
