Run

Dempsey stared at the closed bathroom door as he waited. He knew something was wrong, he could feel it. A crash from inside the women's toilets had him running through the door to see the fire escape door clashing against the tiles.

"Harry!" He ran to the door, fear building in the pit of his stomach. "Harry!" The squeeling of brakes pierced his guts as he flew through the doors. Running he desperately tried to reach the back of the van, knowing it was pointless.

Harry rolled around the inside of the van as it bounced across the Tarmac. Hitting the side of the van she groaned. Opening her eyes slowly the fear gripped her.

"Julie." She tried to push herself up on to her knees. "What the?" She muttered to herself as she realised she was in the back of another transit van. Carefully she ran the events of the last few days through her mind, trying to skip over the details of the night she had spent with Dempsey. Thinking if him would do her no good. A sound from the driver cabin alerted her to the van stopping. Closing her eyes she decided playing dead would be the only thing to save her.

"Chas!" Spikings yelled as he marched through the office. Chas swore under his breath before standing up. " I've just had Dempsey on the phone. Seems Harry has been abducted. It looks like Julie is a turncoat."

"Where was she taken from?"

"The women's toilets!" Spikings roared. "We find her - no one goes off duty until she's back here."

"William Jones absconded from his Bail Hostel." Chas stated. "I just put the phone down after talking to the manager. You trusted Julie, would she really be involved in abducting a police officer? In the death of a young man the day Jones was released? Her husband? His assault and subsequent death?"

"Eight years ago." Spikings pinched the bridge of his nose. "The Met was even more sexist than it is now. No one would have thought a woman capable if the evil we were investigating. It didn't seem possible. We knew Jones was dirty and we knew Julie was involved. It seemed she only came to us, to me." He paused. "When she wanted the attention diverted. She wanted to seem innocent. When she realised we knew Jones could never do this alone."

"She's as dangerous as he is." Chas stated. Spikings nodded.

"And they have Harry."
