Alone
Everything ached. That was the first thing she remembered thinking. Then there was the cold. She was freezing and alone. That was all she knew. There was nothing that stuck out in her memory apart from the burning sensation in her neck as she had been thrown back in the van. Rolling onto her back she tried to ignore the pain in her back as she tried to work out where she was.

"Dempsey!" He started as he heard his name called. He had barely eaten or slept since Harry had been taken. To the rest of the world he looked a mess. He didn't care. All that mattered was finding Harry Makepeace.
"Yo." He walked into the office as Spikings looked up.
"The correct phrase is Yes Sir."
Dempsey shrugged as Spikings looked at him. Spikings glared as he watched the younger man literally falling apart in front of him.
"We will find her."
"Alive?" Dempsey snapped. "You know Harry, she can take care of herself. But you know William Jones and this Julie woman. You must have some idea what they are up to. It's been three days."
"I know exactly how long it has been. Have you slept at all?"
"Sleep is overrated."
"Dempsey."
"Sir."
"Harry needs you at the top of your game now. Dave has come back to work early, despite what the doctors said and Chas is working around the clock. I need you sober and focused."
"Oh I am sober. Completely and I will be until she is home. And I can guarantee I'm at the top of the game."
Spikings nodded. "Have you read Jones' file?"
"Most of it."
"Then you know he is a violent man." Spikings stated calmly. "Before he was arrested seven years ago he was arrested for assault, robbery with violence and various other vile crimes. Mostly against young blonde women."
"Like Harry." Dempsey glared. "Young, blonde and female. Seems to be his type. Where does Julie fit into all this? You still haven't given us a decent explanation of how she is involved in all this. What hold has she got over you?"
"I suggest you think about what you are saying."
"Well?"
"I was a DS in those days. I was stationed opposite the shop where she worked. You went there with Harry."
"I did." He nodded.
"She told me her husband was involved with a criminal. That she was frightened she would be hurt if Stephen got more and more involved with him. I followed it up but we were too late. It seemed Stephen had been dragged in to Jones' seedy little world. Or so I thought." He shook his head sadly. "It seems I was wrong. Young, naive Julie wasn't so innocent after all."
"Where would they take Harry?" Dempsey frowned. "Honestly, I don't care about what Jones did all those years ago. Or what Julie was involved with. I just."
"Want her home." Spikings finished. "You spoken to her father?"
"Yeah." Dempsey looked away. He was distracted from his thoughts as he realised Chas was calling Spikings to the outer office. Spikings huffed before marching out of the office.
"Chas?"
"He's been spotted. Service station just off the M4." Chas grabbed his jacket as he saw Dempsey head for the door. Spikings huffed and puffed as he followed the younger men out the door.

Harry ran a hand over her face, trying to work ou there she was. Her legs burned with the effort of trying to move. Gingerly she reached in the back of her jeans, knowing her holster and gun would be gone. Cursing anyway she tried to skulk back into the corner, hoping she wouldn't be seen as the door in front of her creaked open.
