Zeke.
I plug the hardware into my tablet and watch Tris's memory for the sixth time. There's nothing of importance. Okay that's a lie but there's no information that will help me find my brother. I pause the video and let out a deep sigh. I was so close. So close. I try not to be jealous of Four but I can't help it. He got Tris back. It was a total and complete miracle but it happened. Why couldn't it have happened for me? Our Father died when we were young; so did our grandparents. Two years after Uriah died; our mother had a stroke and passed away. I have no family anymore. Nobody understands how much it hurts. Four doesn't understand how desperate I am. If there is any chance of Uriah being alive, I'm going to take that chance no matter what. I don't care how absurd it sounds but I have a gut feeling that he is alive and I am going to find him.
I stare back into the frozen screen.
Come on.
It's useless.
Anything.
Tris and Uriah's death have nothing in common.
Just a hint.
I saw him die before my own eyes.
Nothing?
I watched the doctor pull the cord from the machine that ended his life.
Aha.
The frozen frame is stuck on the man who Tris woke up to, but I can somewhat distinguish some sort of symbol behind him.
I zoom in. Its looks like a logo embellished on the wall behind him.
I try to look closer but I can't read it. However I can see a design on the right side of the word. It's of two intersecting lines with bulbs on the ends. It looks like a molecule. I can use that. I search a description of the logo and come out with abundances of results. Only one of them catches my eye.
Dalex?
It looks like a link to some sort of Business Corporation. I've heard of the name from work. It was always spoken in hushed voices, the word was never meant to be heard.
But I heard it loud and clear.
I click the link, my hand shaking. Suddenly my screen freezes. An alert comes on the screen and then my computer shuts down. I try to restart it but I won't turn on.
It's a good thing I have two computers. Without breaking in to any secured sites, I look up the coordinates of Dalex. What does the name mean? Dalex. Dalex. David. Alex.
Oh boy. I find the coordinate points and search them on the map. It's not located far away. Maybe an hour in driving. I need to tell Tobias about this.
He won't pick up any of my calls so I drive to his apartment. I bang on the door but he doesn't answer. He's probably not home. I reach for the spare key under the mat and let myself in. I sit on his couch and fiddle with my tablet while I wait for him. I need to find out as much information about this place as I can. Even if they don't have my brother, they are certainly up to no good. I can't find any solid leads but I can track files of many previous law suits.
I hear the door open and slam and watch as a drunken Four slumps onto his couch.
"We need to talk." I say abruptly.
He screams and falls off his couch. I guess he didn't realize I was here.
"Zeke, What the hell?" I ignore him.
"It's Uriah. I know where he is."
Tobias.
I immediately sober up. I guess I wasn't as drunk as I thought I was. I know Zeke is still crazy about finding his brother but I won't believe he is really alive until I see solid proof.
"I know you don't believe me, I can see it on your face. But look." He hands me his tablet and I look at the video of Tris's memory on pause. It's the man who posed as Tris's uncle.
"Zeke, what am I looking at?"
He zooms in on the wall behind him and I start to see a blue design appear. It's tiny, but I can make out a symbol.
"It's a logo. Probably of the place Tris was taken."
"Yes, so I searched it up and it's a corporation called Dalex. I'm assuming it was created by David and Alex, hence the name. I don't know what it is and any information that I can find is heavily protected. I already lost one computer trying to get in and we probably don't have time to hire a hacker. Anyway, I found the coordinates and it's within driving distance. Four we have to leave."
"Whoa, Zeke. Calm down and be rational. How do you know this place can help us find Uriah? What if it doesn't exist? What if it's a trap? This sounds too easy. We can't just show up to a place, break in and get Uriah and leave. How do we even know he's alive?"
"I know, I get that but this is the first lead we've had since, ever, I guess. Even if we don't find Uriah this is definitely the place that took Tris and who knows who else they might have hidden there. I'm not saying this is easy and simple, but I am saying it is worth a try. I'm done being lazy and finding a way out of my problems. We're still Dauntless. And we need to do this."
"Fine, but I'm bringing my gun."
It's dark by the time we get there and I already have a sour feeling in the pit of my stomach. I doubt this night will end on a good note. I didn't want to come at all but some of what Zeke said had truth to it. I am done ignoring the issue on why Tris is alive. I'm done waiting around for the answers to come to me. I knew this wasn't going to be easy. We step out of the car and look at the wired fence almost a hundred feet away.
It looks all too promising and unpromising at the same time.
We try to walk towards it but I can sense that we are not alone. I grab the gun that's strapped to my leg and hold on to it. I haven't been this badass in a while. I'm a little rusty in my skills. Then again, my rust is another man's full effort.
As we're ten feet away from the fence, which is more like a wall now that I see it, we hear the shouts and the gunshots that we had not fired. I feel the guard come up behind me trying to attack, but I'm quicker. I knock him out with my gun and shoot the other guard who is on top of Zeke in the leg. They, of course, multiply and I go full out. Kicking, hitting, swinging and shooting. I really haven't done this in a while.
But the rush of adrenaline ends fast.
I see Zeke on the ground with a gun pointed towards his head. I don't think, I shoot.
I just killed a man and I realize that we are incredibly out numbered. Stupid. So stupid.
There's nothing we can do. We run.
And run. Faster.
Soon enough we tire out. We lost them about a mile ago. I put my hands on my knees and bend my head down.
"Dude." Says an out of breath Zeke, shoving my shoulder. I look up. It's a door with the same Dalex logo on it.
It's a small booth between the two wall panels. The wall is so high up that you can't see anything that could be on the other side. Like a building.
"The doors locked." I grumble as I forcefully shove my body against it.
"I think that's what this is for." He holds up a card with a man's face on it.
"I smuggled this when he was on top of me. I think you have to swipe it."
He slides the card in and out of the socket on the door. It flickers green and he opens the door.
The small room can fit only one person and is nothing but a panel of buttons and levers. We don't touch it; we don't want to cause anything.
I'll admit, even I am giddy to see what waits once we open the next door. He swipes the card again and opens it.
My heart drops.
I think I can feel Zeke's heart cracking open.
There's nothing but a collapsed building. Some wood scraps, sharp metal objects, dirt and ash mixed together. It doesn't look like anyone's been here for years. There's nothing here. Whatever this Dalex thing was, it was taken care of years ago.
Zeke's knees give out and he crumbles to the ground. I've never seen him so fragile.
"Zeke."
"Don't say it. I should have listened to you. I should have known better. How stupid was I to think that he would be alive? We watched him die. He wasn't like Tris. God, I really believed in him but I was losing my own mind doing it."
It hurts, seeing my friend like this. I wish I could do something but I know there is nothing I can do.
"Zeke."
"I have no family left. That's just the way it's supposed to be."
"Zeke."
I hear footsteps. The guards must have found us. But that leaves me wondering, what are they guarding?
"We should go before they find us. I want to go home."
So that's what we do. We leave and go home. I drive Zeke to his place but before I can say anything he gets out of the car and slams the door. I can't even imagine what he's feeling. And I know I'm crazy for saying this, but I don't want him to give up on Uriah.
We don't know everything.
3rd person.
His eyes open. He looks around but all he can see is white. He can't move; not yet. Where is he? Who is he? His eyes come into focus and he sees two people walk though the hallway outside his door. He closes his eyes again. It is his instinct not to trust these people. He wiggles his fingers, his toes. He moves his arms and his legs. He gets up from the bed he was placed in. He grasps his head in pain. Flashes of memory come back to him. He sees a dark skinned boy, around his age (whatever age he is), he sees a blonde girl, a crying mother, a tall and dark haired man. He sees an explosion. He knows his name and his age now. And he knows he needs to leave.
He walks over to the door and opens it. It's unlocked. His eyes skirt the white hallway, looking for people. He hears whispers.
"Divergent."
"Yes, but we don't know what level."
"We must train him to be the best he can be, and then we can determine his level."
"He will be waking soon and we don't have his companion, Beatrice Prior."
"Were still tracking her but someone must have found her. She is not in plain sight like she used to be."
"We need to find her, and soon. If we want to start the program again, we need her and only her. She is the only level three we have. She is unaware of her power which is potentially dangerous."
"Yes, we will find her and when we do we will-"
He didn't know how much of his head was peeking through the door. Before being spotted, he quickly returns to his room and climbs into the bed. He looks at the walls. There's a word on it.
Dalex.
Hi! This chapter was super fun to write. Not much drama(that's next chapter) but hopefully a lot of action. This is more of the importantish stuff though. Idk im sleep deprived. And if youre asking why I chose "Dalex" for the big scary people. Idk. It just came to me. Im not creative. And im tired. Thanks so much for reviewing the last chapter! Im glad people are still enjoying the story and are wanting more. Im not going to tell you who the 3rd person pov was but im pretty sure you can guess. Ive been wanting to write this chapter since I started this fanfic. Idk I also did Zekes pov since he is a very underrated character. That's all that's going on with me, whats up with you?
REVIEW PLEASE!
