Alright my happy fans hopefully this comes out at a decent paced time since I am in school right now.
Other then that the new red vs blue season is wrapping itself up as I do this and it seems great so far.
Please enjoy the chapter and have a very nice day.
Training room floor
Kale sighed once again as he York dealed out the next hand of cards. York apparently had a spare deck of cards in his locker and brought them out to occupy them while North fixed the ships A.I. It had started out ok...for his standards anyways. Won a few hands and then started to lose...a lot.
Kale knew that York was cheating. "I fold...again." He sighed out throwing his cards to the ground.
"I'm out." C.T said not bothering with her cards either. She was counting the cards and decided she wasn't doing anything this hand.
Maine grunted and threw his cards down. Honestly he was going to murder York if he threw him another pair of two's!
Wyoming placed another pair of chips onto the floor. "Honestly chaps I don't know what all of you are on about."
Carolina raised an eyebrow at Wyoming. "Raise." She said simply and threw more chips in.
"Well it looks like Carolina has something up her sleeves!" York said with mock enthusiasm. "To bad I have something better. All in!" York threw all his chips in and to the center of the floor smugly.
Wyoming looked at the chips and slid his cards to the ground. "Perhaps next time."
Kale rubbed his eyes and yawned a bit. How long had it been since North and South left? It felt like hours to Kale at least, but really he could never tell time unless Alpha or someone else mentioned it. That's one of the advantages of space travel, no curfew.
"Tired?" C.T said looking over to him.
Kale nodded and rubbed his head again. "Yeah a bit of a headache to boot." Kale looked up at the ceiling and sighed. It was weird how sleeping on the most advanced ship he'd ever seen was normal right now.
"You wanna head over to your room? I'd wake you up when North got F.I.L.L.I.S back online." C.T said shrugging looking at Carolina who was cautiously making a decision. It had occurred to C.T that Carolina was not so tense as before...maybe she had been accustomed to the company of him. Still she was a danger to Kale and she wouldn't overlook her.
"Nah." Kale yawned again holding his hand to his face rubbing it. "I'm fine just a little drained."
C.T shrugged and Wyoming looked at him. "So young chap, how are your accommodations?" He asked a little bit of curiosity in his voice.
Kale shrugged and shifted nervously. "It's fine I guess...less metallic like the rest I suppose." He clasped his hands a little bit tighter together.
C.T snapped her fingers and looked over at Kale. "So Kale, you wanna tell us about yourself?" C.T said very curious about his personal life and his past. Maybe she could get a clue about him...
"Don't bother C.T." York said looking over to her. "He's just gonna say it's classified or something along those lines. Right?" He said looking over to Kale.
"Well all we've asked is about us." She said almost coming to the realization in her head. Next to the basic stuff they knew about Kale, they really had no idea who he was. She turned over to Kale and gave him a smile. "What was your life before you got here?"
Kale blinked and thought that. He looked down at the floor and narrowed his eyes. "Well...I mean...average I suppose." He scratched the back of his neck. "Ok family..." He blinked for a moment giving a shudder.
"Kale?" C.T said grabbing his shoulder. "You alright?!" She looked at him with concern on her face almost panic. "Do you need me to get you something?" C.T said almost getting up.
"N-no." He said weakly not looking off the floor.
The others had noticed Kale and even the game of poker had stopped in it's tracks.
"It's just...I guess I'm a little homesick is all." He said gently removing the hand from his shoulder. "Just miss mom and dad..." Oh God. He hadn't even thought about them in the last few...days? It felt like weeks here. Then another horrifying thought landed on his head. An idea Carolina had suggested.
"The videos." Carolina blurts out abruptly. The eyes of Washington and South dart to her. "If what you're saying is true than if we just get through them you can leave correct?"
That thought hit him like a ton of bricks. What if he could never go home? Never see his family again never- "Gah!" Kale said as his shoulder throbbed. He could hear other voices yelling as his ears picked them up.
"Kale!" C.T said almost having a heart attack as Kale paled fast and fell abruptly to the ground. Hard.
"Huh?" Kale mumbled the throbbing overriding some of his other senses. "Nah I'm fine...just-ouch! Lost focus for a second..." He said weakly leaning on C.T.
C.T puts a hand on his forehead. "Fever maybe? Maybe your just sick or maybe-" She stopped as York put a hand on her shoulder.
"Give the guy some air." He said pulling her away from him and let him again plummet to the ground. not as hard but still.
"Oh for the love of- York get the kid to the med bay and see whats wrong." Carolina says putting her cards down.
"No!" He says dizzily getting on his feet still pale. "Just...dizzy. I think...I just need some sleep after the next one." He held his head and took a deep breath. He was fine, everything was fine, he just needed some sleep.
Wyoming looked at the boy with a pitiful glance. "Chap you don't have to-" A glare from Carolina sent his voice to oblivion.
She walked over and tapped her helmet. Instantly a hub for her team and her vitals appeared. It was a standard issue application really, even came with a voice enhancer. Looking over to Kale his armor had apparently been picked up by her helmet since it was freelancer armor making him technically apart of her team. Carolina tapped her helmet again to zero in on his vitals. All that came up was a bit of static...a bug maybe? That was prototype armor.
Kale slowly started to regain color in his face constantly being pestered by C.T if he was alright. "Look I just had a little...panic attack. Just let me take a few breaths ok?"
C.T seemed fine with the answer but Carolina still kept her eyes on Kale.
A.I Control Core
The control core room was in the main center of the ship below the bridge. It was mainly a giant room with a metallic sphere shaped cube with circuity all around it. The room itself was made up of screens on the walls detailing the amount of power it had, any malfunctions, coding and everything.
North growled as he sparks flew out of wires. "Dammit...come on the backups should be online right now, whats the matter with you." He mumbled as he looked up to the control screen. "South any change?"
South looked down from a table filled with computer code. "No North the numbers that I don't know anything about haven't changed." She replied her attitude the same as always.
"Alright can you find anything that might have caused all this stuff to stop working?" North said his voice clearly agitated.
Rolling her eyes she quietly tapped a few buttons. "Looks like the power situation left her drained North. Most of the power is making the processing power lag...but that should have been corrected by now..." She bangs a fist on the console.
"Careful! That's very delicate equipment South!" Getting up North went over to the console checking if anything had become disconnected. "You know this is one of my greatest achievements your banging your fist against right South?" He softly caressed the console like petting a kitten.
South rolled her eyes and walked away from him. "Do you need to be such a geek North?"
North tapped on a few keys and a couple of the multi colored lights turned on in the room. "Power is being re routed to A.I control..." He ran over to the A.I control and heard it start humming. "Alright Shelia is restarting and I should be able to take the rest from here." He smiled and rubbed his eyes. "Unless you want to hang out with your nerdy big brother."
South scoffed and waved a hand. "Pass. Not like I did that much to begin with."
Going over to her North put a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, I appreciate you even came with me to begin with."
Blinking and looking away she tried not to smile. "So you wanted to talk to me about something bro?" South folded her arms in a little as to try and protect herself.
North's frame sagged a bit and he leaned on a nearby wall. "What's the deal between-"
South held up a hand and sighed. "Me and Wash are fine North. I know the punk and even if I'm in trouble..." She smiled. "I know he'll come and get me."
North stared at the floor. He knew that not everything was set in stone but he did truly want to believe South was right...although the way their guest had been acting... "What about Kale?" He questioned.
She stiffened a bit folding her arms tighter.
"South it's ok, he's alive. You don't have to be like this." North said putting a hand on her shoulder.
She beat the hand off her shoulder causing her brother to wince. "You don't know what I feel North. When you try and actively murder a teenage boy then you can lecture me." She shook her head walking out the doors. "Hell the least you could do is yell at me like a normal brother for once!"
The doors slammed shut behind her and North sighed. He could see the immense guilt on her face.
Even if she couldn't.
Training room floor
Once they heard SHELIA's voice again Kale knew that it was time. "Alright know everybody get into your seats..." He yawned out, more tired then he realized. In his spare time he had tried once again to contact Alpha to no avail, this was starting to worry him because if Alpha had bailed on him...he could lose some big bargaining power.
Wyoming and Maine helped set up the chairs talking to one another. "Maine my good man, how you doing this evening?" Wyoming asked with a healthy amount of gusto.
He growled and shrugged setting a chair down.
"Ah I see, targets are going down in my training room, over used the boys said." Wyoming laughed nodding his head. "I couldnt argue with them, but I did get quite the deal on the new-"
"Can it you two, just set up the chairs." Carolina said over by Kale. As the pair went back to setting up chairs she set her eyes back on Kale. "You really think we shouldn't wait for the twins?"
Kale shook his head looking to the door. "Look...I am completely sure about this. If South or North sees this...log?" He said almost as if he didn't know what to call it. "It will not end well for anybody, I already sent York outside to stall South or North if they come near this place."
Carolina looked at Kale skeptically. If this was so bad he actually had to take action for someone not to see it... "Ok fine. I'm giving the full report to the Director though." She adds in after thought.
"Fine but whatever you do Carolina, do not tell North or South anything about this one, just call it off limits or something...you can do that right?" Kale said gesturing to her almost tauntingly.
"Don't make me shoot you Kale." Carolina said stepping away and into her chair.
Kale could have sworn he heard a tone in her voice that resembled kindness but just swore it off as another delusion created by sleep deprivation. "FILLIS!" He called out above getting into his chair. "Start up the next one alright?"
"B-B-Beg-Beginning play-playback."
Director: Dear Chairman.
Getting used to hearing the Directors voice the reaction of the group watching was not as immediate as per usual.
Fade in to some rocky terrain, with Meta shooting at South inside a round, translucent shield
Seeing their teammate in combat however drove their senses high up. Finally getting a good look at the Meta in action Carolina and most of the others couldn't deduce what weapon he was using. "Maybe, a close combat grenade launcher?" C.T mumbled thinking out loud.
Director: The Meta is nothing more than an entity seeking to increase its power, in these confusing days after the war. From my perspective, that seems to be a very common occurrence at the moment.
Maine growled a little under his breath. Everyone tries to gain power...it just matters if you get caught or not that's the real problem.
South: Delta, report.
Delta: Your suit's energy reserves are nearly depleted. The shield will not-
South: How much longer?
"Not long enough..." Carolina said fists clenched her eyes widening.
Delta: The Meta will breach our barrier within sixty seconds. I suggest that you prepare your grenades while I divert power from your armor's non-essential systems.
South: No.
Delta: You have a better plan?
"Please South just listen to the thing!" She said pounding her fist against a nearby chair that was sent hurtling into a wall.
South: Keep the shield up as long as you can. When it starts to falter, transfer yourself to the storage unit.
Delta: I think I would be more useful in my current state.
South: I'll dump my shield generator at the same time. There's no way that thing can resist the both of you.
C.T narrowed her eyes a little bit. Was South abandoning her equipment to this thing? That was some of the most advanced technology in the military and she was using it as bait to get away? That...that was almost to cowardly to be the South she had come to know.
Delta: You are... abandoning me?
South: It's my best chance to get out of this.
Alpha's mind spurted back to life thinking of Kale. Would he abandon him if given the same situation or would he remain loyal to him and die.
He put himself back into the empty thoughts of his code. Something needed to be done.
Delta: South, protocol violations aside, this seems to be a very short term solution. The Meta will only grow more powerful by integrating me in to-
South: Program override, acknowledge last directive.
Wyoming tensed up and grinded his teeth together. It was a habit he had in combat constantly grinding his teeth before each sniper shot. His dental bills went through the roof when he got into the military.
Delta: Acknowledged. Preparing storage unit.
South: Get ready.
Delta: Shield failure in five, four-
South: Get ready to eject.
Delta: Three-
South: Transfer to storage.
Delta: Two-
South: On my mark-
Delta: One.
South: Now!
A grenade goes off at the perimeter of the shield, and Church, Caboose and Washington come over the hill in two jeeps
All of the freelancers let out a deep breath one of the biggest being Carolina. "Ok then Wash is there to give covering fire, South kills this thing and they go home right Kale?" Carolina said looking over her shoulder.
Kale had his hands covering his mouth as he shook his head.
Carolina shook her head firmly and looked back. South would survive she had to survive!
Washington: There they are!
Delta: New targets encountered.
Washington: Don't let it get near her!
The vehicles all crash and are abandoned and people start firing at each other, with Washington behind a rock and Church and Caboose behind a wall
Everyone in the room noticed the combat positions. They were all basic when dealing with a bigger adversary when they had bigger guns.
Maine of course rolled his eyes under his helmet. It's not like it ever really worked.
Washington: And don't let her get away!
Church: Her? Isn't she a Freelancer like you?
Washington: Yeah, just don't let her leave!
Church: Okay! Caboose!
"Oh no." Washington moaned and scared Kale nearly to death. The guy had been so quiet he had barely noticed he was still in the room. Which was a pretty big accomplishment considering everything going on. "Not this guy..."
Caboose: Hello.
Church: Hey, see that purple one? She's on our team. You should help her.
Caboose: Okay!
Caboose stands up and shoots South
"Son of a bitch!" Carolina screamed out almost in unison everyone excluding Maine and Kale did the same.
South: Ah, my stomach!
Delta: Alarm, friendly fire!
Caboose: Um, she got in the way when I was trying to help her.
"Oh I'll help you with a grenade launcher!" C.T managed with a mangled growl while Carolina was steaming from her seat.
Church: Okay we're good!
Meta walks forward and goes invisible. Wash joins Caboose and Church behind the wall
Washington got a cold feeling in his stomach. He wished he could just run away from this fight but South was in trouble and it was his duty to protect her...even if he may not want to.
Washington: Damn. It's gone invisible.
Washington: Keep an eye on your motion trackers, and watch your perimeters, look for a shimmer.
Church: It turned invisible? What is this thing?
"Finally the idiots ask an intelligent question." C.T mumbled her eyes slightly shimmering with the hope of this being the lucky break of information she so desperately needed.
Washington: It takes the equipment of other Freelancers, it must have picked up cloaking from Tex.
Church: Wait a second, any equipment?
Washington: Yes! Why?
Church: Shit, Wyoming. Cover me!
Carolina felt her heartbeat go to a stop. Looking over her shoulder Kale had an almost ghost like expression on his face. Carolina walked over and knelled down in front of him her voice tired. "Is...is Wyoming..." She blinked and wiped her red eyes. "Is Reggie dead?"
Kale simply nodded in response.
Washington threw his helmet onto the ground. Another freelancer he couldn't save? Was he always going to be like this? Just some idiot with a rifle who can't save his friends?
Wyoming slumped against the wall looking over towards Maine a smirk on his pale face. "At least I went down fighting right chap?"
Maine slowly nodded knowing that's how his friend would want to go out.
C.T laid back in her chair trying to absorb all of this in. Whoever this...thing was...he was going to be at the end of her rifle by the time this was over.
Church jumps the wall and runs forward
Washington: What? Wyoming? Caboose, cover him. Grab those spike grenades.
Church: No! Don't let Caboose help me!
"Very nice idea..." C.T mumbled still reeling from the shock.
The Meta decloaks to fire very large shells at Church
Church: There it is! Hey! How 'bout a little help out here?
Washington: On it. Caboose! Toss that grenade!
Caboose throws the grenade right in to the wall, where it sticks for a few seconds for dramatic effect
The whole group face palmed silently not having the collective willpower to curse him out. Honestly they were getting used to his new brand of stupidity. It would be very funny had their friend not died seconds before.
Washington: That was the worst throw, ever. Of all time.
Caboose: Not my fault, someone put a wall in my way.
Washington and Caboose both jump the wall as the grenade goes off, propelling them higher, at the same time as Church fires a rocket at the Meta's head before the Meta freezes time. The Meta backs away from the rocket, walks over underneath Wash and pulls his pistol and aims at him, then suffers some kind of electrical charge and time resumes as he exits.
"What?" Carolina said her mouth dropping.
"D-did he...b-but..." C.T said pointing at the screen.
"I have some really bloody good future gear coming in the future don't I young chap?" Wyoming said his mood going up a bit at the sight of his amazing time gear in action.
"Oh yeah." Kale said a small smile on his face. "The best technology in the universe and everyone in the future uses it like assholes."
Washington: What? Where did it go, what happened?
Caboose: You don't remember? You threw a grenade that landed in between us. But don't worry, I saved you.
"Y-You did-d..." Carolina seemed to developed a tick in her right eye.
Church: It used Agent Wyoming's stupid time thing from the ship! What's wrong with you, why didn't you tell us it could use equipment?
Washington: Why didn't you tell me that Wyoming was on the ship?
"Fair point." Washington muttered.
Caboose: And why didn't someone give me something to yell about!?
South: Mmm, ah... (continues to groan)
"South! Oh damnit she's hit..." Carolina said looking at South her eyes scanning the wound. It was pretty bad for a soldier in her current situation.
Washington: Delta, are you here?
Delta: Affirmative, I am undamaged. However Agent South is seriously wounded. May I suggest moving me to a new host.
Washington: Roger that. I don't trust her anyway. One of you two take him.
"Jesus Christ please tell me you didn't just suggest..." Wyoming moaned out.
Church: Um... I don't think that I can-
Caboose: I'll do it! I like meeting new people.
"Oh ok Wash give it to the idiot." C.T said pounding her head lightly against her fist.
Caboose walks over and kneels next to her, and the A.I. jumps to him
Washington: Delta, what happened?
Delta: I agree with the simulation trooper. The Meta has most likely acquired both a temporal distortion unit, and an A.I. capable of running it. In this case, Gamma.
"I had an A.I? I must say I had to be quite formidable." Wyoming boasted puffing his chest out.
Kale scratched the back of his head remembering how Wyoming was killed...by said simulation troopers. "Uh...yeah man you were...unmatched...really."
He seemed to buy it for the moment.
Washington: Well, why didn't it kill us then?
Delta: I am sorry, but I do not have enough data to formulate an answer. I think we should simply be happy it is gone.
Church: That makes sense to me.
"Agreed, now get South to a doctor Wash!" Carolina harshly whispered to herself praying for her teammates safety.
Caboose: I also agree with the glowing person. Everyone else sees the glowing person, right?
Delta: It is possible the Meta has been injured in some way, and is retreating to repair itself.
Washington: So, if we can find it before it does, we may actually stand a chance of beating it.
Maine snorted at that little conversation. Beating, just meant killing in a more gentlemen like fasion. Wyoming used it a whole lot more then Maine ever did.
Church: Either way, I don't think we should be hanging around here.
Washington: Then let's get moving.
South: I can-, I can't walk on my own.
"Well that shouldn't be a problem...I mean I can just-" Washington started.
Washington: Well I guess you'd better start crawling. If you think I'm leaving you here to escape you've got another thing coming.
Washington was shocked out of his statement and uttered a little whimper.
Delta: Agent Washington, if I may. Before you arrived, South attempted to turn me over to the Meta, to save herself.
Carolina paled at the fact she knew something like that meant some serious jail time and even...no she wouldn't think like that. Washington wasn't like her...he was...he was Wash!
Washington: Really.
Delta: Much like she wounded you to escape in our previous encounter with it. And as I have learned, in our travels, her brother North suffered a similar fate.
"Oh my God..." Carolina said a new layer of dread going over her whole body. South...her own brother...her teammate...s-she just...
Even Maine the most monstrous of the freelancers had to admit that South was the new number 1 of his top 10 never go on a mission with list. Caboose was still a strong number 2 though.
Washington had to hold his stomach because he thought he was going to be sick. South left him to that thing? Shot in the back and dying?!
Washington: What a team player.
Delta: It is highly probable that she will turn on us again soon, and in her current physical state, she will only hamper our progress.
Washington: What are you suggesting?
A wave of silence hit the room so hard you'd think they all would've been unconscious or dead. They all now realized why Kale had locked North and South out. It wasn't to keep them out of the loop but to save them from this.
Delta: That we do not allow her to hamper our progress.
Washington: Okay.
"NO!" Washington said getting out of his chair screaming at the scene to stop.
Carolina and Maine went over to restrain him with Wyoming looking down at the floor.
C.T put a gentle hand on Kale who was shedding tears. "I'm sorry..."
Washington loads his pistol and aims it at South
South: Oh come on, Wash. What're you gonna do, shoot-
Wash shoots her right in the face
Wash was screaming hysterically now Carolina was half tempted to knock him out but her and Maine kept holding him down. "I'M NOT A MONSTER, I'M NOT!"
Kale held his head which was starting to throb now...it was so intense...
Washington: Yes. Good suggestion.
Delta: You're welcome.
Church: Dude, you guys are some cold mother fuckers.
"Kale? Kale are you okay?" C.T said shaking him a bit. He had fallen unconscious in her arms. C.T called for Wyoming to help bring Kale to his room.
Washington was unconscious as well...Maine had decided to knock him out...put the poor soldier out of his sad misery.
Caboose: I just want everyone to know that I have no problems walking. And I take full responsibility for the grenade incident.
"Shut the projector off...shut off..." Carolina muttered her voice almost broken.
"Complying." The ships A.I sounded off not so scratchy anymore.
Carolina looked over to Maine and then back to Wash, he got the message. He helped carry the guy out of the room behind Kale.
On the way out they met the faces of a shocked North, South and York. They didn't say a word.
Nobody did.
Another chapter out and hopefully another happy fan base.
Speaking of fan base it is time for our rooster teeth quote of the week! This week we take a very good look at the sportsmanship and friendliness of achievement hunter with Geoff and Gavin after he wins the hunger games Minecraft let's play.
Geoff walks over to Gavin in his chair
Geoff: Congratulations on a good game.
Geoff shakes Gavin's hand then nails Gavin in the stomach with an audible THUD.
Gavin: GAH!
Micheal: To be fair he did shake his hand.
Please review and enjoy your evenings.
