Clara
"Why are you here, Clara?" Alaric asked. I looked around the well decorated room deciding what I was going to tell him. "I'm hunting a group of witches that have been hijacking the minds of wolf packs throughout the country for nefarious purposes." I said observing a chip in my nail polish, "God that bugs me," I thought. "Anything else?" he asked not believing that I was telling him all the truth. I sighed, "Why are you doubting me? I'm just doing my job," I said looking him in the eye.
"Yes well your job is to hunt the people in this house who happen to be my friends," My brother said. "Have they indulged in any killing sprees lately?" I asked rolling my eyes. "Maybe Enzo but the others no." He said. "Well then they have nothing to fear from me now do they," I said strolling out of the room my brother had dragged me into for those accusations.
"So Clara how long are you staying?" Damon asked with a glass of golden alcohol in his hand. "As long as it takes to rid this town of mind controlling witches and homicidal immortals," I said with a smile. He looked taken aback and wary. "She's joking about the vampire part," Alaric said emerging from the interrogation room. Damon still seamed cautious of me and he didn't come near me when there was something even resembling a stake, although it was pointless. I could have staked him any time I wanted there were five stashed in various places in my clothing.
I heard a loud bang as the front door slammed shut behind the chestnut vampire from last night. Alverna I think her name was. "Please come in," Damon said sarcastically downing his fourth drink. "Ah just the person I came to see," She said strolling towards me. I was surprised, what business did I have with her. "You ended a slaughter and helped my family to win the battle, so accept this as a thank you," She said holding out something wrapped in a red silk cloth. I took it and unwrapped the gift. It was a thin sharp knife about the length of my forearm. The delicate hilt had carvings of wolves and a glowing blue stone on the tiny pommel.
"It's a knife specially designed to kill vampires," She said, "the stone will glow blue when a vampire is near you and white when you are in danger." I was in love with this dagger but I couldn't keep it, I'd hardly done anything. "I can't accept this," I said handing the beautiful weapon back. Alverna laughed, "What am I going to do with a Hunter's weapon? No you keep it." she gave the knife back, "Oh, I almost forgot," She said talking another silk wrapped object out of her leather purse.
She unwrapped what looked like a sheath for the tiny sword and an oddly shaped stone. "This is it's sheath," She told me handing the leather case to me, "And this is it's whetstone," The oddly shaped stone was steel grey and shaped like a triangle. "Don't use anything else to sharpen the blade or else it will shatter," Alverna instructed. I nodded, placing the beautiful knife into it's sheath and plopping the whetstone into a triangular pocket on it's side. "And one more thing," Alverna said, "It's name is stjärna bladet, The Star Blade."
"Why?" I asked. "It's named that because the metal that made it fell from the sky in a rain of fire," She said. I was surprised I didn't expect that. "That's really awesome!" I said smiling and watching the blade catch the sun light a reflect it. "Be careful Clara, That blade has spilt more human blood than vampire," Alverna said ominously before departing. "Can I look at it?" Damon asked. I held it out to him and he turned it over in his hands. He screamed out in pain when his skin touch the blade. The stone began to glow red as his blood trickled down the little sword. "Well that's useful," I said snatching the dagger back. "Keep that thing in it's case," He growled leaving the room. I smiled to myself, "I think i'll give you a nickname, how about Star? Yes I like that," I said humming softly as I cleaned Damon's blood off Star.
Caroline
My eyes fluttered open and I saw sunlight streaming though a window. "Where the hell am I?" I asked aloud, not recognising my surroundings. "My bedroom," A very familiar voice said. I tried to turn around but my legs were tangled in the pristine white sheets of the giant bed I was lying in. I heard an infuriating chuckle as a I thrashed and ripped the sheets off me. When I was finally free I launched myself out of the bed and threw Klaus into a wall. I heard a faint crack as I slammed him into the plaster.
"Don't laugh a me Niklaus." I growled. I let him go and in the corner of my eye I saw my reflection. "Ugh, I need a shower." I mumbled to myself seeing how untidy and dishevelled I looked. "The bathroom is though that door," Niklaus said grinning and pointing to a intricately carved redwood door. "Where's your sister?" I asked annoyed because of the gleam of laughter in his gorgeous eyes. "Probably tending to her vervain infused lover," He answered. "Oh," I said. I looked at my reflection again and realised that I really needed a shower. So I strode over to the door and was about to open it when I was interrupted. "Try not to drown, I don't want to have to save you again," He smirked.
I ignored him and slammed the door behind me. I could feel him smirking. "Why couldn't he find someone else to annoy?" I muttered to myself, turning the shower on and steeping in. I sighed in relief as the hot hot water cascaded onto my skin. My anger and frustration evaporated, and was replaced with uncaring bliss. Until Niklaus intruded on my thoughts again. "Why me? What is he trying to do?" I thought running my fingers though my hair.
I didn't have any answers to my questions when I got out of the shower. The room was full of steam and I could barely see anything. When the mist dissipated I could see a pile of towels and a stand alone mirror. I looked at my reflection and saw a hideous bite mark on my midsection. The puncture wounds had turned an inflamed red and I could see pus welling up under the surface of my skin. "Holy crap, Why isn't that healing?" I said, wrapping a towel around myself and barging outside.
Niklaus was lounging on a love seat with a leather bound book in his hands. When he saw the panicked look on my face he dropped the book and raced over. "What's wrong?" He asked, resting his hands on my water dappled shoulders. "The bite, It's not healing." I said. "Come with me," He said pulling me towards the door. "Umm Klaus, I can't go out there," I said. He stopped, "Why?" "Well, um I'm kinda naked," I said blushing profusely and looking a the wooden floor. He laughed. "This isn't funny!" I said. I could tell he was trying very hard to stop but he couldn't.
He was collapsed on the floor cackling when Alverna and Finn barged in. "What..." Finn said seeing his brother lying on the floor almost unable to breath. "Caroline, What's going on?" Alverna asked me, confusion and amusement on her face. "I don't know," I said. Alverna studied me. "Care, do you want some clothes?" She asked. "Oh, yes," I said blushing again. Niklaus was starting to calm down, "Her bites not healing," He said every trace of humour gone from his eyes.
Alverna's eyes were filled with sorrow and pain. "I'm sorry Caroline, but you're going to die." She whispered with tears forming in her eyes. "No." Niklaus said. "I won't allow it," His expression was one of determination and smothered pain. "How I thought Klaus's blood healed werewolf bites," I said scared, I didn't want to die, my life had only just begun there was so much I wanted to experience. "Normally it does but one on a million vampires have a reaction and your body fights the blood and weakens itself then the bite takes hold. Show me your bite." Alverna said. "Could you boys turn around please," I asked blushing.
I knew that klaus smirked but I didn't care right now. I unfolded my towel and Alverna poked and prodded the wound. She made a hand gesture for me to close my towel. "You've only got about a day before the hallucinations start and then only two from there," Alverna told me with tears welling in her eyes. "A day," I said, refusing to cry "um well some clothes would be appreciated I have to say goodbye." Alverna was about to lead me to her room when Klaus grabbed my arm. I looked back at him and saw real pain and anger in his eyes. I was shocked, Niklaus didn't care about anyone but his siblings. "You will not die." He said. "Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I think it's too late," I answered with a sad smile. "It's never too late." He said letting me go.
"I've never seen him like this," Alverna said. "Like what?" I asked. "Like he'd walk to the ends of the earth just to hurl himself off if it would save you," She answered opening the door to her room. "Why would he do that?" I asked but I think I already knew the answer. "Because he loves you Caroline Forbes," She said looking me in the eye, "The only question is; can you love him back?" I was stunned, "He has destroyed towns just for fun and torn apart lovers so he could play mind games, but he wasn't always like that, and he isn't always like that now. You've change him, when he's with you it's like I've got my brother back." She told me, "When we where all human he carved this for me," She said untying a silk pouch from around her neck and taking out a white bird. "I've kept it around my neck for over a millennium, and now I want you to have it." Alverna said holding the little wooden animal out.
My fingers traced over it's wings and felt every feather. "It's amazing," I said gazing at the tiny creature. Alverna then grabbed some clothes for me and I got dressed. I held the little bird in my hand as we where about to leave but then I realised, "I'm only going to be alive for a few days, I can't take this from her," so I but the little bird on her dressing table and followed the vampire out.
Alverna went into a room across the hall after saying goodbye and I retraced my steps to Niklaus's bedroom. I was about to knock on the door when the devil himself walked up behind me. "Why on earth are you coming back here?" Kol said. "Hello Kol, where's you brother?" I asked drawing on every reserve of positivity I had. "Why do you care about were he is when I'm here?" He said closing the gap between us. "Kol, just tell me." I said losing my patience. He frowned then sighed, "Niklaus is in the library." "Thank you," I said flashing him a quick smile before walking down the hall towards the library.
I had a rough approximation of were the library was from my tour of the mansion Alverna gave me. However I got lost in the maze. I swore under my breath and retraced my steps to the main hallway, luckily Sage found me. "Hi Sage," I said hurrying to the red haired vampire's side. "Hi Caroline," "Um would you mind doingme a favour?" I asked sheepishly. "Sure, what is it?" She answered. "Could you show me where the library is please?" I asked. She laughed, it was musical in a way, "Of course follow me," Sage said turning around and walking down the hallway.
With someone to guide me the labyrinth the originals lived in seamed more like a child's maze. When we got to the beautiful redwood double doors Sage left me. I took a deep breath and walked in. "Klaus!" I called. It was disheartening to hear an echo. There were book shelves everywhere. The shelves loomed to the top of the room and I couldn't see an end. "Caroline?" Niklaus said walking out from behind a bookshelf. I smiled at him. "Hi," I said. He smiled back.
I was nervous, terrified even, "Is this how I really wanted to spend my last hours of lucidity?" Then my resolved hardened, "Yes it is," I thought. My feet carried me over to him confidently and I wrapped my arms around his neck. He seamed surprised and I'm pretty sure that he was even more surprised when I pulled him into a very heated kiss. We crashed into a bookshelf and I got pressed up against it. "I can think of a better place to do this," I said smirking. He chuckled and we ran to his bedroom.
So, What do you think? Please don't be too mad about the Caroline thing, to tell the truth I was almost crying when I wrote that bit
