~TWO YEARS LATER~
The weather was undoubtedly content. The sun wasn't brutal and there wasn't a cloud in sight.
It was a typical day in Mystic Falls.
Bonnie sighed, shoving the last of her belongings into the car. She smiled, unable to believe that this was actually happening.
"You ready?" Kol asked as she climbed into the passenger seat. He had his trademark shades on and she rolled her eyes. As much as she hated to admit it, she loved his snarky humor.
Bonnie took one last look at her Grams' house before nodding. "Yeah. More than ready."
"Did you talk to Matt?" Kol asked.
"Yes, he said that Rebekah accidentally set the door on fire the other night, though," Bonnie said with a slight frown. Rebekah and Matt were currently on a European road trip and had been gone for two weeks now.
"Doing what, exactly?" Kol asked in astonishment. His sister had pretty much mastered her magic, why was she setting things on fire?
"Things might have gotten out of hand when they were, you know," Bonnie gave him a look.
Three seconds later, Kol made a face.
"That's incredibly disgusting and I didn't need to know that," he said.
Bonnie laughed. "You asked!"
"Well you could have left a little more discretion. I don't want to know the freaky things my little sister does with her human boyfriend."
Bonnie raised a brow and smiled. "You do realize that I'm a human, right?"
Kol shrugged. "You're also a witch. Matthew Donovan is a regular human male."
"You're so weird," she said, shaking her head. It was a miracle that they got along so well. Well enough for their relationship to still be going strong after two whole years. At first they had kept it under wraps, not wanting to publicly display any affection after that kiss they'd shared in front of Rebekah, Matt, and Grams.
They wanted to take things slow and as of yet, they hadn't repeated the three words. There was no cause to; Kol knew how she felt and she knew how he felt. It was an unspoken affection, one that didn't need to be filled with words. Instead it was filled with soft, discreet touches and fervent secret moments.
But for Bonnie, it was enough. He was enough.
The New Orleans skyline was a comforting sight. After the events of the ritual, Klaus had decided to leave Mystic Falls. If he were being brutally honest, he didn't belong there anyway. It might have been his home a thousand years ago, but times changed and so did people.
He took another swig of scotch.
"I thought we agreed that daytime drinking wasn't acceptable?"
Klaus smiled. "You were the one that said that, not me," he turned around, his eyes playful. "Any more whimsical comments, Caroline?"
The blonde smiled her signature smile. "You're such a nark, you know that?" she wrapped her arms loosely around his neck, their bodies touching. Even through her robe she could feel his warmth. They'd spent the entire day trying to help Hayley find traces of her family but seemed like they'd vanished without a trace. "What's on your mind?"
He shrugged. "I'm wondering how we could have possibly gotten here from where we began."
"Easy. You kidnapped me and we were thrown into a mess of things with two lunatics."
"Always so blunt, thanks love."
Caroline rolled her eyes, closing the space between them with a sensual kiss. Even after being with him for what seemed like forever, her body still reacted like a little teenage girl, falling ever so quickly for a boy. The thing was, she wasn't a teenager anymore and he wasn't a boy—he was a man who'd lived for so long. Not to mention that she was definitely not the same. She was an experienced witch hybrid who had learned how to kick ass over the years.
But a side of her knew that they weren't really destined to live a quite life. Klaus had enemies left and right, and Caroline wasn't exactly safe by association or her heritage. And there was something troubling her, something that had sparked within the past couple of weeks. She felt something in the pit of her stomach—different. Caroline didn't really know if it was because she'd begun to overthink things or because of some greater threat looming.
It's nothing, she tried to convince herself. This is life. This is now.
She smiled against Klaus' lips, her entire body humming, so accustomed to his touches.
His hands roamed her body, sending sparks of desire coursing through her. Caroline deepened the kiss, causing him to moan softly. Suddenly he broke the kiss as he swooped her up into his arms, heading swiftly to their bedroom.
Whatever troubles she had could wait another day.
"The girl is happy," an elder said.
"I hope she'd be after everything she went through. From losing her father to dying herself then being resurrected."
"She was ready to pass on at that time—yet she couldn't be a martyr, I believe is what she said," a woman said. "Her love for the hybrid was too great."
There was a chorus of voices as they chimed in agreements.
"Her journey is far from over," a map said. "As is his."
"Indeed," the woman responded. "They don't have a clue what's in store for them in the near future. Their paths have only just begun to merge together."
"And Niklaus—" the male said. "He has a much greater discovery awaiting him."
"How do we know if she's ready for this kind of commitment?" another female voice asked.
There was a collective wave of murmurs.
"We have to believe that she'll embrace it. She must."
"That child," a female started. "That child is going to be targeted by both good and bad."
"Then they'll have to do everything in their power to protect the child," the male responded. "The fates of the supernatural and mortal worlds depend on it."
So that concludes Seven Devils! I'd just like to take a moment to thank those of you who took the time to review. I know I strung you guys along for almost two years for just 20 chapters—it was tough. It's tough to balance posting, schoolwork, extra-curriculars, and person writing. (I mean I'm just one person here and sometimes the updates aren't always flawless. Like, PRAISE to those writers who update constantly and still have time for life. I'm still getting the hang of it).
I hope you guys enjoyed the ending and (maybe) if you guys would be into it, I can start the sequel. Then again, that all depends on whether or not you guys would want to even read it, I know how frustrating it was to wait for these updates.
Anyway, I'm glad you guys stuck around to the end.
Until next time!
