Till Death Do Us Apart

Everything went still as the gears and sparks flew into the air. Both Gwen and Peter's eyes met as she plunged at lightning speed to the bottom of the clock tower. Her hand reached up towards him for a split second. There was no sound coming from her. Gwen could feel her heart race as she was flew down watching Peter above as Spider-man jumping around frantically. Peter was right about something happening to her. Deep down inside she could feel the guilt from when she thought everything was going to be fine.

A web shot out of Peter's band from around his wrist. The end of a web stretched out into a hand reaching towards his love. The small hand of hope barely got between the many gears that were still flying around. It soon reached Gwen, latching onto her clothing, but by the time that it did it was too late.

Just inches before the concrete below came up to fast behind Gwen Stacy closed her eyes for one last time after peering at Peter bracing for what was to come. The force from the web stopped her descending body and her body arced back from a whiplash. It stopped her from hitting the ground, but there was a snap from her neck and the blow of her head to the concrete from being too close to the bottom, and the life flew out of her with her last breath. It was all too quick for Gwen. Painless.

Peter searched for Gwen below and soared down to her limp body hanging from the thin web. Dread of what could had happened filled his heart as he kept whispering over and over if she was okay. When he laid her body down after detaching her from the web his heart shattered into splinters within his chest, slicing up his insides. The color was still in Gwen's face as he gently shook her hoping that her eyes would open and that brightening smile would appear. Imagining it in his head he waited, but only getting nothing but her closed eyes covered in her dark eyeshadow. Tears were threatening to spill as he watched her not believing his own eyes that she could be gone forever.

Peter held her head so delicately as he sat there afraid he would do more damage than what could have been already done. She could not be gone. She couldn't be. There was so much in life ahead for her. It was all his fault.

Off in the shadows of the clock tower he could see Gwen's father. Captain Stacy's eyes trailed down to the body of his only daughter and moved back up to Peter with nothing but emptiness. Peter was about to say something but he couldn't find his voice anymore. He failed and broke his promise to the late police officer. If he hadn't let his feelings get in the way and stayed away from her then she wouldn't have-

Peter couldn't bring himself to think of that awful word. The word that would follow after Gwen Stacy's name was spoken.

Dead.

Captain Stacy disappeared from the shadows. His last words that he had spoken echoed in Peter's head over and over again. Peter sobbed into the crook of Gwen's neck and held her tightly, not wanting to let go. Not wanting to let her go.

Leave Gwen out of it.
