Okay. I am not 'that' sorry for ending the last chapter like that. :D
It was shorter than I wanted, I wanted it to be long to make up for being gone for so long, but that seemed a perfect way to end it.
Sorry again for the wait, story's almost done!
With love.
The graveyard in the candy kingdom was a quiet place.
There were no actual subject's tombstones here, seeing as they never died. But the small white honorary stones listed the monsters Fionna had slain to keep them safe. They were markers of all she had done for the kingdom.
Marshall stood towards the entrance breathing hard. He didn't know if he could go in there, he thought back to Fionna. How strong... How beautiful.. How in pain. His eyes welled with tears, and his body seemed to burn. Tears flowed down his cheeks.
He didn't want to go in the castle and see Gumball. He knew he would just kick him out, not like he couldn't get in.
He fell to his knees and curled on his side. He could hear running in the castle, Gumball yelling. He blinked hard. He couldn't do this. He couldn't leave like this, escaping his problems, he always ran away, but Fionna meant more than that. He stood, and looked out at the grave yard, no...
He wasn't going to fly through it, the shortcut to his home, and go straight to the Night-O-Sphere, Fionna was his. He floated back, and started returning to the castle, quickly all be it, and he felt more numb with each foot he traveled. He focused on Gumball's voice.
Prince Gumball held Fionna's body in his arms as he bolted through the halls of his castle, in the most undignified manner. He yelled for Peppermint maid, as the swinging doors to the hospital wing slammed open. He deposited Fionna in a bed as quickly and as gently as he could, before yanking on his doctor coat and washing his hands as fast as he could.
The door slammed open again, and Marshall landing unevenly stumbled in, looking a little lost. He gazed at Fionna, his face blank. Gumball watched him, feeling sorry for the vampire. Peppermint maid came in as he yanked on gloves. "I need you to step in the hall please." Gumball directed at Marshall, who didn't move. Peppermint maid walked up and gently took Marshall's hand and led him to a bench just out side.
"Please stay here." She squeaked out, and turned to return to Gumball.
Marshall's face stayed blank. He felt blank, but he knew he would be more than useless in the room at this point. He couldn't do anything, so he had to leave the doctoring up to Gumball.
Their were still only two heart beats near by.
He felt hollow.
He could hear Gumball yelling instructions, sounding more and more worried each time.
"Fi." He breathed quietly. He listened as hard as he could, focusing on the blood slowly congealing in the human. A faint beat sounded.
A soft gurgling, as Fi tried to breathe, Gumball fruitlessly encouraging her. Marshall focused on her breathing, his eyes shut tight. His eyes sprung open, her throat was too swollen to let her breathe.
Marshal was out of his seat in an instant, sucking in a big breath of oxygen, and in the room landing right next to her. Gumball said something but he grabbed Fionna's mouth, and breathe the air into her.
Fionna kicked her legs out hard, as from peacefully drifting to sleep her throat blazed like fire.
The air in Fionna's lung rushed out and she inhaled hard, but found that she couldn't. She panicked, eyes open, the light above her blurring. Gumball was filling a syringe with something, and little black spots appeared in her vision, before another gust of air was forced past her throat. Her vision was slowly returning, and Gumball rolled her head to the side, and her throat stung harder. She looked up at Gumball's concerned face.
Oxygen filled her mouth and lungs again, and she still wasn't sure how. She looked to her other side as the air left her, and saw Marshall. He sucked in a big breath, and leaned down. Fionna couldn't move, and his lips touched hers, as air filled her, making her chest rise.
She began coughing as the swelling went down, and she shakily breathed all by herself. Her head pounded painfully, and Gumball caught her as her body collapsed to the side. He gently guided her to an upright sitting position. Gumball's brightly red flushed face from his panic slowly relaxed.
"You're in the candy kingdom Fionna. Marshall Lee brought you here, you almost died out there today." Fionna looked up at him and nodded, rubbing her burning throat. She looked to Marshall.
"Thanks." Fionna felt red in the face. Leave it to her to actually need to get rescued, add by the guy she liked. Marshall leaned back and laughed,
"Guess you can't do it all by yourself all the time." Fionna chuckled weakly. Gumball frowned at Marshall before grabbing Fionna's wrist checking her pulse.
"You need to sleep Fi." Fionna shrugged and laid down and Gumball looked at Marshall Lee. "I need a word." Peppermint maid helped Fionna get comfy as Gumball practically dragged Marshall out of the room.
'What?" the vampire said, eyes on Fionna from the glass pane in the swinging door.
"We need to talk about this." He said sternly, gesturing to Fionna now laying on her back, gently covered i blankets, the monitor beeping quietly. "Yeah, she was out fighting, I saw her get hurt, I wasn't going to leave her out there." Marshall said defensively, strategically avoiding the problem.
"And when you said you loved her?" Gumball said, staring him in the face, making him feel uncomfortable.
"Hey candy breath-" he started angrily, and Gumball drew himself to his full height. "I was panicking."
The silence was palatable. "So its true." Gumball said quietly. Marshall hissed and bared his fangs at him and Gumball chuckled and raised his hand. I know, I know, tell no one." He grinned at Marshall who scowled.
Marshall walked passed him and went to Fionna's side, placing a chair besides her bed, and flaming in it, and looking at Gumball, challenging him to tell him to leave. Gumball just nodded at him.
"Treat her well." he whispered as he left and Marshall huffed. Like he was going to anything else. Fionna snorted in her sleep. Quietly he leaned down and kissed her.
"I love you Fionna." he whispered in her ear.
"What?!" Fionna said sitting upright.
