The gifts fate

Chapter 10

Jotunheim wasn't as full of life as it was before the ancient that was clear.

The palace was so empty and quiet, which made Loki shudder.

"You're safe now…" Laufey said as they entered Loki's old room.

It was one of these rare places, that weren't destroyed by the Aesir.

Loki didn't want to think of the pictures that ran through his head…Sometimes he could still smell the blood of his own folk. It was horrible. If only he could have helped them…

"Don't worry, no one will ever harm you again…" Laufey assured and led Loki to the bed. "Rest now, you have gone through much." Laufey said gently, as Loki sat down on his bed, feeling the familiar touch of soft furs beneath his hands.

"Those Asgardians will pay for what they have done to you, I swear." Laufey said in a furious tone, as he saw Loki's empty expression.

'But what about Thor?' Loki thought. He didn't want him to be hurt, even after what he had done to him, he couldn't bear the thought of the father of his unborn child being hurt.

Instead of saying his thoughts out loud, he simply nodded.

Laufey's gaze softened, as he let a hand wander over Loki's belly.

„I will make sure your offspring will have everything it needs. I'm sure it will grow a strong…Jotun." Laufey said lovingly, thought the last word wasn't said easily.

Loki smiled softly at his father. "I'm sure you will…" he mumbled.

"Now." Laufey said and stood up. "I'll leave you to yourself now, you must be really exhausted…Rest a bit." He said and left his confused son behind.

Loki looked after his father, as the big door, made of ice closed.

He took the time to look around…It felt like an eternity since he had last seen this room. It was familiar, but also strange… Loki had spent most of his life here and was snatched away for only a short time, compared to the time he had spent here already…and still…it wasn't the same anymore.

Loki stroked along his swollen belly, a habit that always managed to comfort him, when the Jotun was alone. "At least you're here with me…" he mumbled softly, rubbing small circles in the blue skin.

He laid back and allowed himself to relax and forget for just a while.

He just lay there, trying to feel the creature inside him move.

After some time he must have fallen asleep, he didn't even realize how tired he actually was from all the events.

Meanwhile in Asgard

Thor was standing on the balcony of his room, looking up at the night sky and watching the stars.

"I wonder if Loki's alright…" Thor thought to himself.

Well better than he would have been here…

Who would have guessed his beloved was the Jotun King's son…

The prince wondered what would have happened if Laufey wouldn't have come to take Loki with him. Would have Thor really let his father harm Loki? Would he just have been standing there, till it was over?

Thor shook his head as he didn't really want to think about this now.

All he wanted was to know if Loki was alright and be able to see him, if only for a moment.

He turned away from the sight of the stars, suddenly becoming sick of them. Still feeling guilty, he walked through the now empty room.

He sat down on the bed, in which he had spent so many nights with his beloved.

"I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye to him…" he mumbled, laying his face in his hands.

For the first time in his life, he really had no idea of what he should do…His biggest mistake and at the same time best choice was to let Loki go…

The god looked up as the big doors opened and his father stepped in.

Thor looked away in disgust, his father was the last person he wanted to see right now.

"What do you want from me?" he asked in a bitter tone, not looking at his father as he spoke.

Odin walked towards him, soon standing in front of Thor and looking down at him with a cold and untouched stare.

"I just want to make things clear." He said, keeping an eye at his son's face. "Better forget about that Jotun Prince. After he has given birth to your…child, we will invade Jotunheim when they're not expecting it. After the last Jotuns have been slaughtered and Laufey is arrested, we will take the baby, to make sure you have an heir when the time has come." He said in a monotone voice.

Now Thor finally looked at his father, eyes wide in shock as the words echoed through his mind.

"W-What?" he asked unbelieving.

"You understood me. Don't even try to rebel against my will, so please just accept it. I'm doing this for Asgard, for our own safety." He said and before Thor could even say a word, he had already left the room.

"Damn…" he cursed, rubbing his now aching and throbbing head. "I have to do something…"

The moon was shining through the big window, which was wide open, so Loki could feel the coldness of Jotunheim on his skin and breathe in the fresh air. It was deep at night by now, but Loki couldn't sleep anymore. After having slept for only a few hours and waking up to find his room in darkness, nothing that he tried could make him sleep again.

Even if Loki felt like sleeping, it was impossible with all those kicks coming from the inside of his belly. It was as if the baby knew exactly what happened back in Asgard and if it felt all the trouble, stress and doubts that were going through Loki's mind.

Stroking his belly for hours, Loki just lay in his bed, looking around in the room and trying to calm the baby. He wondered if the baby already missed it's father.

Now that he was alone, he started to think and what he thought made him panicky for the first time in months. It was like that whole time came back to him right now. Only now had the shock of the past events come up to him.

He was pregnant…He will be giving birth to a baby in a short amount of time from now on.

The father's baby is an Aesir, his folk's foe. The prince of those, who attacked Jotunheim months ago and killed most of them.

He wasn't even sure if the baby was Jotun or not. Would it even survive the colds of Jotunheim? Will it be accepted from his kind?

The father of his child almost let him be killed by the king of the Aesir.

"What did I do to deserve something like that?" he asked himself, feeling a single tear flow down his cheek. Feeling the little feet press against his stomach again, he drew circles on the skin of his tummy. 'My fatherless child…' he thought sadly, but forced himself to smile, as if the baby could see it. He could feel it clearly now, the feeling of his stomach growing with every minute that was passing by.

It will be time soon and there was nothing he could do about it.
