Just as young Ben Tennyson felt like he was about to have a boring summer vacation with his grandpa and cousin Gwen, a mysterious alien device from the stars fell into his life! One night while camping by the lake, Ben finally convinces his cousin, Gwen to join in for a swim as they have fun and bond.

After a difficult confrontation with Albedo, Ben's Omnitrix develops a strange and painful defect. He must rely entirely on Gwen, Kevin, and Grandpa Max to find a solution to the problem, while trying to uncover Albedo's psychotic plan, deal with a serious intergalactic problem, and ensure their own physical and mental integrity.

The conflict left the world and it's inhabitants broken. The group splits onto their own path. Ben is left trying to hold himself together; he finds solace in Hope, who guides him away from the ledge. With her experience of overcoming prior trauma, will she be able to bring back the ones she considered family? (A short fic following Ben 10: Defeat of An Empire.)
