Chapter 23
"Why can't I come with you?" Emma asked her parents. It was a loaded question. One in which Patrick nor Robin wanted to fully answer. Robin held Emma close.
"Baby, you know daddy and I are doctors and we have to help people. This person we have to help is very special and he needs special attention and care. Daddy and I are the only ones who can help him."
"If you don't help him, will he stay sick?" Emma asked. Robin kissed the side of her head.
"Yes he will stay sick," she said willing her voice not to crack. She didn't want to think of her father lying on a bed cold and lifeless. She couldn't tell Emma her grandfather might die because of three crazy people.
Robin adjusted Emma on her lap. "Now you promise to be good for aunt Brenda, aunt Liz and uncle Sonny," she said as she looked at the three people behind her.
"I promise mommy," Emma said.
"That's my sweet girl," Robin said. She led Emma to Elizabeth.
"Thanks for doing this," she told them.
"No problem Robin. Emma and I are going to go shopping and get our nails done. She's in good hands," Brenda said. Robin laughed a bit.
"Don't worry Robin," Sonny said. He moved to hug her tight. "Be careful and come back safe," he whispered in her ear.
"I will," she whispered back. She turned to Elizabeth who only gave a teary smile. Worry was clearly written on her face.
"Take care of yourselves," she instructed in a motherly tone.
Patrick and Robin hugged Emma and said their goodbyes. "We'll be back soon."
They got in the car and headed to the airport. Britt and Anna were waiting with Nikolas on the Tarmac.
Anna addressed them first. "How are the both of you doing?"
"Ready to get this over with," Patrick said. Robin nodded her head in agreement.
"Are we ready?" Robin asked.
"We are waiting on one more," Nikolas said.
"Who?" Anna questioned.
Nikolas pointed to the vehicle arriving. Jax got out of the vehicle with a duffle bag in hand. Robin frowned. She didn't want her friend to face off with his brother no matter how hard he claimed he would do anything to stop Jerry.
Jax and Nikolas exchanged nods. He addressed the rest of them with hellos. Jax took note of Robin's not too pleased look. "Surprised to see me," he said.
"Yes. How-
"Nikolas told me. He figured I would want to know my brother's location. Before you protest, there is no talking me out of it. Jerry has gone too far. Now, let's get on the plane."
Thirty minutes later the plane was in the air. Robin and Anna sat next to each other in silence. Each thinking of the man they loved. They had gone through hell and didn't want to endure another crisis.
"Mom," Robin said. Anna turned to her. "Do you think I'll really have to do it?"
Anna turned Robin's head with her hand. "I will not put that burden on you. As much as you want to pull the trigger you can't. You have Emma and Patrick. You going to jail for murder is not an option."
Robin grabbed her hand. "We both know it is still a possibility. Franco," she said.
Anna sighed. "Yes, there is that. I'm sure we can work around it. I will go to jail before you do. You're my baby and I will do anything for you."
Robin leaned her head against the seat. She couldn't shake the part of her that really wanted to look Jerry in the eye and scream at him for turning her into an assassin. It was engrained in her and she was pretty sure she would feel nothing if she killed him. However, the old Robin couldn't just take a life without thinking of consequences. She was conflicted now and she didn't like it.
Meanwhile, Patrick looked straight ahead at the seat his wife occupied. He actually wondered if Robin had it in her to kill Jerry. His wife was being pulled in two directions. She was still his Robin but he couldn't ignore the growing agitation she possessed while they were getting ready.
After they left Spoon Island the previous day, he could see the hatred and darkness in those eyes. He also saw how scared she was. He felt it was his duty to rescue Robin and he would support her. His support, however, did not translate into taking a life. He didn't know if he would be able to get through to Robin if push came to shove.
Cassadine Island
Jerry looked at his watch. It was nearly time for his Robin to make her arrival. He knew she would figure it out and he was positive she would not be arriving with just Anna. That insipid husband would come. It made no difference to Jerry. He had plans for Robin. The more he thought about it, jail seemed too good of an out. He was going to get her to his side by breaking her.
He would have his monster once more.
Port Charles
Brenda and Sonny put Emma to bed. They couldn't get over how much Emma reminded them of Robin.
They headed to the living room to see Elizabeth coming with three coffee mugs on a tray.
"Is she knocked out?" Elizabeth asked.
"Like a light. She said a prayer for Robin and Patrick and the special man that needs help," Brenda replied.
Elizabeth shook her head. "I can't believe all of this. We just got her back. Now Robert is in danger and Robin gets sucked back into Jerry's web."
"He's a bastard for sure," Sonny said. "I'm worried how she is going to react. I mean she believed Jerry was her only friend and he throws her under the bus. Her anger is one of the things she has to hold on to. It's not going to be pretty."
Brenda and Elizabeth nodded their heads.
"Do you think things will ever get back to normal around here?" Brenda asked.
"Only time will tell," Sonny said.
