Chapter 26
Jerry stared at Robin in a way she didn't like. It was smug and giddy. It was as if he was enjoying this ticked off side of her. His disposition angered her even more.
"Robin, is that any way to talk to an old friend?" he asked.
Robin arched an eyebrow and sighed in disgust. "Friend? We aren't friends. You are one manipulative, arrogant, selfish bastard who tricked me into caring for you. I almost killed Luke for you. I did so many things because of you."
He kept looking at her as if she hadn't said anything harsh. "What?"
"I immensely enjoy this praise you're giving my way. You always had a way with words," he said enjoying himself.
She approached him getting in his face as much as possible. "Why me?" she growled.
"Why not you?" he taunted. "The daughter of international spies. It was an opportunity I couldn't resist. Plus, I did it as a favor for someone."
Her eyes widened at the realization. "Faison. You kidnapped me because of him."
"You were handed over to me. There is a difference," he corrected smugly. "Once I was able to make you see reason, you were much easier to deal with."
Jerry reached up to touch Robin's hair. "You are one of my greatest accomplishments."
Robin quickly slapped his hand away. "I hate you with every fiber of my being. You turned me into a killer."
"A good one I might add," he interrupted.
He could see the hatred in Robin's eyes building and he continued. "Admit that you enjoyed it. You weren't known as Robin, the brilliant doctor who played by the rules. The woman with responsibilities. I created this persona and it seems like you haven't completely shredded it. I took you under my wing and made you someone you always wanted to be."
She scoffed. "You ruined me," she hissed. "You threw me underneath the bus to save your pathetic life. I trusted you like a fool. This ends now."
Jerry felt the hard metal pressed against his stomach. She was quiet with her movements and in a weird way he was proud she had been able to do it. He lowered his hand to cover hers to which he felt a slight twitch in movement.
"There she is. My jobbin Robin who doesn't think twice about killing. Kill me if you still have it in you. Show me and the rest of your family who you really are," he said his voice dropping an octave with each word.
Robin stilled for a moment. She had every intention of killing this man. The moment she saw him nothing else mattered. This man took everything from her. She had no clue who she was truly and admittedly, deep down she did miss the freedom more or less.
She thought about what her mother would say or even Patrick. She internally sighed. He just got her back and it wouldn't be fair of her to make him lose his wife again. And Emma, her sweet girl needed her desperately.
"Well Robin," Jerry said interrupting her thoughts. His voice was like a magnet and she was desperate not to surrender.
"Shut up," she sneered. "You aren't in control anymore," she continued. She walked away to close the door.
Jerry smirked. "Privacy so no one can hear you kill me. How considerate of you."
Robin turned back around and let out an irritated growl. "I told you to shut up."
"Why? I wish to compliment you," he said. She arched an eyebrow.
"What?" she asked.
"You don't even realize what you're doing," he taunted.
Robin lifted up her gun swiftly. "I have a pretty good idea."
Jerry laughed wickedly. "I'm sure. You have me where you want me. Go ahead and pull the trigger. Don't miss Robin or I will be thoroughly disappointed."
Robin cocked her gun and her finger was on the trigger. "Just so you know no one is going to miss you."
"Right. Like no one missed you," he shot back. "Your husband found another woman. I'm sure she would have been Emma's new mommy leaving you out in the cold. No one even came to look for you."
Robin tried to force herself to stay still but her body was rebelling. She began to tremble slightly. "You made them think I was dead."
"With two spies for parents you would think they wouldn't look at things at face value," Jerry continued. "How did it feel to know that you were slowly becoming a memory? Out of sight, out of mind. No one expected you to show up. No one cared enough to search in case you weren't six feet in the ground. The brilliant doctor was left to her own devices. You should thank me. I saved you."
Jerry walked closer causing Robin to shrink back and hit the dresser behind her. "I saved you and gave you a life full of freedom. You weren't tied down to a routine lifestyle. I am your only friend," he said in a softer voice.
Robin shook her head trying to make those intruding words go away. "Stop it," she demanded. She could feel herself teetering on the edge.
"I am the only one who had your best interest at heart," he whispered. "I'm the one that took care of you all this time."
Robin turned her head and blinked several times. Her guard was coming down. His voice entered her mind once more.
"Without me you would never become the person you were truly meant to be. Those people out there will force you to be what they perceive as the real Robin. We know better, don't we Robin?"
Jerry could see the semblance of a tear about to fall down her cheek. He was on the cusp of getting to her completely. "Look at me," he said gently but firm.
She looked up at him instantly. "Yeah," she whispered quietly. "We do know better."
Jerry slowly took the gun from Robin. "Now, what exactly are you going to do with this now? Still plan to kill me."
Robin shook her head no.
"Excellent Robin."
Jerry had her right where he wanted her.
