Chapter 29

Sonny stood in the middle of the police station speechless. Jerry was dead and he was glad for that but to hear Robin had been the one to truly end him was mind boggling. He looked at Jax who seemed torn.

"Are you going to press charges?" Sonny questioned.

Jax seemed to be contemplating the answer. "I don't know. She's my friend but he was my brother. Yet, he forced her hand in a way."

"What exactly happened?" he asked.

Jax shook his head. "I'm not really sure. All we heard was a gunshot and then Robin opened the door. She was completely mute the entire plane ride back."

Sonny nodded his head and looked around the room. "Where's Anna and Robert?"

"Talking to the WSB about Faison and Liesl. Honestly, I think they needed the distraction for a moment."

Sonny paused for a second. "I think I'm going to see Robin now." He walked into the interrogation room and Robin lifted up her head.

"Hey Robin," he said.

"Hey," she replied. "So I guess someone told you."

"Jax," he stated. He saw Robin wince a little. "Hey, it's going to be alright. We are going to get you out of this."

"How? I committed murder. That's not something you can get away with," she said. "I knew this was going to be the outcome when I pulled the trigger."

Sonny leaned over the table with his hands intertwined. "What happened?"

"I felt my resolve slipping and I knew if I didn't do something I would be under his control. He would have made me do horrible things to Patrick, mom and dad, even Britt. I made a show of turning my head and letting a tear slip down my face. He thought he had me."

"I went downstairs and I played my part. Unbeknownst to me, dad shot Jerry in the stomach. I cried because I was so devastated and I made them all leave," Robin continued. "I saw this as my chance to finally break from him. So I did what I thought was my only option."

"Are you sure Jerry is dead?" Sonny asked.

"I'm sure," Robin answered. Robin looked out the small window for any signs of commotion but it was still quiet. "Have you seen Patrick?"

"No," he answered. "When I arrived, Jax was the only one to greet me."

"He hates me. I'm sure of it," Robin stated.

"He could never hate you Robin," Sonny replied. "I'm sure he understands why you did what you did."

Robin shook her head. "He doesn't understand this life. He never has. Even when you and I were so close, he didn't understand the connections I had with you and Jason. I still had this memory of you two helping me and I never let go of that. I saw both sides of the coin and I chose to have you all in my life. Now, I've become you and I know he doesn't like it. All I did was prove to him how messed up I am."

"Okay, first of all…you're not me. You were dragged into this world whereas I chose it. Jason chose it despite the times he could have gotten out. We watched you grow and create this family. If anyone is to blame about you being messed up, it is Jerry and the rest of those lunatics," he said sternly.

"But I don't feel regret for Jerry. I feel bad for everyone else. I hurt them," Robin said.

"And that says to me that you aren't a psychopath. You care because that's who you are. This life is not for you and I will make sure you don't ever touch it again."

Robin smirked. "Always looking out for me."

"Yeah, I am."

Robin paused. "How's Emma?"

Sonny chuckled. "A mini Robin. She, Brenda and Liz are basically best friends now. But she did miss you and Patrick."

He saw Robin's eyes water a bit. "Emma is going to be fine," he assured. "She's a Scorpio."

In the meantime, Robert was on the phone with a representative from the WSB. Anna and Patrick could see and hear the frustration. They were all scared.

Another five minutes went by and Robert hung up the phone.

"Well Robert, what did they say?" Anna questioned.

"They'll put Faison and Liesl in a maximum security facility and charge them with kidnapping amongst other things. As far as Robin is concerned, she may have to spend some time in jail."

"No," Patrick and Anna yelled simultaneously.

"Look, I'm trying to work out a deal," Robert said. "Maybe doing this in person will have a better effect."

"My daughter is not going to spend a minute in a prison. She's escaped one prison," Anna said.

"She's my daughter too and do you think I want her to spend a day in jail let alone years," Robert argued. "I'm glad the bastard is dead. I just wish she would have let him die by my hand instead of hers."

Patrick ran his hands over his face. "There has to be something we can do. I can't lose my wife."

"Right now you can go see her," Robert said. "And we're not losing her or any more time with her."

Patrick walked out of the office and down to the interrogation room. His feelings were all over the place and he had no idea what to say to Robin. The entire plane ride back to Port Charles was tense and he was so scared to find out what frame of mind she was in at the time.

He walked in to find Sonny still sitting in the interrogation room. Sonny gave Patrick a curt nod before addressing Robin.

"Remember what I said," he told her and winked at her. He left the couple alone.

Patrick sat across from her and just looked at her. His pain was written all over his face.

"You hate me, don't you?" she asked expecting a yes to come out of his mouth.

"No. Why would you say that?"

"Because I killed-

"A criminal," he interrupted.

"A monster more like it but I have disrupted our lives yet again," she finished. "I'm sorry."

He groaned as he put his face in his hands. "I'm sorry too. We are going to get through this together come hell or high water."

"You sound sort of like the old me," Robin half-joked. Patrick laughed softly.

"Patrick," she called out after a few seconds of silence. "In case I do go to jail…I'm 99% sure I will, don't forget to tell Emma how much mommy loves her."

Tears started to well up in Patrick's eyes. "I wish you hadn't done it," he said eventually.

Robin nodded her head in understanding.

"Do you feel any remorse?" he asked.

"No," she said. "But I regret hurting you and Jax. I needed him gone and jail for him wasn't good enough."

"Okay," he responded. "Look, Robert and Anna are trying their best to do something. With any luck, you won't serve time."

"But we have to face facts Patrick. Jerry's dead, Franco almost died and Luke was seriously injured. I'm the common thread in all three. Beyond that, I've done more damage in my two years with Jerry than I have in a lifetime. A judge won't be so lenient."

"We'll make the judge see that you were controlled. And whatever else we need to do to make this happen we will do it."

Robin cracked a smile at his persistence. "You're forgetting one thing…Jax. He may-

"I'll talk to him," Patrick said.

"It may not be that easy. Blood is thicker than water after all," Robin said.

Patrick was growing slightly frustrated. "Would you have faith in me?" Patrick asked. Robin's eyes softened.

"I do. I just don't want you to get your hopes up. I've made my bed and if I pay the price then so be it. I don't want you or Emma or anyone else to pay for my choices."

The door to their left opened and Anna entered. "Your father has decided to go to headquarters. Right now, I want you to go home and not worry about this for the rest of the night. Tomorrow, we'll figure out something."

Patrick and Robin walked out the room. Jax was still there and he got out of his seat and approached them. Robin started to tense but soon relaxed when Jax offered her an olive branch.

"My brother was still my brother and I loved him. I remember not too long ago when I was ready to rip him apart for his crimes against you. I've thought about this and I'm not going to press charges."

Relief flooded through Patrick. "Thank you," he said. Jax nodded his head and walked away.

The couple got home and soon turned in for bed. Tomorrow was going to be another day.
