Enough of that.. Let's continue!
She woke up that day with more energy than the usual. Was it that she was ready to be okay? Did things finally look up?
She noticed the cardboard box in the corner and the sinking feeling in her heart returned.
No, she was still hurt.
She eyed the origami hearts and the plush bear holding a pink heart and clenched her fist. The origami hearts were precious and absolutely delicate. They held a special place in her heart and that would never change, ever. Usui crafted the treasures himself and gave them to her on valentine's day. One of the hearts was a pale peach colour and had little angel wings. That is what she treasured the most. Usui had made that winged heart for the sole reason that Misaki was his "guardian angel". She scowled at it and bit her lip down hard.
She suddenly remembered the way Usui looked into her eyes and the scent that she loved about him. It wasn't sweet, but it was warm and homely and gave her an aura similar to the aura one feels while they visit their family.
Although cliche'd, Usui gave her the toy bear during the summer festival. At that moment when he gave it to her, the toy's eyes appeared warm and loveable but while the bear sat in the cardboard box, its black beady eyes stared her down cold and sent shivers riveting down on her spine.
That sweltering hot day was spent playing games of all sorts while the night was spent indulging in the sweetest summery desserts.
"Hey do you want to try win a toy? The tickets are over there! Let's go Misa-chan!" Usui's eyes glittered.
"Yes!"
Misaki almost managed a grin when she remembered the way her heart elated when she saw the number 33 on her ticket.
She remembered how she double checked the winning numbers board and jumped up and down ecstatic.
"We won!"
"Yes! I'll get you that bear over there!"
"T-Thankyou!"
Misaki's eyes widened as she soon soothed herself back into the reality that confronted her so boldly.
How many months had passed since she had been such a wreck? She had no idea but as she pulled on the curtain cords and pulled, she noted that the season had completely changed from what she remembered.
It was bright outside, and the rays of sun pierced through the thick shadows that clouded her room.
"Suzu, are we in the hotter season already?" Misaki called out
Suzuna gasped. She hadn't heard her sisters voice that clearly in so long.
"Y-yes! Why?"
"Mm, no reason. I'm going out to work, I won't be back for dinner."
"O-okay!"
Misaki grasped her backpack and decided to pack party clothing. She hadn't been clubbing with friends in so long.
She managed a genuine smile and called up Sakura.
"Sakura! Let's go clubbing tonight!"
"What?!"
"I'll meet you at Muse tonight! 9?"
"Wait wha-"
Misaki hung the phone up and quickly packed the rest of her items.
She was already late for work so she needed to prepare even quicker than usual.
She rushed out of the house almost stepping onto the rotten planks of wood that her family knew so well to avoid. In fact, her house didn't even need a security system as the front door had only one safe pathway to get to the rest of the house. The other planks of wood would give way and trap anyone at the same time, causing massive panic attacks.
She began to sprint for what seemed to be the first time in forever.
Cars sounded their horns at her as the drivers inside cussed and frowned, but really, Misaki didn't care.
She felt the inevitable forecasted cool change that came after every break up.
The second step. The time where she could allow herself to let go of the pain and make way for the other emotions that visited everyone elses life on a daily basis. In knowing this, Misaki attempted to take full advantage of this moment and pushed herself to become at least half of what she was before.
"Actually, I should stop by the Livia hairdresser!"
She laughed and carried on her way to the town.
The footpath begged her legs to carry her faster and faster and soon enough she felt as if she were soaring.
Swinging open the barber coloured door, Misaki exhaled sharply as the cruel reality slapped her in the face and reminded her that she hadn't worked out in months and her fitness levels had suffered immensely.
The cashier fixed her fringe with a perfectly manicured finger and showcased her brightly dazzling smile followed by a frown.
"Hello! oh.. How can I help you?"
The cashier wrinkled her nose in disgust as she eyed Misaki up and down. She stressed the 'you' part as if she were completely disgusted by the idea of even being near her.
"Cut my hair off. Shoulder length please."
"Uh, okay."
She arrived at Maid latte with a grin etched on her face.
"Hello manager, I'm here! Sorry I'm late!" she giggled in a sing-song type of style.
"Misaki chan! It's been too long since I've seen your beautiful smile! Go change and serve this omlette rice to table four! By the way, I love your hair!"
"Ah, sure thing, thankyou!"
The cafe was kept quite cool as the room was full of customers dining and conversing with each other.
The manager had a knack for always making the cafe seem welcoming, even in the most awful times, including natural disasters. Maid latte had gradually become more popular as the months went by and eventually they actually had rows upon rows of people lining up to have a taste of what the small town cafe had to offer.
Misaki didn't take notice of the popularity of Maid latte until she walked in with her newfound energy and even more new haircut.
It sort of energised her more and somewhat ignited her passionate side.
"Misaki! Your shift is over! Go rest!" The manager chirped from the office. She poked her head around the side of the door and beamed her usual perfect smile.
"Thank you! Have a good night, I'll take my leave now." Misaki tipped her head and scurried to the change rooms to prepare for her first night out in what felt like an eternity.
SECOND AUTHORS NOTE: Thankyou~
((I'LL SAY IT AGAIN
to be sure.
No Usuis and Misakis were hated on together or apart in the making of this chapter. I do not wish this couple hell nor do I care if you wish me the hell that I have created. ))
