I don't own twilight
Bella woke up to the morning light. She rolled over and looked at the other side of the bed. Her hand went out and caressed the empty sheets. They were cool so Emmett must have been up for some time and she herself must have been really tired to not have heard him get up. She sat up wrapping the cover over herself and looking around the room in the light of day. She slipped from the bed and food her clothing. She cringed at the little she had as she washed up with some cold water sitting on the dresser and slipped into her clothing. She made her way down the stairs and saw Emmett standing behind the counter in a mostly empty store with only one older woman browsing.
"Hi." She said softly. He looked over at her and smiled.
"Hi." He said as she walked closer to him and slipped behind the counter.
"Sorry I slept so late. She noticed the clock said ten AM
"No issue." He smiled as he drummed his finger against the counter. "It's not busy."
"Still I'm sorry."
"We'll go grab lunch in a few hours okay." He smirked.
"Yeah sure is that what you usually do?"
"Not the best cook." He chuckled.
"You know I'm actually pretty good at cooking. If you just make sure there are groceries upstairs I can make food. "
Homemade food." Bella smiled at the look on his face.
"Someone has been a bachelor for too long." Bella chuckled. "We'll discuss this over lunch okay." She turned hearing the door open and a little pixie come through. "Hello." She smiled.
"Oh hi." The pixie looked at her. "I'm Alice and you must be the new bride. A pleasure."
Bella watched as Alice's eyes twinkled. "Yes Isabella Swan.. Um I mean Cullen. But call me Bella please." She blushed she wasn't used to saying her married her last name. she flicked her gaze towards Emmett but it didn't seem he had noticed as he was helping the other lady in the store. "What can I help you with today?"
"Oh right well I am making a dress and I bought some Material here but now I need some trim."
"Oh of course what color?" Bella looked around the spotting the trim.
"A deep velvety red please." Bella nodded and headed towards the trim she sorted until she found two swatches and brought them over to Alice. I think one of these two would work best for you."
"I think I'll take that one." Alice pointed to the lightest.
"Right of course." Bella held it and then looked over at Emmett she wasn't sure how all of this stuff worked how payments worked or even how much it would be. Luckily Emmett was done with his customer and he headed towards her. He took the swatch from Bella and smiled at Alice.
"How is the dress coming along Alice."
"Great this should be one of the last touches. Rose will love it."
Bella froze as she heard the name Rose she made herself come out of hit. No she would try and be nice and understanding about this miss Rose Dance hall girl.'
"Well I'll just put this on your tab how is that?" Emmett smiled handing it to her.
"Perfect." Alice waved and left the store and pulled out a ledger.
"Mostly everyone in town has an account they pay at the end of the month or when they can we are mostly all friends here and I trust people sometimes people will pay in cash but that is rare until they are settling their account and for some of the poorer family we take things in trade that we can sell in the store say something like carrots or eggs."
Bella nodded as she watched him jot an amount down next to a name she assumed was Alice's It was so different then the big town. He slipped the ledger under the desk and looked at the clock. Lets go to lunch." He took her arm and looped it through his as he shut up the store and walked with her to the local inn/ eating establishment. He waved at a few people. As he held out a chair for Bella. As they settled a pretty woman came up to them.
"Hello Emmett." She turned and looked at Bella. "And you must be the new bride."
"The whole town knows know don't they?"
"Of course Jasper has a big mouth." The waitress smirked.
"Oh Bella this is Kate she's actually Marcus's niece her father is a traveling Reverend so she stays with Marcus most of the year. "
"Nice to meet you Miss Kate." Bella smiled.
"And you to Mrs. Cullen." Angela looked at the couple. "Well today's choices is a chicken and dumplings or a beef stew."
"I'll have the chicken and dumplings please." Bella said.
"And I'll have the beef stew."
"Great I'll have those right up."
"So Bella." Emmett said turning towards her when Kate went into the kitchen. "When it comes to groceries you can take whatever you need from the store and I'll leave a some money in the canister on the cupboard upstairs for you to get meat. The Butcher will have what you need."
"Okay." Bella flushed as she thought about the clothing she didn't have. She cleared her throat and looked up at him. She was about to speak when Angela placed their meals down in front of them.
"Enjoy." She smiled and was then gone. Bella took a bite of her food and then looked back up at Emmett. She tried to gain her courage to speak again. She took a deep breath and opened her mouth again.
"Emmett would it be okay for me to take some cloth to make a new dress I only have one other dress besides the one I am wearing and she blushed I used the money you sent to pay off my bill at the boarding house I'd been staying at in Boston."
He put his hand over hers and smiled. "Bella it's okay of course take the cloth you need and just write it down okay."
"Thank you." She let out a breath and ate her food. They finished and Emmett paid the bill as they went across the street to the store and Emmett opened it back up. Bella looked around the tiny town she found herself in as she slipped inside the store. Her new life.
