The Return of Necros
Chapter 3: Just Your Average Day
Percy POV~
Some months have passed since I started school. Already I've started working ahead in all my classes. I have progressed well with my exercises. The doctors will allow me to use crutches now. Every now and then I get a letter from Jason. It's nice to know that he hasn't forgotten about me. My teachers are impressed with how far I've managed to work ahead. They might even let me skip a grade.
I made many friends. The weird thing, they all seem to know each other, a lot. Annabeth has gotten passed the pity stage. I think she's even impressed with me. Thalia is constantly missing school. She says she has stuff to do for her family. This guy named Grover sticks to me like rubber cement. He doesn't tell me why though. Then I met these twins about two months ago. Conner and Travis Stoll are very funny. Since they look alike, they constantly switch who's who. It's funny to see other people's reactions when that happens.
Weird things happen in New York. I have a pet snake, and everyone thinks it's a necklace since she almost always stays around my neck. I named her Anastasia since it seemed to fit. I call her Ana for short. Sometimes I swear I see wings on her back but that's ridiculous, right?
Monsters roam the streets. The other day I saw a giant black hound stop and stare at me. I swear it was debating whether or not it wanted to eat me. Right now I just ran into a dragon.
It's staring at me. I could see every facet in it's yellow eyes. Ana reared up from her perch on my neck and hissed. It blinked and lumbered away. I sigh. Things just keep getting crazier.
I finish my swinging walk to Central Park. It's a lot nicer here, and I was visiting the friend I made in a wolf cub. I named him Erebus since he's a dignified shade of Ebony. I gave a low whistle.
He immediately yipped and bolted to me. I hummed cheerfully and dug through my bag looking for the meat I brought for him. I found it and tossed it toward him. He barked joyfully and dug into it with enthusiasm.
I smiled at his antics, and then turned to my school work. I casually sat up against the tree and started working farther ahead in science. Ana snaked(AN:ha ha pun) down from my neck and slithered towards Erebus.
I swear those to can talk to each other. I shook my head ruefully and went back to work. After some time I became aware of a girlish giggle. I looked up and caught sight of a green girl. I blinked and tilted my head slightly.
She smiled and said, "Hi."
I blinked again and replied, "Hello."
Her smile widened and she said, "I didn't know if you could see me. It's nice to know that you can. I always see you come here every so often and lean against my tree. My name's Birch by the way."
"Your tree? Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know. You must be a Dryad. It nice to meet you and to know that I'm not going crazy. My name's Percy", I said. "Nice to meet you, Birch."
She giggled and murmured, "You're so polite."
I smiled. Then I asked, "Birch is there a reason I can see you when others can't?"
She nodded and answered, "Yes. It usually means that you're a clear-sighted mortal or you're a demigod. Do monsters attack you?"
"No", I answered. "They usually stop and stare at me like I'm some sort of buffet. Then Ana hisses at them and they leave."
"Ana?", she queries.
"My over protective snake friend", I said while pointing to Ana who was draped over Erebus.
She looked at them and her eyes widened. She leaned down and started conversing with them. When Birch straightened upright she looked at me with respect.
"Ana is none other than the most famous monster in mythology. She's the Leviathan."
"Ins't the Leviathan supposed to be huge?" I asked, stating the obvious.
She giggled and said, "Of course silly. She's magical so she can change her size if necessary. Your wolf friend is also magical. They're very fond of you. Both of them insist on staying with you because they say you're nice, and they like you. They also told me that you are a very important demigod, although they didn't tell me who your godly parent was."
"Huh, I feel special now. At least I'm not crazy." Wow, I'm important and loved? Awesome!
Birch opened her mouth to speak again when a voice out of no where asked, "Percy?"
I whirled around and Thalia was staring at me in shock. Birch squeaked and vanished in a puff of green mist. Thalia was wearing a silver parka and a circlet that glowed with moonlight. A twelve year old girl with auburn hair stood next to her.
Being mindful of the conversation I just had with Birch, I assessed the girl next to her. She had silver eyes and looked at me with distaste. I made the connection of who she was relatively fast. I mean come on, silver eyes and a hatred for men and boys? I moved to bow and then collapsed. Shoot, I was standing for to long.
I squeaked in terror and said really fast, "I apologize for my conduct Lady Artemis. I was unaware of my heritage up until a moment ago."
Lady Artemis blinked in shock. "While I accept your apology since you have clarified that you did not know, I am curious. What did you mean by heritage?"
Ana glared at me, and I got the message. "A kind dryad named Birch was thoughtful enough to explain to me why I was seeing monsters every where. She told me that I was a demigod."
She turned to Thalia and asked, "I heard you mention his name. Do you know this male, Thalia?"
Thalia nodded and shot me an apologetic look. "Yes, Chiron assigned me and several other demigods to keep an eye on him ever since Grover confirmed that he is a powerful demigod."
Great, I find out that one of my friends is not really my friend and has been spying on me since the start of school.
"Then he must go to that camp now." Artemis declared.
Geez, are all the gods like this. The sky rumbled in response. Stalkers, I thought acidly. Artemis's face twitched into an amused smile.
Thalia nodded and said, "Follow me."
I just realized that I haven't updated this story in a while.
I apologize.
