"Twist of Fate"

Chapter 22 "Training"

Humphrey had finally ran out of breath from chasing the Warrior around. Despite only being 2 legged he had incredible endurance and speed.

"How *Pant* the hell *Pant* are you *Pant*not *Pant* tired?" Panted Humphrey. He had collapsed onto the floor a minute ago trying to catch his breath. The warrior practically floated off an inch or 2 off the ground and hovered over to him. "what the? How are you flying?"

The warrior smiled before he replied. "well for a smart wolf you certainly don't pick up on clues huh?"

"What does that mean?" said Humphrey acting as if his feelings were actually hurt.

"Yeah, no. I'm not that stupid my friend. Remember? Bonded... Also I meant you're not too bright. It was all the training I received the past year.

"Oh... forgot about that..." Then Humphrey got an idea. "Hey can you teach me to fight? i mean like you do? That way I can defeat those... uh-"

"-Rievers..." interrupted the black wolf.

"... Right... so can you?" finished Humphrey.

"Actually no." replied the warrior.

"WHAT?! Why not?!" shouted Humphrey.

To which the warrior replied: "Well... the training I received from my ancestors was meant for only my kind. We utilize our emotions, will, and other various empowering things. This is how we fight. I'm not sure you can even utilize any of those. Let alone turn it into a weapon or any other variation."

Humphrey sighed "... So basically you're telling me I either have to summon you; or wing it by myself?"

"No. I'm just saying I can't teach you how to fight. You have to learn from one of you'r own." Said the warrior.

Humphrey turned to the old wolf; but before he could ask the wolf spoke. "No..."

"Aw come on! You're the only one who can help me!"

"I said no."

"Please!"

"The answer's still no. Come back once you've completed all my requirements..."

Frustrated and tired Humphrey said: "Fine... I'll do the stupid requirements..."

Silence enveloped them before he spoke up "You have no idea what they are do you?"

"Nope..."

Once again an awkward silence set in on them. "Would you like me to tell you?"

"Yes please..."

The older wolf sighed before saying "25 sprints around the area you first liked when you arrived in Jasper, 300 log squats and swimming against a current for an hour..."

"I thought it was only 100 squats?"

"I thought you didn't remember." He had a smug grin on his face.

Humphrey decided to just get it over with before it get's worse. "Fine... How do I get out of here?"

Both the wolf and the warrior literally face planted on the ground (It's a anime thing). Then finally the both stood up rubbing their faces before the wolf pointed into the abyss that surrounds them before saying "Keep heading that way; first door to the left."

Humphrey followed his directions and was confused when he saw a square shaped door. It had a flap on it. He decided to head through it and was instantly blinded. When everything died down he still couldn't see. It took a wile; but his eyes eventually adjusted and he found himself in a small cave. Behind him it was too dark to see. In front of him the walls were barely visible and had a blue tent to them. He continued forward and found himself in a tunnel. It was slightly brighter due to the blue tint being stronger.

He manage to reach a bigger room of the cave and awed at it. The ceiling was at least 6 wolves tall; if one were to stack them on each others backs. Everything was a blue tint and in the middle of the room was a light blue pond. about 3 wolves across; from tail to head all the way around.

Humphrey was brought out of his trance like state he was splashed with water. That's when he saw all the other wolves in the room. "Hello Humphrey." Humphrey nearly jumped out of his skin. He turned around and saw Winston sitting on an over hang.

"Hey Winston..."

"Look Humphrey sorry for not telling you about HEAT before. I already thought you knew." winston spoke with a hint of remorse showing he was actually sorry for not telling him.

"It's alright Winston... Hey I gotta go some where okay? I'll be back in 2-4 hours."

Winston eyed Humphrey carefully before asking "This wouldn't have anything to do with HEAT would it?"

Humphrey blushed under his fur before replying "N-no sir. I just need to take care of some thing."

Winston just eyed him before nodding his head granting him permission. Once that was done Humphrey walked towards, what he presumed to be, the exit. Leaving behind this wonderful, cool, safe, cave for what ever was outside. Heat, relentless females, and more heat...

At The spot for training...

Humphrey arrived there and it was around 3:00 pm when he got there. Ironically enough he found a log and a river just past the line treeline across from him on the opposite side of the meadow. To the left and right side of the meadow were very thick tree lines that quickly darkened the area beneath them.

Much to Humphrey's dismay the log was actually not hollow. Upon further inspection the ground was also uneven for running. Even more to his dismay the river's current was a very strong one. Humphrey sighed and began his training starting with the swimming against the current thing. He figured it would be easiest...

20 minutes Later...

We return to check up on our hero only to find he is no longer in the river... We scan along the river banks only to see a breathing ball of soaked fur... "Fuck... my muscles being gone really sucks... I'm as weak as when I was taken from here..."

Humphrey pushed himself up only too find himself to tired to walk. He immediately fell back down. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to take a nap..." Humphrey soon felt his eye lids drooping and he fell asleep...

Next Day...

Humphrey's vision flashed a blinding white before it quickly turned blurry. He looked around for about 2 seconds before it cleared up. He was in a den. It looked familiar; but he couldn't quit place it... Then it clicked in his mind...

"Oh shi-" was all he managed to get out before being tackled by a blur...

He looked up from a daze to see Kate hugging him tightly. "Hey Humphrey..."

"Kate..."

"Listen Humphrey... I'm sorry for the way I acted yesterday... I should've been more considerate of how you felt... and I just wanted to let you know... I'm-"

"Kate... Don't be. I know why you acted the way you did yesterday... Kate... You're in HEAT..."

The room became silent and all was still. Kate leaned against Humphrey's shoulder and sighed. Humphrey soon followed suit. "Well this has been great..."

"What do you mean?" asked Humphrey.

"Well... Since you've been back; we've been at war with the other pack, you were apart of, trying to rescue you from them, fighting you, and finally HEAT starts and we still have yet to see a break from the restlessness... Get ma point Humphrey?..."

Humphrey just sighed. He agreed although he couldn't just say that. It would only depress Kate more. "Kate... I'm not really upset lately..."

"What? How?"

"Well... For the longest time yes it was quiet back in Saw Tooth; but even though I enjoyed being an Alpha there and being a pack leader I gave it all up to come back here and be with you... Kate... As log as I'm with you I'll always be happy..."

That last part put a smile on Kate's face. Humphrey always did have a way with words that made anyone feel better. She kissed him on the cheek before resuming here position of leaning o his shoulder...

The couple remained like this before Humphrey asked "Hey Kate?"

To which she replied "Yeah, Humphrey?"

"How did I end up in our den?"

"Well... I was out searching for you and I found you on the banks shivering. So I piked you up and carried you home..."

"Oh... makes sense after all-wait- a minute... Why were you looking for me?"

"I-uh-I-yuh-I-I-I-um-I..." She looked at Humphrey and saw him smiling while raising one of his non-existent eyebrows and just said "Oh! Fine! I admit it... I felt the effects of HEAT on me..."

Humphrey just nodded before asking again. "Hey... How'd you say you got rid of them again?"

"I-uuuuuhhhhh..."

Humphrey's eyes went wide. Kate was blushing while fiddling with her paws. "You didn't..." was all he muttered.

"Well I'm sorry! I can't really do much about how much I want it! Yeah I can stop the heat; but I still want to do 'it'! And you're the only wolf for me! Soooo... I... mated while you slept..."

Kate winced at the last part expecting Humphrey to be pissed at her for doing that to him. However he didn't reply. He just sighed and went to the opposite end of the cave and lied down. Kate got up and walked towards him and whispered "Sorry Humphrey..." She then went to go lie on the opposite end of the cave when Humphrey suddenly spoke "Kate... I'm not mad at you..."

Kate practically jumped for joy after hearing that. She hugged him tightly. "*SIGH*... Just... Don't ever do that again Kate..."

"Okay I won't... I promise..." said Kate as she snuggled next to him. Burring her face into his chest and staying close to him for warmth.

After she fell asleep Humphrey looked out side, Kate still snuggled up next to him, and saw how gloomy it was. Everything had a bleak grey tone to it. There were thunder clouds over head. Humphrey then whispered to himself; before snuggling with his dream girl Kate "*sigh*... Looks like it's gonna be a long day..."
