I do not own any characters from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Those characters belong to Hasbro and Lauren Faust. I own only Eclipse and would like it if he stayed mine only.
A light crept onto my face, waking me up. Rolling over, I tried to go back to sleep, but to no avail. Sleep had already fled. I blinked my eyes open. I looked around puzzled. Wait, where am I? I ran some of last night's events through my mind. Oh ya, I'm with Twilight.
I gripped the edge of the covers with my teeth and pulled them off of me. My hooves touched the ground lightly when I slid off. The room had more to offer than what I saw last night. A standing mirror was placed in a corner of the room that I didn't notice before. I stepped over in front of it. My reflection looked as it had in the clear pool of water in the forest. I turned some to my left to look at more of myself and I caught a small glance of something. My head turned around to get a better look of what I only partially saw.
It was an image on my flank. A image. On my flank. I didn't know what it could mean. The picture was a sun, but instead of having a light center, it was blacked out. There were some points around the dark circle that light looked to be shining past the dark circle. The curved, wavy rays snaked out from the black sun. I didn't understand. I could ask Twilight. She seems to know a lot. I thought.
The door opened easily as I pushed outward on it. But before I could react, a walking stack of books ran into my right side. It didn't have any effect on me but the books let out an oomph. What was once a stack of books, was now a pile of books, and the pile was stirring. A small purple head popped out from the top.
"AAAHHH! Who are you?! What are you doing here?! Twilight!" The, what I assumed was a reptile, stood in the midst of the books with his little arms held over his head in a measly attempt of protection.
"Um. Hi." I greeted. I was confused. Was I that scary looking? I admit, I might've been kind of opposing to a small reptile. "My name's Eclipse."
"Please don't eat me. I have some gems stored. You can have them if you want, just don't eat me please." Honestly, could he not see what I was? I'm not going to eat him. "I'm not going to eat you, and I don't want your gems. I am a pony. Ponies are vegetarians. So I can eat you but you might be all tough and chewy and not to my liking at all." After I said that, I could feel that somepony was behind me. So, I turned around to face whomever it might be. And since this was Twilight's dwelling, I could only guess.
"Good mourning to the both of you." Twilight said as I came to face her. "How are you Eclipse? Have any memories returned to you when during your sleep?" I shook my head no to answer her. "Well, we will have to try and find something that you may recognize and see if that helps, okay?" I nodded. "Good. I see you met Spike already."
"You mean him?" I asked as I turned to look at the still cowering lizard. "Yes, that's Spike. Spike, this is Eclipse, and he is a guest. So if you could please pull yourself out of those books and say hello. And no, he won't eat you." Spike quit his antics and came towards me tentatively.
"Hi Spike," I said. "It's nice to meet you."
"Uh. H-hello?" He said it more as a question. "It's nice to m-meet you too?" I just rolled my eyes.
"Anyways, Twilight I have a question." Right after I said that, my stomach rumbled, quite loudly. We all heard it. "Um. Okay, I have two questions. First, do you have anything to eat? I haven't had any food as far as I can remember. Which is not very far."
"Ya, sure. Follow me to the kitchen. Spike, why don't you fix breakfast?" Twilight said.
"Yes ma'am." Spike ran down the stairs, through the library space, and through a doorway. Twilight and I walked at a slower pace.
When we got down the stairs, she turned her head and looked up at me. "What's your other question?"
"I wanted to know wha…" *Grumble* My stomach interrupted that thought. Twilight giggled.
"Why don't we find out after you get something to eat." My middle just growled in agreement. By that time, we had made it to the kitchen. Tasty smells of cooking food drifted to my nose. I followed my nose to what I assumed was the source. The tasty food smells were making my muzzle water, and as I got closer, I saw the food that Spike had made.
There on the table, which sat to one side of the quaint little room, was piled high with breakfast foods galore. Pancakes, eggs, orange juice, you name it. I watched the little dragon wipe his hands on his small apron. "Wow." I exclaimed.
"Spike always amazes me on how well he cooks." The purple unicorn beside me said.
"Ya, it's better than what she tries to make." Spike said. "She burns bread and calls it toast." Twilight rolled her eyes.
"Thanks Spike," she said sarcastically.
"No problem Twilight." Spike replied, trying hard not to laugh, but as he was taking off his cook outfit, he burst into laughter. I couldn't help but chuckle once. Spike sat at the table. There was an empty chair and plate set up at the table across from Twilight. I walked over and sat down. In the time it took me to do so, Spike was ravenously eating a stack of pancakes. I helped myself to some, trying not to get overly sticky from the syrup. After we each had our fill, I helped clean up by putting plates in the sink. It was difficult, but I didn't drop a single plate onto the floor.
Twilight seemed to have an easier time with the dishes. They floated in front of her, surrounded by a pinkish aura. I had a feeling that I should know what that aura was, but I didn't. The plates floated into the soapy water in the sink, then Twilight turned to me. "Now, what was that question of yours Eclipse?" She asked.
"Oh ya, the question my stomach didn't want me asking." I answered. "What is this?" I turned sideways. "The image on my flank?"
The purple unicorn looked at me funny. "You don't know about cutie marks?" I tapped the top of my head with a hoof. Her expression changed at that. "Oh, right. Sorry." I didn't care much. But the words "Cutie Marks" intrigued me.
"It's okay. What is a cutie mark?" She was about to explain, but Spike came interrupted her.
"Uh. Twilight. I don't feel so goo-" The small dragon's cheeks bulged, and a gurgling noise could be heard from his stomach.
"Eclipse!" Twilight suddenly shouted. "Duck!" I did just that. I hit the wood flooring hard. The impact left me dazed because it pushed the air out of my lungs. With a mighty belch, a stream of green flame escaped Spike's mouth. The flames came within inches of me. I cringed, but I didn't feel any heat. A small object fell onto my muzzle. I focused in on it, and found that a scroll had landed on my nose. The pink aura surrounded the scroll and the scroll unrolled in front of Twilight. Assuming I was safe from injury by Spike's fire, I stood up.
"What's it about Twilight?" Spike asked.
The purple unicorn ignored the small dragon and continued to read. After a minute or so, the floating scroll rolled back up and disappeared with a small flash and a poof. "Nothing you need to worry about Spike." Twilight said. She looked back at me. "Are you okay? Usually, Spike doesn't give so much warning." I checked my self over quickly once more.
"I'm fine." I responded. "But I still have no idea what a cutie mark is."
"Oh, yes." She said. "A cutie mark is a reflection of a ponies special talent. You usually get your cutie mark when you are a young pony. I've never seen a cutie mark quite like yours though." She paused, and went and stood in front of a bookcase to our left. A look of concentration fell on her face as she muttered to herself. I walked to stand next.
"What are you looking for?" A book floated off of the fourth shelf and settled on a table nearby. The book opened and pages flipped furiously.
"Ah ha! I found it." The pages stopped fluttering.
"What? What did you find?" I asked.
"This," she said. The book turned around, and on the left page, was a picture that looked like the one on my flank. The heading on the right page read 'Solar Eclipse'. Beneath that was a lengthy description. "There has only been one eclipse recorded in history." I was puzzled. The description made no sense when you applied it to what Twilight said about cutie marks.
"Twilight, I don't understand." The purple unicorn turned the book back to herself.
"Neither do I." She look around the room, I assumed she was looking for Spike. Speaking of the small dragon, he left during our conversation, and had just entered the room again, a small feather duster in his claws. "Spike." Twilight said.
"Yes, Twilight?" He replied, trotting over to stand beside her.
"I need you to send a letter to Princess Celestia." Spike pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill from behind his back as I watched him. Where he got the stuff from, I didn't want to know. "Dear Celestia. I have recently accommodated a guest. My guest is afflicted with a severe case of amnesia, and that's not the most interesting thing about him." I rolled my eyes. I would think that complete and total loss of memory would be very interesting. Twilight continued. "His name is Eclipse, and he is an Alicorn. I have run a few test to see if any illusion or transformation spells had altered his appearance, but I detected none. I wish you could come here and help me learn more about him; he has the strangest cutie mark." Twilight finished telling Spike what to write.
"A-com-o-date-d." The large words were sounded out as he wrote them, "trans-for-mation." With a flourish and a done, Spike handed the letter to Twilight, who read it over. She handed the roll back to Spike, and he blew a small stream of green flame onto it. The ash twirled in a small spiral and then flew out of an open window. I tried not to stare too hard. It looked pretty cool.
"So… What now?" I asked.
"Well." Twilight paused and seemed to think. After a moment, she asked, "do you know anything about magic?" I shook my head no. "How about flying?" Another head shake. "Okay then, how about Equestrian History?"
"Twilight," I said. "I'm not trying to be rude, but I know nothing about here. Except what you told me about the Princesses."
"Alright. Then why don't we begin with simple magic. You seemed to be having a hard time with the plates earlier."
I shrugged. "Why not. It'd be better than putting everything in my mouth." Spike snickered to the side. I looked at him with an eyebrow raised. "What?" Spike didn't reply, but instead burst into full fledged laughter. Twilight shook her head. The two of us left Spike be and walked over to a table set to the side of the room. A leather-bound book floated down from a middle shelf surrounded by that shimmering pink aura. The text opened up and settled down on the table in front of us. Pages fluttered until they pages numbered three and four.
There were cartoonish illustrations under a title that read 'Magic for Beginners'. There was no point in reading an introduction written for foals, so I skipped to the actual first page. I studied the page and found that the instructions seemed easy enough. Focus was all that was really required. "After you read that, we can get started. To some ponies, learning is made easier with verbal instruction, instead of just reading a book." Twilight said.
Spike just happened to overhear this. "Not for Twilight. She pretty much read her way through her lessons." He said very matter-of-factually. "She read every book about magic she could get her hooves on. I had to lift so many books. That's how I got these." He made a big show about flexing his arms, which honestly weren't that impressive.
Twilight laughed at Spike's act. "Okay Spike. Why don't you go reorganize the third shelf for me, please?"
The baby dragon complained. "But Twilight. You just had me dust those yesterday."
"I know, but I'm asking you to do it again." She turned her attention back to me as Spike grumpily walked away. "Now, let's get started."
It turned out that I had a knack for this magic thing. I was able to focus and bring up the flow of magic easily enough, so I advanced onto learning to levitate things and move them. I found that unlike Twilight's pink magic field that surround things she focused on, mine was white. After a half an hour of waving books and other various small items around the room, I began to learn some of the easier daily spells. Nothing was to hard. Twilight explained that I may not have memory of how magic worked, but my brain had that information stored in muscle memory or something. Which is funny because magic isn't really a muscle.
We were finishing up when Spike blew out some more green flame. Another scroll solidified in the flame, and before it could hit the floor, I caught it in my white magic field. I floated it to Twilight who took it from me. She unrolled the parchment and began to read. I left her to it and wondered around browsing the variety of books on the shelves. I saw books on just about everything. This is some library Twilight has got herself. I thought.
"Eclipse." Startled, I quickly turned around. Twilight stood close by. I hadn't heard her approach.
"By Solaris! Twilight, you scared me." I said.
She giggled. "Sorry. I've never heard anypony use that name before. Who is Helios, Eclipse?"
"What?"
"You said 'By Solaris'. Who is Solaris?"
"Um. I have no idea actually. It just popped into my head, and I said it." Twilight still seemed confused, but she didn't pursue the topic.
"Okay. Anyways, the letter I received was from Princess Celestia. She said that she would be over shortly to meet you." She paused and looked at the letter again. "It's not often that the princess comes here to Ponyville. She typically comes by carriage, but the trip takes at least a few hours." Twilight continued to drone on about how carriages weren't as fast as teleportation, when suddenly, a bright flash of white light filled my eyes. Balanced became lost to me, and I fell to the ground on my rear. I blinked to try and clear my eyes. I looked up to see the most beautiful pony I had ever set eyes on.
"Hello." She said.
Okay, I finally finished this chapter. I lied about the two week time period by the way. I knew I wasn't going to get this done in that time. I thank all of you who may have actually read this, and I apologize for the extended delay.
