Chapter Six: Saving Oliver
"Hey Skylar, are you okay?" Kaz asked as he helped the superhero up.
She clutched onto her head. "Yeah…I think so. My head just hurts a little."
"That shock was more intense than the last one." Kaz commented. "I wonder…"
"My powers are back!"
Kaz and Skylar turned around to see Alan happily using his telekinesis to lift everything in sight.
"The shock must have brought Alan's powers back." Kaz replied. "So then that must mean…"
"We don't have our powers anymore." Oliver said from his spot on the gurney.
"Wait…if Alan lost his powers and got them back and you guys lost your powers than does that mean I lost mine too?" Skylar asked, looking concerned.
"I don't know. Why don't you try them out?" Oliver asked. Skylar nodded as she attempted to create a space hole. However, nothing happened.
Skylar frowned. "I don't have my powers. They're gone again."
"Skylar, I'm sorry." Kaz tried cheering his friend up.
"I was so happy that I got my powers back and I thought that I'd finally be able to leave Mighty Med, but now…"
"Now you can't." Oliver finished. Skylar looked down at the ground.
"Yeah." She said in a whisper.
"Well, I'm not giving up! We're going to get your powers back, right Kaz?" Oliver looked at his friend. Kaz nodded.
"Totally! Don't worry, Skylar, Oliver and I will help you. Soon you'll have your powers again."
Skylar smiled. "Thanks guys. You're the best friends ever!" She then did a cartwheel out of the room.
"I love seeing Skylar happy." Oliver stated, grinning.
"Yeah because you're in love." Kaz then puckered his lips and made kissing noises.
Oliver rolled his eyes. "Stop fooling around, Kaz. Can't you see I'm currently in pain?"
"Oh please. Your shoulder's fine. I'm sure they fixed it up and it's as good as new." Kaz replied.
Oliver sighed. "I hope so. It still is a bit sore. You really hit me with that laser."
"Sorry, buddy. Good news is I won't be able to do it again since I don't have powers anymore and I'm not evil!" Kaz joked.
Oliver nodded. "Yeah…"
"Hey, what's wrong? You know you can tell me."
"Well…"
"Kaz! My uncle Horace requests your presence." Alan exclaimed, walking up to the boy.
"Huh?" Kaz asked, not paying much attention.
"He wants to see you. Now come on!" Alan said, grabbing Kaz's arm and dragging him away.
"I'll be right back Oliver!" He yelled at his friend.
Oliver smiled. "I know you will, Kaz. I know you will."
-Mighty Med-
"You wanted to see me, Horace?"
"Yes, Kaz, I have something important to tell you."
"What is it?" Kaz asked, sitting down on a chair.
"Oliver's shoulder can't be fixed."
Kaz stared at the chief of staff. "Sorry, what?"
"Oliver's shoulder can't be fixed." Horace repeated.
"What? That can't be true!" Kaz exclaimed. This news was not what he was expecting!
Horace frowned. "I'm sorry, Kaz."
"But there's gotta be something that can be done! Anything!"
"Well, there is one thing, but it is too risky. I cannot let you do it." Horace said.
"Tell me! I'll do anything for Oliver. I don't care how dangerous it is. He's my best friend!" Kaz protested.
Horace sighed. "There's a special kind of liquid that can only be found near the volcanoes on Skylar's home planet. If Oliver drinks it, his shoulder will heal." He explained.
"No problem! I'll just ask Skylar to go get it. I'm sure she'll know what it is and how to collect it." Kaz replied.
"Kaz, it's not that simple. It's a very dangerous journey and it'll be even harder for Skylar without her powers." Horace stated.
"Then we'll both go. I'll come with her." Kaz said, unfazed by Horace's warnings.
"Alright. I'll send you two to Skylar's home planet. But you must tell Oliver about this. He'll want to know." Horace replied. Kaz nodded.
"Okay, I'll tell Oliver before we go." He then left the room to go tell his friend about the journey he was about embark on with Skylar.
Kaz had to help heal Oliver's shoulder and finding this liquid on Skylar's home planet was the only way to do so.
-Mighty Med-
"What?! You can't be serious, Kaz!"
"I am, Oliver. I want to help heal your shoulder!"
Oliver frowned. "But you've never been on Skylar's home planet before. You don't know what you'll be facing there!"
Kaz sighed. "I know…"
"Let me come with you. If you're going, I'm coming too." Oliver said.
Kaz shook his head. "Sorry, Oliver, but you can't. You aren't fit to leave Mighty Med. I promise Skylar and I can do this alone. We'll find the liquid and come back."
"Promise?" Oliver asked.
"Promise."
"Kaz?"
Kaz turned around to see Skylar. She had a worried look on her face.
"May I speak to Oliver alone?"
Kaz stopped and looked between Oliver and Skylar. He then nodded and left the room.
"Hi Oliver." Skylar greeted.
"Hi Skylar." Oliver greeted back, a smile spread across his face.
"Are you okay?" She asked. Obviously, she was concerned about Oliver's shoulder just as much as Kaz was.
Oliver shrugged, but then cringed as he felt some pain in his shoulder. "Sort of." He managed to reply. Skylar frowned.
"You know Kaz feels really bad about hitting you with that laser." She stated.
"How do you know that? Did he tell you?"
"No," Skylar said. "But I can sense it."
"I've forgiven him." Oliver replied. "I know it wasn't him that did it. He was in an evil trance. I know Kaz would never hurt me like that unless he was being controlled."
Skylar nodded, agreeing. "Yeah. Sure."
"Shouldn't you two be leaving by now? To get that liquid that's supposed to heal my shoulder?"
"Yes, actually. We should get going. Um…bye Oliver." Skylar smiled, about to walk away.
"Wait Skylar!"
Skylar turned around. "Yes?"
"Uh…be safe." Oliver stated. "And bring back some pictures!"
Skylar laughed. "Of course. Bye." She then walked off to find Kaz.
Oliver sighed. "Be safe."
-Mighty Med-
Skylar and Kaz were with Horace, who was about to create a space hole for them to enter and arrive on Skylar's home planet.
"Since Skylar doesn't have her powers anymore, she can't create a space hole to her home planet. However, I can use this device here to do the same." Horace then pressed a button on the device he was holding and a space hole immediately appeared.
"This is it." Kaz breathed. "We're going in."
"Kaz, are you sure you still want to do this?" Skylar asked.
"Yes. For Oliver. We're doing this for Oliver. You want him to get better, don't you?"
"Of course." Skylar replied. "He's my friend too."
Kaz nodded. "Let's do it then. While there's still time."
"Before you go in, now might be a good time for me to tell you that this device can only be used once." Horace explained.
Kaz raised his eyebrow and stared at the chief of staff. "What do you mean?"
"I mean that this space hole will only be open for a half an hour and then it'll close for good. I will not be able to reopen it afterwards."
"And you didn't care to mention this earlier?" Kaz asked, his tone turning somewhat mad.
"I'm sorry! It slipped my mind!" Horace defended. "But I know you will manage to get back just in time before it closes."
"You better know." Kaz sneered. "Because I definitely don't want to be stuck on a volcano-infested planet with who knows what."
"Are you forgetting about me? You'll be stuck with me and that's bad?" Skylar asked a bit offended.
Kaz crossed his arms, not replying.
"Enough talk! We've wasted enough time as it is! You two must go now!" Horace exclaimed.
"Come on Kaz." Skylar then jumped into the space hole.
Kaz glanced at Horace. "I hope your helpful information is accurate. I'd be seriously upset if you were just pushing us to hurry up with this mission of getting some type of liquid."
Horace chuckled. "Oh Kaz, you're so funny! Trust me! I am not at all trying to get you two to hurry up. But if it does take you less than a half an hour to obtain the liquid that would be great!"
Kaz rolled his eyes and jumped into the space hole.
"Either that or this thing needs new batteries." Horace muttered, examining the device.
-Mighty Med-
Kaz and Skylar came out of the space hole as it appeared on Skylar's home planet. Skylar landed on her feet no problem. Kaz landed on his face.
"Ow…" He groaned from the impact.
"Welcome to my home planet!" Skylar proudly gestured to the red, rock-covered planet. "We offer complimentary diarrhea to tourists!"
Kaz regained his composure as he stood up. "Thanks, but I think I'll stick to regular Earth candy." He replied.
Skylar shrugged. "Okay then, so what now?"
"Uh what do you think? We find these volcanoes and search for the liquid." Kaz responded as if it was obvious.
"Oh, volcanoes? They're over there!" Skylar pointed to a group of volcanoes in the distance.
Kaz groaned. "Oh great. We have to trek all the way over there? Too bad you don't have your powers anymore or we could just super speed to them."
"It's not that far. Come on, we'll be there in no time at all!"
Ten minutes later…
"No time at all huh?" Kaz asked sarcastically.
Skylar put her hands up. "I really didn't think it'd take this long!"
"Well maybe because you're so used to just super speeding to places." Kaz remarked.
"Hey look! We're here!"
"Oh thank goodness…" Kaz then sat down on a nearby rock. "I need to take a minute to catch my breath."
"Wait…we don't even know what this liquid looks like! How are we supposed to find it?" Skylar asked.
"Horace said it's near the volcanoes. I guess we'll know it when we see it." Kaz stated.
"So…would that blue liquid oozing out of the hole in that rock be it?" Skylar asked, pointing to the said item.
Kaz looked and shrugged. "I think so."
"Okay. I'll go collect some then. Can you hand me a tube?" Skylar held her hand out.
"Uh…I don't have a tube." Kaz bluntly stated.
"You don't have a tube? I thought Horace handed you one before we left!" Skylar yelled.
"No, he did not."
"Ugh! How are we supposed to collect this stuff then?"
"Hmm…" Kaz began thinking. "No idea."
Skylar put her hand on her forehead and sighed. "You're so incompetent!"
"Why can't we just hold it in our hands and go back?" Kaz asked.
"For safety reasons. What if there's some side effect to touching the liquid with our bare hands? That's why we would need a tube!" Skylar explained.
"Uh-huh. Well, looks like we need to resort to Plan B." Kaz replied.
"We don't have a Plan B, blockhead!" Skylar exclaimed. "What are we going to do now? We're running out of time!"
"I don't know."
"How could we have not come prepared?" Skylar asked in distress. "This is horrible!"
"Hey Sky, do you hear that?" Kaz interrupted, cocking his ear.
"Hear what?" Skylar looked at Kaz annoyed. "Kaz, what is it?"
"Listen!"
Skylar paused and listened. There was a rumbling sound and it kept growing louder and louder. Her eyes went wide when she realized what it was.
"We have to get out of here!"
"What? Why?" Kaz asked, confused at what was happening.
"Now! Earthquake!"
"Earth-hey!" Kaz felt himself being yanked off his spot on the rock by Skylar, who was running.
"Skylar!"
"No time! We have to leave!" She yelled, her grip still on Kaz.
"I can run myself you know!" Kaz protested.
Suddenly, the ground began splitting apart. Kaz looked behind him to see that the volcanoes were about to erupt. That was not good.
"Skylar! The volcanoes!"
"I know!" She stated. "They're going to erupt!"
"We have to go back!" Kaz said, out of breath from the constant running. He seriously wanted to stop and take a break, but he didn't want to risk the chance.
"Why?!" Skylar called out. "Are you crazy?!"
"The liquid! I have to get it for Oliver!" Kaz then began running the wrong way. The way to where lava was flowing down the volcanoes and the ground was splitting apart.
"Kaz! NO!" Skylar stopped running to watch her friend risk his life. "It's too dangerous!"
Kaz ignored Skylar's warning and ran toward the rock where the blue liquid was oozing out. He had to get it. No matter what.
"Kaz! Watch out!"
Kaz looked down to see the ground beneath him start splitting apart. He jumped out of the way just in time and landed near the oozing rock.
"I've only got one shot at this." Kaz told himself. He then searched through his pockets for any sort of object or something that he could use to collect the liquid.
"Rubber ball. Keychain. String of yarn. An empty juice box." Kaz began listing the things in his pockets. He stopped suddenly and looked at the empty juice box. "That's it!"
He grabbed a sharp piece of rock and punched a hole in the juice box. He then put the juice box under the rock, where the blue liquid went into it. Once it was full, Kaz put the box back into his pocket.
"Kaz!"
Kaz immediately started running again. He saw Skylar waving her arms, urging him to come.
"I'm coming, Skylar! Hold on!" He yelled, panting.
"Kaz! The space hole is closing!" Skylar pointed to the shrinking hole.
Kaz groaned. They barely had any time left to get out. He had to speed it up.
"Skylar!"
"Whoa!" Skylar exclaimed startled as Kaz grabbed onto her arm and both of them went barreling into the space hole just as it closed up.
They made it. They barely made it. But at least they made it.
-Mighty Med-
Horace gasped as he saw Kaz and Skylar come out of the space hole as it shrunk to nothingness.
"You two made it!" He exclaimed. "Barely!"
Kaz sighed. "Yeah…yeah…" He said, out of breath.
"Kaz! Did you get the liquid?" Skylar asked, wondering if her friend succeeded.
Kaz nodded and pulled the juice box out of his pocket. He then handed it to Horace.
"Eureka! You did it! Ahem…I mean great job. You got the liquid! Now we just need Oliver to drink it and his shoulder will be good as new!" Horace explained.
"Hopefully…" Kaz muttered. "Can I personally give it to him? Please?" He asked.
Horace smiled and gave the juice box back to Kaz. "Go on, Kaz. You can help your friend."
Kaz smiled back and ran out of the room to Oliver. Skylar followed behind.
"Kaz! Wait!" She called.
Kaz stopped and turned to Skylar. "Yeah?"
"I want to be there too." She said.
"Of course. Come on." Kaz urged. Both friends then walked up to the gurney where Oliver was playing a game on his phone.
Kaz coughed and Oliver looked up.
"Kaz! Skylar! You're back!" He stated surprised.
"And this is for you." Kaz handed the juice box to Oliver.
He stared at it confused. "I drink a juice box and my shoulder's better?"
"It has the liquid inside it. Go ahead. Drink it." Kaz replied.
Oliver smiled and proceeded to drink the blue liquid.
"What does it taste like?" Skylar asked curiously.
"Tastes like hummus." Oliver said. "Huh. Well, I don't feel any different."
"How about your shoulder?" Kaz was anxious to know if it worked or not.
Oliver moved his shoulder a bit. He grinned. "It's better! There's no pain!"
"Yes! That's great, buddy!" Kaz exclaimed happily, high-fiving his friend.
"I'm so glad your shoulder is healed, Oliver." Skylar replied. She smiled and kissed Oliver on the cheek. Oliver blushed.
"Uh…I'm glad too, Skylar." He stated, surprised and at a loss for words.
She kissed me on the cheek! That's one step away from on the lips!
"I gotta go. I want to know if Horace has found any way to get my powers back. See ya." Skylar waved bye and then walked off.
Oliver sighed dreamily, watching Skylar leave. "She's so perfect…"
"Hey dreamboy! Aren't you forgetting something?" Kaz asked, interrupting Oliver's fantasy.
"Huh? What?"
"Oh I don't know. Don't you have someone to thank?" Kaz hinted. "Like me?"
Oliver rolled his eyes. "Thank you, Kaz."
Kaz smiled. "You're welcome, Oliver!"
"So what was Skylar's planet like? Was it nice? Did you take any pictures?"
Kaz hesitated. "Well…it was interesting. I didn't have a camera on me so I couldn't take any pictures, but you'd probably be happier that I didn't."
"Why?" Oliver asked. "What was it like?"
"Oh you know…rocks oozing blue liquid, earthquakes, erupting volcanoes, and diarrhea. Just the usual." Kaz explained.
Oliver's eyes widened. "Wow…that's sure interesting."
"Oh it was!" Kaz replied. "Remind me to never want to do such a thing again. I was close to dying!"
Oliver nodded. "I see…"
"So, what was your day like?" Kaz asked, changing the subject.
"Oh you know. I was just lying on this gurney, in pain, playing some games on my phone."
"That's interesting."
"Not as interesting as your day." Oliver said.
"We sure had quite the adventure, didn't we Oliver?" Kaz asked.
"We sure did, Kaz. We sure did."
