Chapter 33: The Good Life

Christian

Taylor was with Ana and I inside of my office as the lights went out. I was worried about our other two children, but I knew that Sawyer would keep them safe with his life. I pulled Ana and our daughter closer to me as Taylor pulled his gun out pointing it at the door. I heard the tell of the click as it began to open.

"It's Sawyer," I hear Sawyer say as he opened the door all the way flashing a flashlight in our direction.

"Daddy," I hear both Grace and Teddy say as they run into the room.

"Do you know why the power is out?" I finally snap losing patience on all of this. I could see Taylor on the phone in the corner facing out the window as Sawyer stood in front of is with his gun trained on the door. It was a short while later when Taylor moved closer to us.

"Good news, the power is out over most of the city due to a blown power surge. I got in contact with the police from the house, and Hyde is dead," Taylor says with a small smile.

"Are you sure?" I question as I feel Ana relax next to me.

"Yes, it was him. It seems he was waiting on the boat for some time, just waiting for his chance to get to Ana and the kids. The lead officer shot him in the head as he was launching toward them right before we lost contact," he says as I fell a weight lifted off of my shoulders.

"Christian it's over," Ana says as I pull her into a hug and kiss her softly on the lips.

"Yes, it seems that it is finally over," I say leaning my back up against my desk. I felt like I could finally let the deep breath I was holding for the last hour or so out. My family was finally safe and Hyde was out of the picture. We could move forward with our lives.

"I am glad that this is all over," Ana says softly as I run my hands through her hair for a short while as we wait for the all clear from Taylor. We had heard that the house wasn't in any shape for us to return to it. Taylor had a few guys at Escala getting the apartment ready for us. We would have to stay there until the house was cleaned and repaired. I wouldn't allow Hyde to tarnish my family anymore than he already has.

It was several hours later after Ana and the children had finally gotten to sleep that I was able to think about everything that had been going on in the last 24 hours. I just couldn't believe that Hyde had actually once again been able to get so close to the family, but luckily for us no one was home. Jack had jumped up on the sofa as I was watching the flickering of the fire. The police had brought him to the apartment since we weren't allowed back to the house.

"Mr. Grey," Taylor says as he enters the living room. I turn toward him slightly.

"Jason have a seat," I say as he sits opposite of me in the arm chair. Jason Taylor had been my right hand man for long enough to earn my respect. He had put himself in harm's way more times than I would like to think for me and my family.

"Sir, I have called your brother to clean up the house as well as paint or repair any damage caused by the incident," he says watching me.

"Thank you," I say as I continue to look at the fire.

"Sir, Sawyer and Collins watched the feed from the house; Hyde took Bryans and Marks out as he made his way onto the property. There was nothing that the police could do to save either man. I have contacted their families to let them know and arranged for them to be sent home to them," he says as I nod my head. I knew that it couldn't be as simple as Hyde being the only one killed.

"I want them both to get full burial benefits and make a trust for the families," I say as he gives me a nod of the head. I hate having to lose good people. Bryans had been with us for a long time, but Collins was new.

Taylor left me shortly after our small conversation. I got up and made my way to Ana. I found her in our room, but she wasn't alone. No all three of our children were in the room with her. Grace and Teddy were in the middle of the bed, while Ana held Phoebe in her arms. I loved my family so much. I knew when I met Ana I told her I didn't have a heart, but I had to have been lying because I felt so much love as I laid down with my family. I felt so thankful that I was able to have something that I really didn't even know I was missing until Anastasia Steele stumbled into my office that fateful day that changed my life; that very moment she turned my world upside down. The fact that she is something I would never want to change or give up for all the money in the world.

Ana

"Girls clean up this mess before your dad comes home," I say laughing as I see the mess they have made in the kitchen. I loved the fact that my two girls loved to bake. I was still laughing as Christian walked into the kitchen slipping his arms around me.

"Daddy," both girls yell jumping down from the counter still covered in flour right into his waiting arms.

"Hey how are my two favorite girls," he says picking them both up. I loved to watch him with them because he was always so gentle and loving to them and of course our son who right now must have been hiding. It never ceased to amaze me that Grace who was 10, Phoebe who just turned 5 loved to hang out in the kitchen waiting for us to come home with some sort of a mess. Then there was Teddy who was 7 who liked to hide waiting for us to find him. This was always the way we found our darlings after a trip. Christian and I had just gotten back from New York on business for Grey Publishing. I needed to meet with an up and coming new author who couldn't come to Seattle, so I joined Christian on his trip to kill two stones with one trip.

"Honey we seem to be missing a child," Christian says as he puts the girls down. They both turn to us laughing as we both turn to see what they were looking at. Our son was fast asleep under the kitchen table holding tightly to his teddy bear that we had gotten him on our last trip as a family to the San Diego Zoo.

We had been able to enjoy life and put all the bad things of our past behind us once both Elena and Hyde were out of the picture. Our family had been able to move forward at a good pace as well. I was CEO of Grey Publishing, but also enjoyed editing new authors who came our way, and Christian had been able to finally close the door on his past. A lot of his issues that were tied to Elena and his mother were put to rest once our family was safe.

Christian who was currently under the dining room table pulling our half awake son out looked up to me with a huge grin on his face! It was the moments like this that made me proud to be his wife. He once told me he was a man without a heart, but he was wrong. He had a huge heart that loved our family, and I never let him forget that.

I watched from the counter as our daughters helped Gail clean up their baking mess. It wasn't as big as a disaster as it use to be. They have been able to actually bake a few times without making the cookies to salty or burning them. Christian is soon out from under the table with our son in his arms and seated next to me at the counter.

"You know if someone would have told me I would be sitting in a house on the sound with a gorgeous wife and three children I would have laughed at them," he says as Teddy moves from his lap to mine as we continue to watch our daughters.

"Yes, but we were so worth it," I smirk back at him as he just kisses my cheek and laughs.

"Yes, you all were worth it," he says as I turn back to our girls. Teddy was playing with my hair as I laughed at how much flour was actually on the counters and floor. I really wondered if they even got any of it in the cookies.

"Mom, were going to be late," Phoebe says as she runs down the stairs to the living room. I was currently finishing up my latest edits of a novel for Mia. She had written a rough copy of what it was like losing the person you love. It had been sitting in my desk for a few years when she finally decided she was ready for it to be published.

"Phoebe, darling calm down," I hear her dad says softly as I enter the foyer.

"You look great sweetheart," I say as I see her in the soft navy blue dress she picked out. It had a nice cut to the top of it and was long enough to keep Christian from having a fit.

"Okay remember do not embarrass me," she says as the doorbell chimes. She was our last child at home. Grace was 22 years old and in her fourth year at Harvard getting her degree to become a lawyer like her grandfather, Teddy was 19 years old and just finished his second year at Harvard. He still had yet to decide what he wanted to do with his life. Christian though helped him pick out several business classes hoping for him to take over Grey House. Phoebe was a senior in high school and attending her first High School dance. She had been elected to the Homecoming Court. She would find out tonight at the football game if she was Homecoming Queen or not.

"Mr. Grey, Mrs. Grey," Logan Marshall says as Taylor leads him into the house.

"Logan how is the team doing," Christian asks as I just shake my head. Logan was the quarterback for the school that the kids went to. He was pretty darn good.

"We are undefeated and plan to be that after this game," he says proudly.

"You know the rules, keep her safe and stay close to the security at all times," Christian says in his stern fatherly voice to our daughter as she rolls her eyes.

"Dad, it's just a game," she smirks back to him as I put my hand on his shoulder.

"Take care of her," he says as we watch Sawyer lead them to the waiting SUV.

"Are you ready for a High School Football game?" he questions as he slips on a jacket and holds mine out for me.

"Yes, Grace and Teddy will meet us there with the rest of the family," I say as he shuts the door and we join Taylor and Gail in the second waiting SUV. We were able to have such a good life that we could enjoy family moments like this. I have often thought back to that fateful day when Hyde was killed in our home, what if we were home. Would I be here right now with Christian? I would like to say that I would, but knowing how he murdered two men in cold blood I knew I wouldn't. I let those thoughts go so that I could make new memories with my loving family.

I smile at Grace and Teddy as we join Christian's parents. I see Elliot and Kate down one step from us and Mia on the other side of the aisle with one of the boys. Yes we were all lucky that we got the chance to live our life, we have lost some of the people we love over time, but have moved forward to remember what really matters in life. Family and love matters the most. I clap with the rest of the family as I watch my baby get her crown as Queen and smile at how life as turned out for my family.
