Chapter 6
~Beauty & the Beast~
Vincent stared at the hybrid sitting next to him and wondered how in the world did he get dragged into Klaus's mess. If he had everything his way, he would be spending time with JT and Catherine inside the Gentlemen's Guild and drinking a bottle of beer. However, considering that he, Catherine, Dean and Klaus are four hours outside of New York City, those plans were not possible.
"If you keep staring at me like that, I'll rip your eyes straight out of their sockets," the hybrid threatened. "It's annoying."
Dean scoffed from the driver's seat. "You're one to talk." There was a pause. "If you threaten anyone in my car again, I'm going to kick you out and you'll have to find your own way to New Orleans."
"Besides," Vincent added, "If you gouge out my eyes, then I can't be of much help, can I?" Hopefully, that little tidbit of a reminder would keep Klaus on his leash. He could handle Klaus's temper but he's not sure he'd be able to match Klaus's speed or strength. One day, he would definitely like to find out, though.
"If you think my ripping out your eyes would prove you to be an invaluable asset would stop me from doing so, you have another thing coming, Vincent." Klaus chuckled. "However, because your anatomy intrigues me and I have yet to prove your skills in a fair fight, consider this empty threat a warning."
Vincent rolled his eyes. Never has he ever met someone so...strange before. First, Klaus threatens him and second, he takes it all back! Does he ever go through any of his death threats or is the hybrid simply all talk? Vincent shook his head and said, "Make one wrong move and we'll see who is begging for his life."
Klaus grinned. "You really think you're stronger than me, don't you, Vincent? Perhaps a challenge in New Orleans is in order."
"If only it means I don't have to hear your annoying British voice for the next ten hours of Road Trip Day 1, I'm in. Consider your challenge accepted." Vincent replied but before he could add anything else, Dean cut him off.
"Cut it out back there!" He looked at Catherine. "It's like having a pair of kids in the back seat." He looked at a sign detailing a restop ahead. "Anyone need to use the bathroom or stretch their legs?"
While Vincent and Klaus continued bickering back and forth, Catherine shook her head in disdain as muttered, "How am I going to survive the whole trip with a bunch of testosterones?" Remembering that Dean had asked a question, she looked at him and said, "Please stop. Anything to escape the two in the back for a short while."
Dean smirked. "You and me both…" He turned onto the rest-stop exit and pulled into the parking lot. "Alright kiddos, time for a potty break. You've got fifteen minutes then we have to move on."
"I'm staying right here," Klaus said as he folded his arms and leaned back into his seat. "Vampires or even hybrids do not need to make trivial stops in order to relieve themselves. However...now that I think about it, I think a snack is in order."
"Stuff it, Klaus. Remember I've got an arsenal in the trunk that could knock you out for a few hours at a time. Careful with what you say," Dean warned.
"Well, if you want to make things easy," Klaus smirked, "one of you could offer your blood to me. In that respect, we would all win; I would get the blood I need and no one would have to die on my watch. What do you say to that, young chaps?"
"You're sickening." Vincent replied as he slipped out of the Impala. "Do you honestly think one of us would volunteer to give you our blood?"
"Honestly, Vincent, I know not of what upsets you. Considering you are not human, I would not even try to taste your blood-who knows what could happen if I do. What I need is fresh human blood and if no one is going to offer an arm, I'll have to find a donor on my own." Klaus said sternly as he furrowed his eyebrows.
Dean sighed. "Relax. I've got a cooler of blood bags from a hospital in the trunk. Sammy and I went and got them before we left."
"Marvelous," Klaus clapped and smiled wickedly, "Well don't just stand there, Dean Winchester. You don't want to keep a hungry hybrid waiting, do you?"
"Wait," Catherine said, causing Dean, Klaus and Vincent to look at her. "Maybe we should feed him after we get back from the restrooms? I mean, what if we give him a blood unit and someone sees him drinking from it?" Catherine walked around the car to Vincent and wrapped her arm around his back.
"The dude's over a thousand years old; I'm sure he knows how to make sure people don't see him drinking a vampire Caprison," Dean said as he got out of the car.
"Actually," Vincent stated, "I agree with Catherine on this one. Not only would we save ourselves the trouble of someone possibly finding out about vampires but it might keep him quiet down the road if he has something to slurp."
Catherine shivered at the thought of Klaus slurping blood out of a unit. The words slurp and blood just didn't sound like a good mixture to her.
"Here's a brilliant idea," Klaus chimed in, "How about you get me that blood-bag you promised me and then I won't have to jump out of the car and lash someone's throat out. I think that blonde-headed woman walking her black poodle would be a nice snack, don't you?"
"I take that back," Catherine replied, "Just give him the damn bag. And then give him another before we leave so he won't have to bug us about it anymore."
"Sounds good to me," Vincent nodded and looked at Dean.
Dean weighed the options. "We'll give him one now and bring the cooler to the front seat. Cat, you can be on vampire food duty for the rest of the ride." He looked at Klaus. "But if you get a single drop on my seats, the cooler is staying in the trunk and we won't stop until I say we stop."
"And the man has spoken!" Klaus laughed. "Let's get one thing straight, everyone; you three aren't going to New Orleans for a silly vacation. Once we're there, you're on my turf and you will regret ordering me around in my own kingdom."
"You guys can continue arguing about some stupid blood bags, but I'm going to go to the restroom." Catherine said as she started walking down the sidewalk. "I hope that when I get back, everything will be resolved."
"Holler if you need anything," Dean called after her as he opened the trunk and took the cooler out. He grabbed a bag and went around to the back seat and tossed it to Klaus. "Drink up." He stood up straight and turned to Vincent. "You go ahead; I'll babysit the monster."
"You sure?" Vincent questioned Dean's offer.
Dean nodded. "Yeah. I'll go when you get back."
"Thanks man." Vincent waved and rushed off to catch up with Catherine. He didn't like the feeling of leaving Dean with Klaus but he trusted Dean's knowledge and skills. However, if Klaus even tries something against Dean, Vincent will see to it that Klaus's heart is ripped out himself.
"Are you sure all of this is a good idea?" Catherine asked as he caught up with her. "You know, going to New Orleans with a highly mental hybrid?"
"No...but what choice do we have?" Vincent asked his girlfriend. "Besides, maybe a trip outside of New York will do us some good." he smirked.
"I would like to think that." Catherine smiled and looked at Vincent. Before departing to their separate facilities, they leaned in for a quick kiss. "See you in a few?"
"Yeah." Vincent nodded as he disappeared behind the Men's bathroom door.
~Supernatural~
Dean sat back down in the driver's seat when Vincent left for the bathroom. He reached over to the glove compartment and found the beef jerky Sam had hidden from him earlier. Before taking a bite, he reached over to the rearview mirror and arranged it to where he could see Klaus in the back seat. Smirking, he took a bite of his jerky.
"What's got you sneering so happily about?" Klaus asked.
"I've got an Original I'm not too fond of in the back seat of my car," Dean said. "If I knew how to gank you, I'd be the happiest man on earth."
"You're a man of many words, aren't you?" Klaus chuckled as he sipped from his blood bag.
Dean shrugged. "Perhaps…"
"I take it you haven't been up against an Original before, aye?" Klaus replied, "I hate to break it to you, lad, but like my brothers and sister, I cannot be killed. I am an immortal being. You can think of any creative way to try to kill me, but I assure you, your plans will fail miserably."
Dean paused to think. "But everything dies. Everything has to die, Klaus. Meaning, you can be killed. Sam may or may not be researching that as we speak so tread lightly."
Klaus grinned. "Your enthusiasm is intriguing! You really must want to kill me, don't you?" He leaned forward and placed his elbows on top of the shoulders of the front seats. "Perhaps your brother is looking for a way to kill me-what then? By the time he even finds one, I will be long gone and your chance will be no more."
Dean shifted in his seat. "I'll make a deal with you. How about you play nice and I won't try to kill you?" He actually had another idea in mind, but Sam would never forgive him if he went through with it.
"Perhaps…" Klaus's smile widened, "Perhaps there is an idea running along that thick skull of yours. However, I sense your uneasiness; what's wrong Dean? Little brother keeps bossing you around?"
The elder Winchester narrowed his brows and turned to face Klaus. "Sam's not well. This angel was supposed to heal him after we tried to close the Gates of Hell, but it didn't do him much good. He claims he's fine… but he's broken inside…" Dean confessed.
"Ahhh...a guilty conscience. How about I save you a great deal of heartache and help you...flip the switch, per se. You can forget about all of your pain and can live your life without having to always feel sorry for your younger brother. You can finally be free of him. What do you say? Of course, you could say no but then you'd always feel trapped in a world where your brother's needs come first." Klaus shrugged. "The choice is yours, however."
"No. Sam needs me… It was one of the last promises I made my dad. To protect Sam, to keep him safe." Dean paused. "I know that some types of vampire blood have healing abilities. If you could… heal Sam… I won't try to kill you or go looking for you when when this all blows over."
"If your posse can help me in New Orleans and if you survive, I might consider helping you. No matter how much I abhor humans, I still value my own family and can tell you value yours as well. Oh good! The Disney couple has finally returned!"
Dean shifted his eyes from the rearview mirror and saw Vincent and Catherine walking down the sidewalk with their hands interlocked. "About damn time." Dean muttered and hopped out of his car. "What took you so long? Did you have a makeout session in one of the bathroom stalls?"
"I'll have you know," Catherine frowned, "That just because Vincent and I are dating, it doesn't mean we have our hands all over each other every time we are alone. And no! We didn't. The ladies room had a long line and Vincent was so courteous to wait for me."
"So it was a quicky in the woods behind the building?" Dean smirked.
Catherine smacked her head and Vincent rolled his eyes as they met up with Dean at the car. "How about this, Dean," Vincent chimed in, "Find a girl for yourself before you start making comments about Catherine's and my love life."
Dean shrugged. "I've tried. In my line of business, girlfriends don't pan out."
"That's too bad." Vincent replied as he tugged on Catherine's side, pulling her closer to him. "You're missing an entire world out there."
Dean thought about all the girls he had ever truly loved through the years and what had happened to them because of him… because of the job. "I'll stick with my porn stash, lover boy."
"Whatever floats your boat, I guess." Vincent shrugged and walked Catherine over to the passenger side of the car. "You go and do your thing, Dean. Catherine and I can watch things from here."
Dean looked at the couple. "I'm not even going to comment… that sounded so wrong…"
Both Vincent and Catherine rolled their eyes. "You knew what I meant." Vincent replied and Catherine muttered something like, "Men...and their gutters."
Smirking, Dean made his way to the bathroom.
~Beauty & the Beast~
The group finally left the rest stop and headed for the interstate. They had a long way ahead of them and if they wanted to get to Roanoke, Virginia by nightfall, they were going to have to make quicker stops. Either that, or they would just have to limit their stops.
Vincent gave up on keeping an eye on Klaus because he believed that since the hybrid hadn't done anything since they've left in the morning, he figured he wouldn't try anything for the remainder of the trip. However, once they were done with New Orleans, Vincent didn't know what Klaus had intended to do with them. As he stared out the window, he couldn't help but think about how Klaus easily convinced everyone to cooperate with him. Everything was a little hazy but he was sure Klaus had said something or done something that rerouted his thinking pattern. However, if anything, Vincent did remember mostly everything that had transpired the day before.
Flashback
"Now that I have your attention, let's get down to business, shall we?" Everyone stared at Klaus and even though they wanted to do something to try and help Gabe, they couldn't risk it.
"Just let him go," Vincent said as his eyes started to glow. "You have our attention, Klaus."
"V's right. Let him go," Dean added, "Or you'll wish you never threatened us."
"Oh but this is so much fun!" Klaus smiled. "You see, while you had me trapped in that godforsaken vault, I couldn't do much of anything. Now, however, the tables are turned and I have all of you begging at my feet. If I let the chap go, you'll do whatever you can to subdue me. However, if I continue to hold onto him, no one will try anything."
Vincent could feel the beast emerging. He really couldn't care squat for Gabe but if he let Klaus kill the DA, what would that say about him? A monster letting another monster kill a human? Vincent refused to allow his darker desires take control of him. "Klaus," Vincent spoke as he took one step closer towards the hybrid. "If you kill Gabe, not only will you not receive my help, but your efforts of coming to New York City will be meaningless."
"I can sense your hesitation, Vincent." Klaus chuckled, "I take it you do not care for this man?"
Vincent didn't answer. He stared at Klaus with fire in his eyes as he felt his claws surfacing.
"Very well." Klaus smirked. In seconds, he released Gabe and pushed him towards the group while he briefly disappeared from his spot and reappeared with Catherine locked in his arm instead. "You might not care what happens to the DA but something tells me you won't want to refuse my offer if I have your precious girlfriend's life in my very hands."
Vincent's fangs appeared and he growled, "Let her go!"
"Let's get something straight," Klaus replied as he tightened his grip around Catherine's neck. Catherine, however, decided to play his game because, when Klaus least expects it, she was so going to kick his ass. "You do what I say and everyone lives."
"Just name your damn request and let her go!" Dean cursed as he pointed his gun at Klaus.
"Haven't you learned already? Silly artillery will not work on me." Klaus chuckled sadistically but then frowned. "As I have said before, I your skills, Vincent, in New Orleans. You, your girlfriend and one of the Hunter-wannabes will come with me to my hometown and will aide me for as long as I need your services. If you do as I see fit, I promise everyone will return in one piece. However, if one or all of you betray me, I can promise a very painful demise."
"What's in it for us?" Sam asked. "I mean, if you only need three of us to help you, why not kill the rest of us?"
"Dude!" JT hissed. "Don't give him any ideas!"
"As tempting as that thought sounds, Sammy, I have plans for all of you. It may not be right at the moment, but if I kill you, I cannot seek the help I need in the future. Besides, as twisted as my methods are, I am also after those bastards who took my hybrid away from me. Since I do not know who or what I am up against, I may need access to a database or even your special little book," He furrowed his eyebrows but then smiled, "In any case, let's all promise to work together and no one will have to die by my hand. Do we have a deal or do I have to squeeze her pretty little neck even harder?"
End of Flashback
Mostly everything else was a blur but he can remember finally consenting to Klaus's deal but he could swear that something happened before the consent. As to what? Vincent couldn't really remember. Something did confuse him, however. He was standing a good four or so feet from Klaus while the hybrid held Catherine captive. For some odd reason, the next thing he remembered was finding himself on the ground with Catherine unconscious in his arms and Klaus telling him that after he released Catherine, she had tripped on the rug and knocked her head against the table beside her. Klaus had also told him that he had fed her some of his blood so her wounds would heal. However, something told him Catherine didn't bang her head against the table or even trip for that matter. Something happened, but he couldn't exactly remember what it was.
Hopefully, in due time, he would remember. If Klaus had done anything to destroy his trust and try to cover it up, he swore to himself that he would find out.
~New York City~
JT paced back and forth as he waited for Vincent to call to let him know when they've stopped for lunch. It's noon and his best friend still hadn't called him yet.
"Relax, JT," he heard Tess say as she grabbed a beer from the bar, "He'll call."
"Relax?" JT pressed his hand against his chest and looked at Catherine's partner, "Relax!? How can I relax? Vincent is traveling to New Orleans in a car with a blood sucking hybrid! For all we know, Klaus could turn his back on V and kill him as well as Cat and, God forbid I include him, Dean! So I ask one more time: how in the friggin' world am I supposed to relax?!"
Before Tess could respond, JT grabbed a beer, popped it open and chugged down the entire bottle.
"Think about it this way," Sam suddenly chimed in, "if Klaus even tries to kill Dean, Vincent or Catherine, he will have to answer to us-all of us."
"I still think I should have gone with them, Sam." Cas said softly.
"I know, Cas," Sam smiled, "However, since you've lost your wings, I don't know how much you would've been able to do. Though, I think you'll be more help here."
Cas nodded, his blue eyes staring at Sam. "So what are we going to do?"
"I think we should just wait here until V, Cat and Dean get back." JT replied as he grabbed another beer.
Sam shook his head. "No, we should continue investigating. Who knows how long they're going to be there? We need to do as much as we can here so that when they get back, we can solve this thing."
"I was afraid you were going to say that." JT said after sipping down a gulp of his alcoholic beverage, "Looks like I've gotta get working on my computers...I'm sure these new programs I've purchased should be able to pinpoint something for us." He walked around the bar and strolled over to his computer chair before turning on the main server. JT knew he should do his part up in the big NYC while his best friend is rendezvousing down south, but still, he couldn't help but worry for his beastly friend.
"Okay," Tess exclaimed as she stood up and cracked her knuckles, "While you guys do all of the geeky headache stuff, I'll go to the precinct and see if Gabe figured anything out. That DA has to be good for something, right?" Without saying goodbye, she walked out of the guild and let JT, Sam and Cas do their work.
Sam lifted the duffel-bag full of books he had gotten from the trunk of the Impala and set it on the bar.
"What you got there, man?" JT asked as he turned around and watched the younger Winchester dig through the bag and pull out a few different musty books.
Sam smirked as he made his way over to JT with a stack. "Research," he said as he placed the stack on the desk. "We need to see if we can find anything about hybrids. Anything about their origins, how they can be created… and perhaps the proper way to kill them."
Castiel took a book from the duffel-bag. "Is there anything else?"
Sam shrugged. "Not until you find something."
"Okay, while you two stick to the leaves, I'll save my time and energy by looking up anything I can find on my trusty friend, the World Wide Web. Perhaps my twitter peeps might know something." JT smirked but saw the weird looks on his new friends' faces. "I was kidding about that last part, by the way."
Sam leaned over JT and flipped open the top book. "I looked earlier. Couldn't find a whole lot. These books should have something." He stepped back and went to the bar. "Books first, if we can't find anything, we'll use the internet as a last resort." The younger Winchester pulled out a book for himself and opened it as he sat down on a stool.
"By any chance," JT asked as he slowly flipped through one of the books, "did you happen to upload the contents onto a Kindle or something? It would make life a heck of a lot easier if I had a find button to narrow down my search." He couldn't believe just how much it took to be a hunter-not that he would ever go into that sort of business anyway. But still, he had to wonder, did Dean and Sam always go through such extreme measures to find what they're looking for? When he didn't hear Sam answer him, he just dismissed the question and started skimming through the Table of Contents.

~The Impala~
It was night now. The headlights of the old, dark car guided its travelers along the long, dreary road. Dean lazily held the steering wheel with his right hand. He sighed and looked at Cat asleep in the passenger's seat. He smiled, half wishing he had what Vincent had. But he knew it could never work… there was a time he did have the relationship that the beast shared with the beauty, but he shuddered as he remembered what had happened to his love and her son. He straightened his posture a bit and looked in the rear-view mirror to see if the two abnormalities of nature were asleep or if they were just really really quiet. Klaus stared blankly at Dean, while Vincent's attention seemed to be on his sleeping girlfriend. Unable to take the silence, Dean switched hands on the wheel and grabbed a cassette tape from the console before popping it into the player on the dash. Poison's "Every Rose Has its Thorns" played quietly through the speakers. Dean didn't want to wake Catherine.
"Out of all the technologies out there that are used to play music, you choose to use a cassette tape. How classic," Klaus criticized. "Ever heard of an iPod?"
"Sam did that once and it defiled Baby," Dean was quick to answer. "She's better with the tape player. It keeps her classic."
"You could choose better music as well," the hybrid suggested.
"I guess I wasn't clear when we started this road trip," Dean muttered. "Remember what I said? Driver picks the music, passengers shut their cake-holes. Meaning you should shut up."
"Dean," Vincent suddenly chimed in before the hybrid could respond to Dean's statement, "You've been driving all day. Would you like to switch and let me take over the wheel for a while?"
The elder Winchester shook his head. "I'm used to it. I could go all night, but I think we'll have to stop at a motel for a few hours." Dean narrowed his eyebrows suspiciously. "This isn't some clever ploy to let you drive so you can change the music, is it?"
"Not at all," Vincent slowly shook his head. "I dig the classics."
"Finally, someone with a good taste in music." Dean gave a sigh of relief.
"Take it from someone who hasn't owned any type of Apple music device in ten years: when you're living a life of hiding, you kinda have no choice but to love the classics. The warehouse-where JT and I used to live-couldn't play any music that could give off any type of signal. We couldn't play the radio or use any smart device carelessly. So, without modern technology, we stayed with cassettes if ever we wanted to listen to some tunes. Hell, sometimes we even used JT's old record player if we really wanted to get classy." Vincent smirked and then noticed Catherine stirring in her sleep.
Dean grinned. "You are on the fast track of becoming my best friend, with that comment alone."
Vincent laughed quietly but didn't removed his eyes from Catherine. "You might have to wrestle with JT for that position, I'm afraid."
Dean chuckled. "I think I could take him."
Vincent sucked in air through his teeth, "I don't know...JT packs quite the punch. I've suffered quite a few shiners from him back in the day."
"Has JT fought a demon or five at a time and left with only a few scratches?"
"Does tranquing a beast five times his strength count?" Vincent smirked as he waited for Dean's reply.
"I guess… How about couple of powerful ghosts? Or an Angel? or Leviathan? Or a couple of Vampires?" At the mention of vampires, Dean looked at Klaus through the mirror.
"Hmmm," Vincent paused to think, "Well, I'm not sure if we've ever met any ghosts or a levi-ah-whatchamacallits. And we have met at least two hybrids...but JT hasn't had the chance to face one himself…as for an angel," he smiled, "He has gone up against Catherine but she beat the crap out of him."
Dean laughed, and surprisingly so did Klaus. "You all have certainly seen more than I thought...I mean I knew the Winchesters have been through a lot, but you and your friends, Vincent, I had no idea. Perhaps I've made a good choice."
"Hopefully vampires and hybrids are the last things my friends and I have to deal with in regards to the Supernatural. I'm not going to lie, I liked not knowing about this whole other world out there." Vincent replied honestly. "I guess not knowing about you guys has made me feel more human...than a beast. Now that I do know about this other world, I don't know...It kind of makes me feel like I'm more of a beast than I originally thought I was."
"That's not necessarily a bad thing, though," Dean said. "You still have your humanity intact. A lot of the bastards Sam and I have faced were so far off the map, you would have thought they would eventually bring out a set of red light sabers." He paused. "But not you. You've got a heart…Unlike the old guy next to you."
Klaus scoffed and folded his arms across his chest. "I've got a heart. I just refuse to show it. It's a sign of weakness."
"I'll believe that when I see it," Dean retorted. "There's a sign for a motel. Should I turn in? I'll pay for the rooms."
"If you don't mind," Vincent replied, "I don't think Catherine would appreciate sleeping in a car seat all night. I would think she'd like to sleep on an actual bed for at least part of the night. But that begs the question," he looked over at Klaus, "what are we going to do about him?"
Dean had already thought about this. He figured that V and Cat would want to share a room; he wasn't going to pay for a third room so… "He'll bunk with me. We'll get a double bed room and I'll line the doors and windows with vervain and wolfsbane. I'll give him his cooler of blood bags and take him out for a walk at sunrise."
"I am so glad I am in such good hands," Klaus rolled his eyes. "You humans really love taking precautions don't you."
Dean smirked as he pulled into the parking lot and parked the car. "We know your track record. We don't want to make mistakes." He turned the Impala off and took the key out of the ignition. "Let me grab your leash, vampwolf, and then we can go rent the cage and bridal suite."
"You have quite the way of words, don't you Dean Winchester." Klaus said as he stepped out of the Impala. "If you're worried about me being a bad dog tonight, you shouldn't. If there's anything you need to know about me, it is that I keep my promises. No bloodshed tonight; you have my word."
Dean of course didn't want to take any chances. "Said the wolf to the sheep." He opened the door and got out, pocketing his keys. "We'll be right back," he told Vincent.
"Right. I'll stay here with Catherine until you've paid for the rooms. It's better to leave her asleep for as long as possible." Vincent nodded to Dean.
"Got it," Dean said before closing the door. He started to walk towards the main office of the one-story motel. "Come on werevamp, let the happy couple be."
"As you wish, hunter." Klaus mumbled loud enough for Dean to hear him as he followed the eldest Winchester into the motel's main lobby.
~Beauty & the Beast~
Ten or so minutes after Dean and Klaus walked into the motel's main office, Vincent finally saw the pair walking back to the car. Taking that as his cue, Vincent unbuckled his seatbelt, opened his door, hopped out of the Impala and closed its door. He then walked over to the front passenger door and slowly opened it, careful not to wake up his sleeping beauty. As quietly as he could, he unbuckled her seatbelt and gently slipped his arms around her back and underneath her legs. "Catherine," he muttered softly, "we're at the motel."
She slowly opened her eyes to his voice and nodded before slipping back into her slumber. Chuckling to himself, he managed to lift her out of the vehicle and tapped the door closed with his foot. As he walked away from the car, he stopped when he saw Dean walk over and lock his Baby. "I'm going to take her to our room now." he whispered to Dean. "You have the key, right?"
Dean nodded as he made his way to the door of V's room. "Yeah." He put the key in the door, unlocked it, and pushed the door open. "I'll let the key there. You can get it when you set her down." He moved out of the way, to his and Klaus' door and did the same, only taking the key from the lock when he was finished.
"Thanks," Vincent smiled. Dean was a good guy and he could see their friendship going a long way. "Be wary of Klaus, Dean."
"Honestly," Klaus rolled his eyes, "If you're going to warn the older Winchester off about me, you might as well not say it in my presence. What is it with this generation these days?"
Ignoring Klaus, Dean said, "Don't worry, I sleep with one eye open." Dean entered his room and Klaus followed silently.
Vincent walked into the motel room and placed Catherine gently on the bed before retrieving the key. After locking everything up, he realized he forgot her bag in the car. "Hey," he whispered as he tried to coax her awake.
Once more, she fluttered her eyes open at the sound of his voice and instantly winced from the beaming lights piercing through her eyes. Groaning, she mumbled, "Are we there yet?"
"Not yet," Vincent laughed. "We've stopped for tonight and I thought I would wake you up in case you needed to do anything to get ready for bed. I have to go fetch Dean and unlock the car again to get our stuff but I'm sure the motel has soap or something you can use if you want to shower off."
"Okay." Catherine nodded as she stretched her muscles. "You go get the stuff and I'll wait here."
"Alright." Vincent replied and gave Catherine a quick kiss on the cheek. "I'll be back."
"Mhmm." he heard her mumble as he slipped out of the motel room. As he walked over to Dean and Klaus's room, he overheard yelling whispers echoing through the door. Instead of interrupting them, he decided to wait until they were done but he couldn't help but overhear the hunter and the hybrid's conversation.
~Supernatural~
Dean threw his bag on the bed he claimed for the night. "So what was that back there at the Gentlemen's Guild?"
"Pardon?" Klaus asked stoically.
The elder Winchester sat down on the bed and began to remove his boots. "You know… that little attempt at a Jedi mind trick."
"You are quite the actor, Dean Winchester," Klaus smirked as he pulled down the covers on his bed, "Had I known you and, I assume your brother, were dosed with Vervain, I would have been more careful with my tactics. Very well done, my friend. I'm surprised you haven't mentioned anything about it until now. What would Vincent say if he learned that you kept quite the secret away from him?"
Dean shrugged. "I imagine he wouldn't be too happy with me." He unzipped his bag. "But as a hunter, I've learned to be cautious. I don't think he should know what you did. Sam and I agreed not to tell them. For their own safety."
"In my defense," Klaus replied slowly, "Vincent's girlfriend attacked me first. She was asking for it."
Dean scoffed. "But you didn't need to attack back. That was a stupid move."
"Granted, I overreacted and may have shoved her a little too hard but, like I said, she had it coming. She's just lucky she lived after that tiny toss across the room." Klaus couldn't help but smirk at the memory of seeing Vincent's face when he threw Catherine towards the wall. "Besides, I had everything under control. Aside from you and your brother, no one else can remember anything."
Dean smirked. "You should be thankful V doesn't remember. If he were to find out, he'd kill you." He pulled a toothbrush and tube of toothpaste from his bag. "And because of our deal, I can't have that. Reason why I haven't said anything."
"Trust me," Klaus said as he looked at Dean with a sadistic grin plastered on his narrow face, "Vincent killing me is the least of my worries. He may try to kill me over a thousand times but he won't succeed. Remember? I'm an immortal being. His lover is lucky she wasn't killed within twenty-four hours of drinking from my blood. That would have made things certainly more interesting if I should say so myself."
Dean stood up and went to the bathroom. "Watch it, Klaus." He put the toothpaste on the toothbrush, and then proceeded to brush his teeth.
"Let's not forget, Dean, if not for my blood, she would have probably bled to death-eventually, that is. If Vincent were to ever find out about my little cover-up, he should be grateful that I chose to save his woman rather than disappear on the spot."
Dean rolled his eyes as he spit into the sink. "On another note," he grabbed a towel from the rack. "What is the exact reason we find ourselves going to New Orleans? How does this relate to the case?"
"One question at a time, hunter." Klaus smirked. "One question at a time."
Before Dean could reply, they heard a knock resonate from the door. Dean made his way across the room and looked through the little peephole and saw Vincent. Oh crap. What if he had heard? How long had he been out there? Dean took a deep breath and played it cool as he opened the door. "Hey,V," he said casually. "How's it goin?"
"Hey." Vincent replied stoically, "I left a few of Catherine's things in your car. Mind if you give me the keys so I can fetch them?"
Dean raised his eyebrows. "Oh right!" he dug into his pockets and produced the car keys, handing them to Vincent. "Be gentle with Baby and bring the keys right back when you've got what you need."
"Right. Thanks, man." Vincent nodded as he clutched his hand around the keys and disappeared within the blink of an eye.
"Damn he's fast." Dean muttered under his breath as he closed the door.
~Beauty & the Beast~
As Vincent raced to the car, he couldn't help but feel disappointed. He thought Dean and Sam were good guys-that they were honest beings who could actually relate to his situation. However, after overhearing Dean's conversation with Klaus, he could not deny to himself that he felt a little hurt. He thought he could trust Dean and Sam, but perhaps they weren't any different than Klaus.
He quickly unlocked the car, grabbed his and Catherine's small bag out of the trunk before closing it and relocking the vehicle. Whatever he had heard in Dean and Klaus's room, he had to pretend that nothing had changed. As much as he wanted to rip Klaus's throat apart, he still felt like this trip to New Orleans would be beneficial towards the case back in New York City. So, for now, he would put on a facade and make both Dean and Klaus think he trusts them, when in fact, all they will be playing is a harsh game of Liar, Liar.
Vincent gave the keys back to Dean and walked back to his own motel room. He quietly opened the door in case Catherine had fallen asleep but, to his surprise, she was still awake. He smiled. No matter what he had been feeling, she always brightened his day. Or, in this case, his night. He walked over to her, placed their bag at the foot of their bed and said, "Hey."
"Hey, yourself." she replied as she pulled the bag to her lap and unzipped it. He stared at her as she pulled out a black cami and white shorts for herself as well as a clean pair of boxers for him too. It didn't take long for them to shower and get ready for bed. They were both beat and wanted to get into bed quickly. "Hey Vincent," Catherine suddenly spoke as she slipped into the bed next to him. She wrapped her arms around his torso and looked into his eyes, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Vincent thought about keeping the knowledge of Dean away from her but then he wouldn't be any different from Dean or Klaus. He sighed and replied, "I just think...I think we need to be on guard and...not trust people so easily."
"Why? What happened?" Catherine asked out of concern.
Vincent scooted further down into the bed before enveloping his girlfriend into his arms. "I overheard Dean and Klaus talking a few minutes ago…. Apparently, Dean has been holding something back from us...Dean and his brother." When Catherine didn't say anything, he continued, "Let's just say that something happened yesterday and Dean or Sam should have told me right after I was made to forget it. I'm tired, why don't we talk more about it some other time."
"Alright," Catherine nodded. "But I'm going to hold you to that promise, Mister." she playfully jabbed her pointer finger into his chest.
"I don't doubt you will." he smirked and pulled her in for a long-lasting kiss, knowing that she was the only one he could ever fully trust. Well, aside from his best friend, JT Forbes.
