Chapter 21

Xavier sighed as Mystique left his office, rubbing his forehead.

It took two days, but the shape-shifter had finally gotten over the news that she was going to be a grandmother, while Erik would be a grandfather to the same child. Of course now that she was over the shock, her anger at him had come out.

She'd just spent two hours yelling/lecturing him about the lack of sexual education he offered his students. And when he'd pointed out the lack of the same at the school she had formerly been principal at and the students attended, she pointed out that she had lobbied for the class, but that it had been the school board's decision, and they had denied the class every time.

He didn't know whether to be aggravated at the former spy's anger, indignation, and blame or pleased that she was taking such an interest in the Institute's students, even if it was two students in particular.

As it was, now the students would be enduring three mandatory sex-ed classes with Mystique. One class would actually be a boy/girl specific class that was actually two, with both sexes being split. One would be a heterosexual class. And one would be a homosexual class.

Everyone would be required to attend each class, that way no one would be singled out for their personal preferences.

He just prayed that Mystique didn't traumatize his students.

It was Tuesday afternoon, and Wanda was managing the store by herself, as Rose had gone to check on the progress of home construction at the land she had purchased. She'd also informed Wanda that afterward, she was going to stop and look at cars.

It wasn't that she actually needed one, but she explained to Wanda the need for acting as though it was.

Though the normally affectionate Hedwig was steadfastly ignoring the brunette.

Not only had Wanda eaten her anchovies, she'd been denied her bacon when the mutant threw-up when Rose was frying it.

The owl kept looking away whenever Wanda came into her line of sight.

She was sitting at the counter doing her homework when the bell to the store rang. Wanda looked up, and saw a blonde woman she didn't recognize, though looked familiar, stepping through the doorway. But as soon as the door closed, and before she could utter a greeting, the woman's hair changed color before her eyes from blonde to red. It was then that Wanda noticed her yellow eyes, that she realized that the woman was a perfect match for mystique, except without the blue skin.

"Mystique," she greeted.

"Wanda," the elder mutant spoke.

There was an awkward silence between the two for a moment before Mystique said, "Kurt tells me you're carrying his child."

Wanda gulped nervously. Normally, she wouldn't give a damn what Mystique thought of her. But she knew that Kurt wanted his mother in his life. Ideally, in Kurt's mind at least, he and Rogue would have a good relationship with Mystique, and the elder mutant would be the mother that she actually was. Wanda knew that Kurt was working on a relationship with her, and trying to mend the very broken fences between Rogue and Mystique. The last thing he needed was his mother and the mother of his child at odds.

"Yes," Wanda confirmed. "We're going to have a daughter together."

Mystique eyed her for a moment. Taking a few steps towards the counter, she asked, "And what about your father?"

"Magneto is no father of mine," Wanda snarled.

The other woman grinned. "That's not what I meant," she said, amused. "I was merely wondering what you would do when he inevitably seeks you out? And he will," she added. "Once your idiot brother sees visible evidence of your pregnancy, he will run to tell daddy dearest. And I can guarantee Magneto will be interested, though whether due to you being his daughter or a powerful mutant I couldn't say."

"Magneto will have no part in my daughter's life. I will make sure of it," she informed the shape-shifter.

Mystique's expression softened slightly. "I know you don't trust me Wanda. Frankly, I don't blame you. But I will promise you this, when Magneto comes, I will stand beside you in front of…in front of my granddaughter." With a slight grin returning to her face she added, "We can build our relationship from there."

Wanda smiled. "I can live with that."

"In that case, why don't you tell me what products you have here? I've heard a lot about them up at the Institute."

Arriving at the local car dealership after visiting the worksite of the two houses she was having built, Rose was in a good mood.

Thanks to her money, the construction on both homes was proceeding rapidly. According to the foreman in charge, the foundations and basements were done and they'd be done with the framing at the end of the week. The estimate was that the houses would be ready to move into just before Halloween at the end of the month. In fact she was contemplating throwing a Halloween themed housewarming party if things kept on track.

She loved having money with which to pay for a large work crew.

So as she was walking through the dealership, she was pleased….

…At least until the salesman began bothering her.

By the time she managed to get away from the man, her mood had greatly diminished.

Still, she'd managed to look at several vehicles, for herself at least. She planned on buying four vehicles, though for now, she could only by two. One car would be hers, one would be a utility/family vehicle for errands and the eventual babysitting of Wanda's child. She also planned on purchasing one vehicle for Wanda and one for Rogue, but she couldn't without either woman.

And she needed to talk both into letting her. Wanda would be easy, she just had to point out her need as a soon-to-be-mother.

Rogue would be more difficult. Once the house was complete, she planned to ask Rogue to move in with her. She was sure her girlfriend would take the opportunity to live in a place she didn't need to be covered up all the time. It wasn't that Rogue didn't like the Institute or the X-Men, but her biggest complaint to Rose about the place was that she always had to be careful due to her skin. Since Rose was immune to it, and she would be putting a fence around both properties (for various reasons), that would be a moot point. Once Rogue agreed to move in, she'd talk to Rogue about getting her own car.

She was playing the long game.

She already knew what she was getting for her private car, a Ferrari F12berlinetta. It was a fast car and she loved the way it looked. But she was here at GM lot because she was unsure about what utility vehicle to get. She just knew it would be a lot cheaper to get. Her options thus far were an SUV, a full sized van, or a minivan.

Rose had already ruled out the full size sized van. But she was unsure about the mini-van or the SUV. She wasn't worried about gas-mileage, she'd knew how to enchant the vehicles so that they didn't need gas and didn't emit anything.

After a minor internal debate, she decided to look at the SUV's as they had more power. She wasn't sure she'd need that power, but since she didn't have to worry about the higher MPG, she figured better safe than sorry.

Rogue was spending the afternoon shopping with Jean, Kitty, and Laura.

The four girls were looking at outfits to wear for the dance on Friday. It wasn't that they actually needed outfits, but it was an excuse for a girl's day out. Rogue would have invited Rose, but she wanted to surprise her girlfriend. She had invited Wanda, but the other woman had begged off, not wanting her not so morning sickness to ruin anything.

She'd admitted that if it didn't mean so much to Kurt, with them having only recently gotten back together, she wouldn't even go to the dance.

Though sneaking away from the other girls to look for some lingerie to wear for Rose had been a bit difficult. She wasn't comfortable enough with Laura, Kitty was still mortified over what she'd walked into Saturday night, and Jean was (at least in Rogues mind) too much of a prude to approve of her buying lingerie to wear specifically for Rose.

Not to mention the fact that there was no way in hell she was going to leave the dressing rooms with so much skin on display in public, so it really was a moot point since she wouldn't be showing her friends anyway.

As she rejoined her friends, she wondered how appreciative Rose would be, and if they'd actually be able to get farther than they had Saturday.

If only Rose wasn't sharing a trunk with Wanda.

Sure, the apartment inside the magical trunk had a guest bedroom which Wanda used, but with the other mutant being pregnant with her niece, Rogue didn't want to take any chances that she may inadvertently harm her or her baby.

Still, the brunette was looking forward to modeling the lingerie for her girlfriend.
