Chapter 10
The chair shattered and the goblin whirled on Kenzi. He growled and rushed forward, wrapping both hands tightly around her throat. Kenzi grabbed his wrists, scratching and jerking with all her might. She didn't have to wait long though, because Dyson stood up behind the goblin and jerked the knife across its throat. The goblin released Kenzi and dropped down. Kenzi fell right along with it. Her body nearly giving out on her. It was all she could do to keep her eyes from sliding shut. Her legs were curled underneath her and she thought sleeping right here on the floor didn't sound like such a bad idea.
"Hey, hey, you ok?" Dyson's face came into her vision and she could see the worry etched into his features.
"Yea, I'm fine, I'm good." She lied and struggled to stand up.
"Are you feeling any exhaustion?" he asked.
"No I'm ok." She lied again.
"You're legs are wobbling and you're having a hard time standing. Quit lying Kenzi." He said.
"I'll be fine Dyson, I swear. What about you, you're bleeding?" Kenzi looked at his upper arm and winced, the gash looked painful.
"I'll heal." He shrugged. Her hand went to his cheek automatically and she touched the small cut along his cheekbone, it was slightly bruised.
"I can take a hit." He chuckled. Kenzi jerked her hand away quickly as Hale ran over to them.
"We good?" Hale asked. Both Dyson and Kenzi nodded.
"Good to see you alive brother." Dyson said. Hale laughed and jerked his thumb toward the door.
"Let's get the hell out of here, I've got an SUV in the garage." Hale lead and they followed. Although it physically pained Kenzi to leave the sport's car in front of the house, Hale promised the car would be fine and they would return for it. Kenzi's body sagged into the comfortable leather seat. Hale and Dyson rambled away in the front seat, but Kenzi couldn't focus on anything they were saying. It felt like bees were flying around in her head. A constant buzz didn't allow her to hear their words. Kenzi felt her stomach flip and her head lolled back. She saw pictures flash through her mind. Pictures of someone Kenzi recognized but couldn't place. Something slammed into Kenzi's head and she fell over in her seat. She felt like she'd just jumped on a roller coaster with too much food in her stomach, and she knew she was going to get sick. Her heart thudded painfully inside her chest and she put her hands over it.
Dyson jerked his head around when a pained gasped echoed from the backseat. Kenzi was slumped over in the seat, her eyes rolled back in her head, her hands pressed tightly over her chest and stomach, and she was gasping for air.
"Kenzi!" Dyson slammed on the brakes and threw the SUV in park. He and Hale leapt out of the vehicle and jerked the doors of the backseat open. Her whole body stopped moving and her arms fell.
"Kenzi! Kenzi!" Dyson grabbed her arms and pulled her out of the backseat, he laid her down on the grass next to the SUV and he dropped down. Hale was right next to him. Kenzi's eyes shot open and they had returned to the eerie white color. No more ice blue, plain white. Hale made a small noise and stepped back.
"Fitzpatrick McCorrigan is in danger." The words were an echo, something so strange and nonhuman. Dyson stared down at her and her white eyes flashed back to their normal color. Kenzi sucked in, filling her lungs with air, and then she coughed.
"Easy, easy." Dyson put his hands on her, keeping her down on the ground.
"It's Trick, Trick's in trouble." Kenzi gasped out the words. Dyson wrapped an arm around her back as he lifted her up.
"What?" he asked quickly, he didn't realize that she was aware of what had just happened.
"I saw Trick. I saw him and he's in trouble." She said quickly.
"Ok, calm down, where did you see him?" Hale asked.
"In my head, I don't know, I don't know, he was just up there and I saw him." Kenzi waved her hand and Dyson noticed her skin was at least three shades paler.
"Where was Trick? Where did you see him? Location." Hale said.
"I'm going to be sick." she turned away from the pair and retched loudly, spilling the contents of her stomach into the grass below. Dyson immediately grabbed her hair and kept it out of the vomit. He'd encountered several girls that had trouble handling their liquor, he knew what to do about throwing up, but he didn't know what to do about Kenzi. She was ill, something was obviously going on inside her, and him sucking out her energy hadn't helped in the least little bit. Dyson rubbed her back and looked up at Hale.
"What is going on?" Hale asked almost silently.
"I wish I knew." Dyson said.
"A river, tan bridge, um…rocks, sharp pointed rocks. At least six goblins, that's all I could count." Kenzi was trying to catch her breath in between the words.
"River…tan bridge." Hale said slowly.
"The bridge that's nearly torn down, back in the woods on Firry Road. There are really big sharp rocks on the bank." Hale's words spewed out.
"Kenzi did you see Trick with the goblins?" Dyson asked. She turned away from the throw up and nodded.
"Yes, he and the goblins were together. He looked a little hurt." Kenzi said.
"Let's go!" Hale shouted. Dyson hauled Kenzi up by her arms. She was still catching her breath, and he was worried about her, but they needed to find Trick first.
"We'll get you something for your stomach as soon as we get to Trick ok?" Dyson asked.
"I'm fine, I promise." Kenzi said.
"You've got to quit lying to me." Dyson grinned as Kenzi climbed into the backseat.
"Why, do you suddenly care about my lies?" Kenzi teased him. He chuckled and climbed in the front seat. Dyson was glad Kenzi was around. Despite the situation, she could always make the ragtag group smile and laugh.
"Do you know how to get to the road?" Dyson asked Hale.
"Sure do." Hale slammed his foot down on the gas and sped off toward the location. Dyson stole a glance in the review mirror at Kenzi. She looked absolutely exhausted. He was sure she had barely rested since their encounter. And since their encounter, she'd been possessed by some spirit, she'd hit a goblin with a chair then proceeded to be choked by said goblin, then she'd had a vision, and throw up everything in her stomach. He knew if she didn't get some rest soon then she would pass slap out. Maybe that's what she needed though, he was starting to think that the only way Kenzi would rest is if she was forced to do so.
