Chapter 12
Kenzi ran into the Dal, dragging Trick along with her. They made it into the bar and Kenzi helped Trick onto a stool.
"Are you ok?" Kenzi asked quickly. He waved his hand and tried to catch his breath.
"I'm fine…I'm fine. Not bleeding, everything is ok. I need you to do something quickly." Trick said. The words were spread out, like he was trying to breathe through them.
"Anything." Kenzi said.
"Go down to the basement, in my safe there are five vials of purple powder, get them and bring them back quickly." he said. Kenzi nodded and ran down the staircase as fast as possible. She ducked into the safe and looked around frantically. Her heart was pounding, she couldn't catch her breath, she was terrified for Dyson and Hale. There were too many of those things. There was no way they were going to make it out ok. She needed to have faith though, she had to believe everything was going to be ok. She had to be strong, she'd always been strong and now was not the time to let go of her strength. She let out a small yelp of excitement when she spotted the vials. Her hands wrapped around them and she rushed back upstairs.
"Kenzi this part is important. Take a vial and break it by each door and window. There are three doors that come into the Dal and two windows. The doors are the front door, back door where the suppliers come in, and door in the side where the Fae seeking protection enter. The windows are there and there." he said pointing.
"Ok, got it." she didn't ask questions, she just ran to the front door, her hand trembled as she threw the vial down. It broke and a flash of white light nearly blinded her as the purple powder arranged itself in a line at the threshold. Kenzi followed Trick's orders and smashed a vial at each entrance and window. When she got back to Trick he had caught his breath and he was nodding.
"Good job." He said.
"What does that stuff do?" Kenzi asked.
"Anything or anyone with intent to harm the Dal or its occupants cannot enter." Trick said.
"That's good." Kenzi nodded.
"You've got a nasty cut on you lip." Trick said.
"Let me get the first aid kit." He slipped off the stool and went behind the bar. Kenzi finally took a second to assess the damage. Her energy was just starting to return a bit, she could thank the adrenaline for that though. But now that it was wearing off, she was just as tired as she was before. She still had the same aches and pains, but now she had acquired two new aches. Her shoulders and back hurt from where she had slammed against the SUV, and her jaw hurt really bad from the punch that she took. But she could barely focus on herself for a few moments, because despite telling herself to be calm and have faith, it was easier said than done. She was worried, everything inside her was worried and all she wanted was Dyson and Hale standing in front of her, safe behind the doors of the Dal with she and Trick. She wanted to know what the kiss was about, she wanted to kiss him again. Who did that? Just randomly kissing someone like that. She was all around confused and taken aback. Why wouldn't she want to kiss Dyson? He was gorgeous and kind, and so loyal and protective of her. She liked him, she loved him as a friend. But he'd always been Bo's and she'd never been able to go there with him. But he had kissed her, not the other way around. She hadn't even been thinking about a kiss in the moment. He'd made that move, he had kissed her. It was a difficult thing to wrap her mind around. Hard to process in all aspects.
"Here we go." Trick said sitting the kit down on the counter.
"Let me see." He opened it up and pulled out some alcohol swabs. Kenzi leaned forward so that he could get to her lip. He carefully wiped at the cut and gently held her chin.
"How did you all know where I was?" he asked, gently wiping the cut.
"It um…just kind of hit me." she said slowly, she knew Trick would think something was going on with her, and honestly, she hoped for a solution, she had no clue what was happening with her.
"What do you mean it hit you?" he asked. He finished her lip and started packing up the kit.
"It's hard to explain. Dyson and I had just gotten Hale and we were riding in the SUV and my head started buzzing, like there were bees flying around inside it. Then all these pictures started flashing like one of those books you draw a picture on each page and then flip it and the picture dances or some shit like that. Then I couldn't see anything and my heart pounded painfully and I couldn't breathe and I just felt like I was going to throw up everywhere. But when I focused and closed my mind off to the buzzing noise and the pain in my chest, I could see the pictures clearly, it was hard to focus at first, but when I saw it I saw it clearly, I saw you and then more pictures flashed by, pictures of landscape and then the goblins."
"Like a vision?" Trick asked, he was staring at her like she'd just told him her head was falling off. She didn't like that look. She shrugged.
"And it just hit you, no warning, no tell, just slammed into you?" he asked. Kenzi nodded and eased herself down onto a bar stool. She gave a slight wince which didn't go unnoticed.
"Kenzi have you have any sort of dealings with anything supernatural recently?" he asked.
"Kind of a vague question there Trickster. I have dealings with supernatural things on a daily basis. I mean all of my friends are Fae after all. Plus I'm in here like everyday drinking whatever it is that you serve me. Which as far as I know, could be supernatural itself." She said. He chuckled and nodded.
"Yeah ok, point taken. But I mean dealings such as something supernatural harming you, hurting you physically in anyway, like the way Inari did." He asked. Kenzi opened her mouth to speak and then snapped it shut. She'd been hurt twice today by something supernatural, once when Duchess had stabbed her, and a second time when Dyson had bitten her and taken things from her in order to heal. But if she told Trick either story she would be in trouble, not to mention both stories intertwined, so if she told one, she would have to tell the other, and Trick would most definitely not approve of any sort of relations that she and Dyson had. She wasn't even sure he would approve even if it had saved Dyson's life, and in return saved his own life.
"Um…I mean." She sort of stumbled across the words, not wanting to come out with it at all, but at the same time she wanted to know what was happening to her.
"Yeah, Dyson and I-" something slammed hard and heavy into the front door. Kenzi jumped off the bar stool and faced the door. Trick came to stand in front of her.
"What the hell was that?" she asked.
"I don't know…" Trick stared ahead. The loud rumble echoed again, something was banging on the front door. Kenzi's heart was pounding, she didn't know what to do, could they get in? Was Trick's magic powerful enough to keep them out? But what if it wasn't goblins?
"Dyson! Hale!" Kenzi shoved around Trick and ran for the door. Trick's hand latched onto her wrist catching her, she jerked hard and glared. She wasn't thinking clearly, she stopped pulling and fighting, so Trick let her go. Just as Kenzi opened her mouth to say something, the front door blew open and slammed into the wall with such force that it splintered apart.
